Hey data nerds 👋, in this video I'm talking about my online bachelors in Computer Science degree. I'm happy to finally put this video out because many of you are curious about it. And, if the recession is indeed coming, what's the better way to prepare for the future than going back to school to study something useful 😉🤓. I'll be going over an overview of the program, the duration and time commitment. Then I'll drill down into the curriculum of each year and give you an overview of the main topics I learned in the modules. I realized it was very hard to cover everything, but hope this video gives you an insider look into the program and see if it fits your needs.
Thank you for watching and have a great day! 🤗

Thank you for this! This is super helpful.
Thanks very much for sharing. Very inspirational 👏
Congrats Thu for your accomplishment. Cheering you on to your future endeavors.
Thank you so much!! I'll do my best 😅🙌🏽
Hi Thu Vu, thank you for making this video! I was contemplating whether or not to take up this Degree as there was quite a few bad reviews (especially on reddit). Your review helps a lot in making my final decision. Thank you again and all the best for your final project!! 🙆🏻♀
Thank you so much! Good luck to you too 🍀☺️
Great content as always. Your presentations are well thought through
I love listening to you talk. Thanks for the video.
Aw thank you, my pleasure! ☺️
Really interesting to hear all this! I have looked into studying and working full time, but have not committed to it yet. It's not so much the cost, but the time, and deciding the real reasons why I think I want a Masters degree. There's also a matter of which institution has a better reputation within the industry - In my industry (not "iT" related), for the same qualification it seems like some institutions cater to people in management who need to tick a box to get promoted, and others are aimed at people with, or looking at a technical career.
Indeed, I also see the time as the real cost behind all this commitment. Sometimes in the weekends staying up late to meet the courses' deadlines, I bitterly realized it was a huge investment giving up relaxation time and bits of social life 😅. And agreed with you about the "ticking the box" syndrome at several workplaces. Companies might end up hiring someone who's got the "right" degree but not capable of doing the actual work.. That's very sad.
@@Thuvu5the masters in CS would be the same curriculum as the bachelor's just at a faster pace?
Web development , Data Science, AI is my career dream, so if I have the opportunity I will just do Computer Science for master, already have Bsc in IT .
Thank you so much, you an inspiration.
Thanks so much for the review. I think I’d opt for a second master’s if and when the time comes 😊
Thank you so much Thu Vu for the insights
Amazing thanks for this information!
Great Video as usual Thu, Wish you all the best
Great choice! And weekend video!!!! Bravo 🔥🔥🔥🔥

such a hard worker! congratulations.
It’s been a ride all for my degree and seeing this tutorial makes me feel even more relieved because I’m now sure Stray Administration got me right🙂, I now have a good degree certificate and blissful job..
All I had to do was hit the CZcams search icon and type in Stray Stray Administration, his channel popped right after…
Thank you so much for doing this, I was on the fence on whether to enroll or not, now I'm sure, I will definately enroll.
hi how has ur exp been for you? i have heard both negativee and positive reviews from students. how did it go?
Great information. Many of my SQL Continuing Education students will find this information useful.
Thanks for the informative video.

Great video, thank you for sharing your experience! Are exams done online or at local examination centers?
Thanks for the review Thu
It is very interesting the fact we can study a whole BSc from some of the best universities from our homes.
Moreover, it seems pretty compatible with a full-time job from what you say in the video.

Thank you for this! I am gearing up to take another bachelor's in CS to learn the foundations and eventually shift into IT project management/IT Business Analysis! More power to your channel 🥰
Hey Raven, that's great to hear! 🙌 Hope you will have fun learning and soon shift into the IT analysis/ management roles 💪
As someone who’s a data analyst would you recommend this bachelors?
Thank you for making this, Iam currently in last semester. I am watching your videos from couple of weeks, just realised that you are my fellow student.😊

