    With all the publicity you have given Highfield over the years one would think;
    1. The President of Highfield would be personally managing this, and
    2. Delivery dude would be swapped out for someone with a personality and some customer service.

    "I don't know what was wrong.....I was just told to deliver it". I've launched and retrieved dozens and dozens of trailered boats. When launching, the winch line comes off, AFTER the boat is running, and you don't bump it to get it onto the trailer. Someone might get their feet wet, but you attach the winch line to hold it in place, then winch it in place. Let the dinghy delivery guy stay back at the shop, and wash boats.

    On camera Keith has more patience than I would expect in person regarding the dingy. Personally, I’ve been in his position with a brand new long range trawler. I’m a nice guy but there is only so much you can put up with in an industry where you pay thru the nose for everything from a simple nut and bolt all the way up to the build of your boat. Keith you’re a saint!

    I had the same problems with my new highfield. 2023 Highfield with a 30hp Mercury.
    Took it back to the dealer 4 times , each time they said the problem was solved.
    It was solved until I got her up on plane for a long run, then the primer bulb would collapse and I would have to keep priming it just to get a short distance and I would die again.
    Took them forever to take my advice and replace the whole fuel system.
    They first said it was the fuel line under the floor. Then they said it was a bad primer bulb. Then it was a bad vent cap on the tank. Then they had no idea what the issue was.
    My guess even though I’m just the guy who had to be towed in 10 times on a brand new $25,000 dinghy was that they jam the fuel tank in the bow seat. The fuel line fitting is a straight fitting on the tank. I asked them to change the fitting to a 90degree fitting and bam! Problem solved.
    Not enough room for the straight fitting in that compartment. The fuel line was choking off the fuel because it was bent so much to make the turn from the tank to under the floor.

    The one thing owners must take into account when replacing engines is the dissimilar engine swap out is that things won't line up as easy as a one-for-one swap to the same engine model/type. You went with a whole new manufacturer, a virtual guarantee nothing will line up. Looks like Just Catamarans served you well, though.

    Everything is easier on paper, timing is always perfect in a plan and the learning curve is always there no matter how much training a person has had, doing the job in real life circumstances is the final teacher and we all have to learn ! I know it’s been a long, hot, boring, expensive road but you have gotten A LOT done and the sacrifice will be worth it ! Thanks for being patient with employees as they learn new skills, the stress and pressure on them has to be enormous !
    I remember as a new nurse putting an NG tube in my first patient and not a dummy in lab, I was terrified but couldn’t let the patient know my fear. I also remember training, guiding and assisting new nurses on their first time !!!! We all need to have patience, understanding and grace for each other all while making sure the learning process is happening and the job is getting done correctly and safely ! I was nervous watching those guys string those motors over the water, over the boat and into a hole, hoping those rigging lines were strong and placed correctly, that was some skill !!!
    Kudos to the hard working boat workers for jobs well done !!!
    If there is one thing I’ve learned in my 57 yrs, it’s that EVERYTHING takes longer than expected, will cost more than expected and there will be complications…… I’ve just come to expect it and my response when it happens is, “of course” 😊
    Y’all are all headed in different directions and one thing that rips my heart out is goodbye. Safe travels ❤
    CONGRATULATIONS TO ANNA 🎉

      I'm sorry but what are you talking about? This is a professional boatyard and Yanmar dealer. I was a yacht broker for a while and watched many projects like this get done. if you are an amateur doing your first install, ya the above is true. But if you are a TRAINED Yanmar dealer and installer? This is an embarrassment of nonstop screwups. Every single issue they encountered was foreseeable, easily. Perhaps I could excuse the prop adjustment, given the variables. But the rest? Terrible. It's a production boat. The dimensions of the engine room and mounts are known. I should also add that this kind of work costs a mint. You are paying top dollar for everything when you are a yacht owner. You should expect high quality work, done completely and correctly the first time or else why the heck are you hiring a pro to begin with?
      We seem to live in a culture where noting poor service is bad form. Not sure how you guys got there but I'm not there with you. And of course, Cap'n can't be getting into conflicts while the repairs are underway. If he does, he might find, as many boatyards do, that his job gets delayed. So Keith isn't going to make a mess. I also don't know what his 'deal' is with the yard. Perhaps he got a great deal and its not in his interest to complain. But in the end, this job was screwed up to a fare thee well from start to finish - by professionals who get paid a premium cuz they are supposed to know better. Where am I wrong?

