Series Summary:
Game 1: VAN 5-4 Instant Classic w/Cooper as Lindholm, Zadorov, Miller, and Garland score late. Silovs gets the win as he saves 14 of 18. Skinner takes the loss with 19 saves. EDM had a 4-1 lead.
Game 2: EDM 4-3 (OT) McDavid gets his second of the playoffs at 5:37 of the third and Bouchard scores about the same marker in overtime with a shot through traffic as called by Alec from Bouchard. Pettersson gets on the scoresheet for the first time and Zadorov already with his fourth goal of the playoffs with a nasty wrister. Skinner gets the win stopping just 16 of 19. Silovs takes the loss stopping 27 of 31.
Game 3: VAN 4-3 Ekholm, Draisaitl and Bouchard score for EDM. Last goal for the Oilers came from Bouchard again in the final moments. Of note, Silovs dominant with a 42 of 45 save performance. VAN ends up with just 18 SOG and still wins. Skinner once again shaky and this time pulled for good. Takes the loss stopping 11 of 15 shots. Calvin Pickard comes in for the first time and stops all three shots in the third period. Boeser and Lindholm both score twice to get the win for the Canucks.
Game 4: EDM 3-2 Bouchard again with a late goal for the GWG this time. 39 seconds left after Joshua ties it. Draisaitl (PPG), R-N-H also scores. Garland gets his second of the playoffs. Pickard plays a full game and gets the win as he stops 19 of 21. Silovs takes the loss as he stops 27 of 30. I think EDM can role with Pickard for this series and get a spot in the WCF, but is he going to have a Hill-like performance as VGK did last season. I don’t think that is possible. Again, this is the fourth-straight one-goal game in this unbelievable series. VAN needs more shots though. Calvin Pickard (32) appeared for the first time in Game 3. And is 1-0 in two playoff games with a 1.57 GAA, 917 SV. Is a career 2.90+ with a .900+ tonight will be his 140th game. 47-61-11.
Game 5: VAN W 3-2: Powerplays EDM 0-for-5; VAN 0-for-4 McDavid 1 SOG Silovs 21 of 23 in the victory. Pickard 32 of 35 in the loss. Kane scores on Draisaitl setup. Janmark from Brown on a 2-on-1. But Soucy., Di Giuseppe and Miller with the heroics with 30 seconds left win the game for VAN. What a play for Pettersson.
Game 6: EDM W 5-1. First non-one-goal game and lopsided score for either team. Skinner has an easy time in his return to the net as he only has to save 14 of 15 in the win. Silovs 22 of 27 in the loss. Holloway, Hyman, Bouchard, R-N-H and Kane all score. McDavid 3 ASTS.
Game 7: Tocchet says Demko is still recovering. No Boeser with a blood-clotting issue. Is this the end for VAN hopes? Alec joins me for the conclusion and right to face DAL.