Thank you so much for the video! Was it difficult to maintain high GPA? I consider Masters as an option sometime in the future (which would require a high GPA). Do you think the degree is reputable enough for the employers, did the students struggle to find jobs after the completion of the degree? Thanks in advance!🙏
Thanks for all your videos!
I'm so glad you found them helpful! Thanks so much for your support 🤗
your English is so good. Well done for managing to do that with a full-time job as a data scientist! I'm doing a full-time degree currently while in full-time retail!
Aww thank you so much! All the best for your study and work 🍀
It really is a bold move, I wouldn't particularly do this, I am well with learning on my own pace and there is an overload of information on-line. I've studied engineering for my bachelors and sadly not much from the class was really absorbed and I learned better studying on my own, reinforcing my knowledge with online courses. I found that if I had the program of the course I could learn better on my own with a community that was willing to help me, when I got into my bachelors it was a terrible experience where I mostly learned how to demand what you paid for from the universities administration, as the overall desorganization left me in shambles, besides there was a rule that no teacher could give contact information and I spend weeks if not months tracking down teacher that would not commit to showing up to class, so much to even tracking down where some of them lived, what car they drove and some close relatives... I felt more specialized in investigation then engineering.
I have so much respect for people can self study with so much discipline. Thanks for sharing 🙌
good your video thank you for sharing
Thank you for sharing. What an incredible feat! Perhaps you could share some time management tips you used to complete this online degree some day
Thanks for the idea! I'll keep this in mind 😊
Very inspiring! The video is very informative and helpful! Thank you Thu for sharing your experience and information. I recently graduated with a Master’s degree in stats and DS, and I am going to start my full-time job in this Sept. Meanwhile, I am thinking of getting a CS degree. This bachelor's program seems to be an ideal one to combine with a full-time job. Thank you so much!
Oh what a feat! Congrats on your Masters degree and your new job 🎉🥳. Yeah I think a CS degree like this down the line could be fun to do! I did have to work part time (90%) in my second year tho, just to get enough rest and down time 😅. I’d highly recommend taking some parttime or more holiday if money is not a problem

Thu, loved the perspective you shared on why you chose going for a Bachelor's over a Master's... I'll be honest, I've never really thought of it this way and your content shows that you've obviously learned a lot from the Bachelor's alone! 🙌🏼
Hey Luke, indeed I also didn’t expect to learn so much, especially about the things I didn’t know I didn’t know, but I can imagine that a Masters would be much stronger on the research side of things. Thank you for watching and commenting, Luke! 🤗🤗
Thank you very much for sharing your experience! It is very useful to many people!
And is it a good idea to study this online program after school (as a first degree)?
Great video. It really sounds like a great program! Congrats on finishing it. It's not easy to do a BS degree while working full time! And did I see myself for a sec in your computer screen? ❤️❤️❤️

I wanted to aks you if you could please tell me wich book is the one you're using for statistics, the one that appears in your "Data Analysis: How Much STATISTICS Do You Need to Know?" video, I am trying to find a good one to start learning but there are tons of books out there, it'd also be great if you could do a video talking about the books you used for your degree and for Data Science as well!

Aw thank you so much for such kind words! I truly appreciate it! I believe I added the links to the Math books in that video's description, so if you scroll down you can see them. Request you to make a video on how to get better at data scraping and possibly share some ideas on Medium ??
Hi Thu Vu, thank you for sharing this.
My background is in Accounting, Tax and, more recently, Econometrics. I am preparing for an MBA in Business Analytics at MIT in 2024 (Data Science). I follow the Tim Ferris 3 book rule and search for the 1% of top thought leaders books. I have the two books you recommend for Data Visualization but need the 3rd one, " How to create effective charts and diagrams". I have googled, ducked and cannot find this book anywhere, even Microsoft Education. Please help if you can.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hello, first of all, I find your video very interesting. Thank you for taking the time to do a great job.
I have a question which is the following: How many courses did you take per semester?
In other words, for between 20 and 30 hours a week, how many courses can you take without being too stressed?
Thank you in advance.
This was a very interesting video so I've liked and subscribed. I'm also doing the UoL CS degree on Coursera, actually finishing first year now. I hope to watch some more of your content and all the best with your career too!

Hey,
Thanks for your effort!
Had you been thinking back then to take more than 1 specialization? Do you reckon it is doable? AI and physical computing, for example, would make a very solid toolbox up.
Regards, Jan.
Hey Jan, yeah if you want to spend more time at school, that's totally doable ;). I'm in that state of considering that as well.. or not having any specialization at all and you just pick whatever you like. I'm not sure if someone can have more than 1 specialization though, at least on the degree paper.
Hi! VU alumnae as well here. Thanks for the video.
Hi , first of all, I love your videos and have subscribed to you for very long on my other account, and here too. Could u please tell me what the entry requirements are for the Bsc computer science at the UOL because I'm trying to take admission in it.

