The super creepy secret invasion ads that were infesting every book was a nice touch. Not sure if that was a Bendis idea or marketing. But that is how you sell a comic event. There was no way that I wasn't going to pick it up after seeing two or three of those unnerving ads.

that was one of the small parts I liked about Captain Marvel. It set up some factions and individuals amongst the Skrulls that weren't bad. I'm sure there's plenty of bad skrulls based on the trailer i saw from the show/mini series.
New Avengers - Civil War - Secret Invasion - Siege was such a fun period in marvel comics. I also grew up with it 😂
I think the secret invasion comic was actually pretty mediocre. The best version of this storyline imo was the arc in the cartoon Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes
Exactly. We had just come off of legitimately epic invasion stories like the Kang Dynasty five years before, and then we get Secret Invasion, an “epic” that felt like a highly decompressed three issue story.

I love you guys talking about other movies too. You all bring interesting perspectives that I find really helpful when deciding what to watch read or play and in what order. I’d say throw it in a few episodes and see hit the feed back goes and make it longer or shorter or maybe even it’s own if it does well enough.

Crackpot conspiracy theory: this Secret Invasion show *is* the secret invasion buildup - it's *not* wrapped up by the end of the 6 episodes and instead Fury gets captured, leading to an entire phase 5 being the actual invasion. They could replace the Kang Dynasty movie with an actual Secret Invasion movie at the end.
I don't understand not liking Hank Pym solely because he hit Jen... I'm pretty sure that he, Tony and Reed were basically war criminals in the garbage event that was Civil War...

Where's that Mario bros. review? I personally thought it was fun. Definitely aimed at a younger audience but enough there in Easter eggs and gags for adults who grew up with the franchise will also enjoy
Brother I've been saying this the whole time. In the books, each new thing set up the next was so great. Civil War, the Initiative, Secret Invasion, Dark Avengers I mean wow. The MCU version is all out of order and weird.

The Mario movie was probably the best movie out this week. It was fine adaptation of the material.
It was fun, but the story was pretty much non-existent. And considering a movie is a medium of storytelling, it lacked exactly that. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun love letter, so to speak. But wish they could have come up with a great story.
I thought that skrulls were tied to FOX so they weren't able to use them before Captain Marvel and that is basically endgame
This is one of the few times I’ve seen EVERYBODY say fuck Rotten Tomatoes. It’s always a thing where people say you can’t trust them, and blah blah blah, it’s usually for a more divisive movie. But I haven’t heard a single person say that RT rating was earned on Mario. It was a cute fun movie, that was way more faithful than I think anyone thought it would be
It's cool that they seeded it for years before hand, but I felt like the actual Secret Invasion comic story kinda whiffed it (well it's just kinda ok iirc; been centuries since I read it and well I felt that way about a bumch events so idk).
Now for they show, it kinda risks being another "Hydra = SHIELD" reveal and feels like something that really should have been built towards instead of some isolated thing they plucked and slapped a recognisable name on.

also you have the idea, which skrulls are part of the invasion as part of malicous parts of the invasion to take over and which are there to fill in for some character that might've been taken out somehow becasue they died or something else and they decided to just fill in becasue that person was important or something...I don't know I'm spitballing.

Not gonna lie, Brie Larson has the look for Samus...but after seeing her as Capt. Marvel...not so sure, the script and the direction has to be good.
Benny while the idea of having EVERYTHING be built through numerous movies is a good idea, it doesn't work for movies. It takes too long and people age and cost too much and etc etc of issues to have every single event have 5-7 movie connecting everything. I would love everything to connect to a bunch of stories in movies but the medium just won't allow it in Hollywood.

The secret invasion comic i thought had so much potential to be amazing but man oh man the execution in the main book was just bad and very disappointing at least in my opinion.

I think the closest we could get at this point to a Black Widow movie, might be one with her sister that's some kind of a non-Thunderbolts movie. Not sure what they could do plot-wise. There's no way they'll get Scar-Jo back now, due to anything with her people would not care due to her character dying in Endgame. Also maybe by now she has a really high asking price to be in the MCU again much like Robert Downey Jr. So if there would be a chance to bring her back, they'd probably have to save that appearance for a REALLY specific cameo. With that possible place being in Secret Wars or something. Other than that, maybe they could make one of those What If? style animated movies that shows whatever happened in Budapest. I doubt they'll do that last idea, but I just thought it'd be an interesting approach to just throw out into the atmosphere. I'm not sure if Marvel had the best track record with their animated films, from what I recall, DC dominated on those straight to DVD animated one-shot isolated movies. The last I recall Marvel making those were in the Pre-MCU days at Paramount I think with that series and they had those Ultimates movies.
Would it be a good idea for Marvel to consider making one-shots stories in animated form as a side thing from The MCU as a way of tackling stories and character bits they either didn't have time for or didn't have the budget to do when they originally made the MCU? As kind of some kind of way to fill in some character gaps and fix up some issues a lot of people had issues with. Like kind of what Dave Filloni did with The Clone Wars. Could that be a fun side thing? or would that be way too expensive? (or would it be fun but too expensive to pull off considering the time and budget animation needs to come into fruition)
That recent Secret Invasion mini wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever read, but it felt (as you might expect) INCREDIBLY pointless. It’s kind of a fun skrull story about Maria Hill but the title is an absolute cash grab. It’s not a real secret invasion, not even close

I read that one. I thought it was a decent tight book. Not anything crazy epic or anything. But I just liked the smallness of it. Had a good time.
I think the way I heard about this series months ago was back when there was speculation about who Emilia Clarke was playing in the show. The article described her a well known skrull character, never heard of her. Looked her up, saw that she was in this mini-series called Meet The Skrulls from 2019 that talked about this Skrull family that was living undercover. I liked the family and their set up, I think the last I saw of that particular Skrull family crew was to this prelude for this mini-event from a little bit later called Empyre. I think that involved these plant races of people that created The Celestial Madonna and turned the Swordsman into a plant guy and he and Mantis had some plant hybrid kid. And now he's come back years later to take over Earth with an alliance with The Skrulls. It's been a while. I might be missing things.
anyway...I think there was an article that I thought was about the show, but it turned out it was about the mini-series. Based on things I've kind of learned over the years as this being a thing that Marvel does at times, by that I mean make a few changes or release a book that loosely relates to the show or thing they want people to see coming up next as some kind of a prep thing. So I went in knowing that. for what it was, I thought it was ok as its own little mini story thing due to just having had a hard time with big event books in the past. I thought it was nice to read something with characters that I knew and was a little bit on the smaller scale and all that.
The incredulous levels of apathy on display here from people who unknown are die hard comic fans tells me everything I need to know about how comics are going currently.
The most disappointing part of the Mario brothers movie 2023 was that we didn’t get a post credit scene, teasing a sequel!

based on a lot of the Easter Eggs I saw in that movie, I think they have the right amount of components and characters to show up for their own movies if Illumination and Nintendo are smart. Yes on The Smash Bros set up and the whole big crossover movie. Also i think this could potentially blow Endgame out of the water not only due to source material stuff, but also due to its rating. Endgame was PG-13 and most of the main Marvel movies kind of play it safe as far as deviating from source material to appeal to wide possible audience and all that for most money back. But I think if Mario is any indication, they'll be sticking to a PG film rating. And that will probably have more kids and their parents along with the legacy fans of the games to come see that movie. Hopefully if they play their cards right, they could be pretty big...at least I think that's what could happen on paper.
I love the Clue movie. Also having seem the Mario movie, I really enjoyed it. Metroid movie would be awesome.