      Yeah, that's BS. If you know what you're doing, and have a process, you should be able to deliver on time and on budget. I do kitchen remodeling work. Every job is different, but we still give homeowners a SET price and timeline. If there are unknowns, we identify them up front. We rarely miss our deadlines, and we NEVER charge more. To be fair, a lot of people add extra work which adds to the cost and timing, but it's in addition to the original scope of work. We've done over 100 kitchens - we should now what we're doing. I bet Just Cats has done WAY more engine swaps than that - they should know what they're doing.

    We had a problem with our “new” dinghy outboard dying unexpectedly. Turned out the squeeze bulb (primer bulb) had failed. It was blocking fuel flow, unless you were actively squeezing. Sometimes a new one is defective. And they don’t last forever. So replace that primer bulb to eliminate that risk.

    Here's the difference between learning from the beginning and needing the hours to get a journeyman certificate and already having some work experience. I did a pre-employment electrical course, prior to starting I had already been shown how to strip a wire but had never done it myself, I could use a drill and screwdrivers and know what things were called. Others in the class had never is touched any of this stuff, and another person had worked as a general labour and had been running some wire, but couldn't get the hours to count as he was registered as an apprenticeship with the company. When it came to practical applications we were at various different speeds because we have different levels of experience. So when your working on a project and you quote how long it would take the journeyman to do the job, but now you have a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year apprentice that needs the hours. It becomes a fine balance between staying on time and not training employees. It's the same thing in the oilfield, Keith knows there are apprentices in all trades. He's just saying that this company hasn't changed him for the extra time it takes to teach those apprentices or if a mistake is made by anyone then they aren't being charged for the time to fix it.

    Wow Keith! Was literally in that situation to get down south in 2021. Same dates almost. We didn’t make it but a hurricane didn’t come through so unscathed. Made it to USVI. Beating SUCKS! North Shore Dominican is pretty fun.

    If that engine cut out on me for a second time - while with my family - while in the dark - I would have *_DEMANDED_* a new dinghy too. I'm sure Renee' edited out the conversation Keith had with the retailer - because of the "family nature" of the channel.

    I must say that Keith has, or seems to have, a very high frustration bar. I would have given the dingy builders the one chance to fix the fuel problem and when it happened again with the "repaired" dingy, I would have been...let's just say, VERY much more vocal in my disappointment.
    I'm sure that the "new" dingy will be problem-free free or I'd have them sail out to where your destination is going to be to bring me a new one and take the old one.

    When it comes to the number of episodes, compared to two major TV shows of 1980s, Zatara has now surpassed Dynasty (222 episodes) and is on its way to catch Dallas (357 episodes).

    • @PeterPonomarenko
      @PeterPonomarenko Před 26 dny

      @@SailingZatara Well, the answer to everything is 42, so it must have been Agent Forty-Two. If we do some digging, we'll find that the chemical element with atomic number 42 is Molybdenum which helps digest alcohol. So, whoever drank the most must have been Agent Forty-Two and thus the killer. Since it's clear as day that the person who consumed most alcohol was JR himself, we can only conclude it was an ordered suicide (he had hired a hitman to come and kill him).

    Try taking an idea to production and you will get an idea of how difficult it is to build stuff. This engine swap-out is a total custom job and not standard; that in itself is a list of unknowns. Hats off to Keith; he won't regret the Yanmars.

    I can imagine the cost of those two new engines. Man. Obviously you guys have done well. :P NOTE: I had a new Honda BF 5 H.P. that did exactly that type of thing. On a simple Jon boat in a lake. I gave up on it after it left me stranded a few times while fishing. What a paddle. I feel the pain.

    Keith, It sure looks like the waterline is nearly over the engine on the dingy. Is the boat suppose to ride so low in the back? Love these modification videos because I love efficiency and practicality. Looking forward to Zatara's next aventure!