Yeah.. it's a hard decision. Thank you for tuning in, Chrystle! :)
Can we just take a moment and applause this lady for her video graphics and designs. It's top notch.
Currently offering IBM DevOps and Software engineering program with Coursera. It's been an awesome journey so far. But i'm about to get my first BSc degree in Medical Science.
I wish to work in tech but I'm afraid i would be under listed by potential employers by not Havin a degree in Computer Science. Is having a BSc in Computer Science from UOL/GOLDSMITH a good choice for me?. Like starting right now.
That means I'd be studying for Med Science, Computer SCIENCE and IBM course module.
Thank you for this Clinton! I think you could consider taking a CS minor at your school instead of taking the whole degree from UoL? Good luck with your studies!!🍀

Hey this video was super informative. I Have a question tho....Currently I am studying business finance and have been attending coding workshops at my college since the past 6 months and sort of discovered my passion for computer science. I was looking for Dual Degree options in computer science and came across this. I would like to take my career forward by also completing a masters in computer science after this degree. Will I be eligible to apply for an Offline Computer Science Masters after completing this degree? I would qualify for the requirements as this course provides all the necessary knowledge(D&A, Discrete mathematics.....). Its Online tho and thats why I have concerns.
Do you know if the statistics part for data science/ai gets good coverage and gives you some solid foundation?
It might be a little late for the videos, btw appreciate your work, very informative. Otherwise, I have some questions about the course:
1. How about when you've struggled with your work, are there any direct support from professors?
2. About the interaction of the platform, I wondered if it were the same as Udemy or other online-learning platforms, how is the interaction between the learners and teachers, between learners.
Does udemy have support from the professors/teachers? Ability to get help on assignments?
Great video! I am also considering this route but was wondering if you have gotten the diploma? As far as you know who is the institution name that issues the diploma: Goldsmith? Uni of London? Or Uni of London international?
Thank you

Awesome! Good luck Samuel 🍀🙌
hey bro, have you started it yet?
Hi, thanks for you the video. Very informative! I wanted to know, are the lectures live with a chance to ask the lecturer questions?
Hi Bilal, most lectures have live webinar around midterm and/or end term to deep dive into some topics or to help prepare for exams
Hi Chi! what a great and insightful content indeed. I was just curious if there would be any differences in Bsc certificate for those who done it via online and direct (local). Thank you🙏🏻

Hello, thanks for the video and all the knowledge shared. I have a question regarding teamwork and getting to know your teammates. Did you do group work? Were there video call meetings to do the projects? Or was everything presented individually?
I have a good experience as a Bootcamp graduate doing team coding projects and I would like to study for a bachelor's degree in Computer Science in the near future. I would like to know if that component of teamwork, asking your peers and working with them on projects was part of your experience in the University of London degree program? Thank you!
Hi Valeria, yes you do have teamwork in some modules. Some of the project assignments are group assignments. We mostly use Slack for communication and chatting with team members. If they live nearby you can meet up in person too of course
Hey was the bootcamp more focused on projects rather than learning the material and how much instructor support was there? I think both has their pros and cons.
Do they include an interview when applying to the university?
hello, thank you for the very informative video I am actually doing the course you did right now.May I ask what did you specialize in the 3rd year? I am also looking to get into data analytics myself any tips to land my first job after I graduate?

I took a crazier decision. I took a Data Science degree offered by Open University. I'm 50
How are you finding the course quality?
@@mm1234bb The quality of the material and tutorials is good. The course is heavy on Math and statistics heavy. That's good as that's what the fundamentals are about.
Applications like tableau and theory behind visualisation are missing. However these can be learned separately.

Is it possible to study with books instead of by lectures?
Are there live lectures on calculus? I barely know algebra and geometry. Do you think I can pass the calculus class?
Now that's interesting. Iam also a computer science student but your first year syllabus is the one Iam studying for my final year 🥺
Haha that’s indeed interesting 😅
since u mentioned apis, some apis even have not working code examples or like youtube they tell you you can make a request without using oauth and use an api key instead but there is no explaination how to do so and no code eample for only api keys or they call the same things by different names (yt explorer here and dashboard there) and sometimes things like the dashboard are linked when mentioned in the docu and sometimes they are not and you have to scroll back up or down... yt api documentary was a pandoras box for me, in the end i found everything i wanted to know on stackoverflow...

I'm 30 with an MBA in finance, just finnished the Google Data Analytics Certificate, and hunting for that job. I find project-based learning and free online self-learning the most beneficial, but I'm still considering the MS in CS option since it really bugs me everytime I see a job post requiring a degree in CS.
Hey Abdallah, yeah I can feel your pain.. 😅 Jobs requirements are so excessively demanding in this field. But you can't go wrong with the project-based learning and self-learning on the side. All the best! 🍀
@@Thuvu5 Yeah! Btw I've recently discovered your channel and it's my favorate on this subject so far! I share similar background and looking to move to the Netherlands as well 😅. All the best for you too! 🌻
@Abdallah Berro MS in CS after MBA, do you have a bg in CS or can one pursue CS without any bg at all?
What kind of jobs are you looking at that require a degree in CS? Finance, data analytics, data science?
Btw, her conclusion was spot on and is super relevant to you. Since you already have a bachelors, MBA, have done self-learning and got your own certificates, I don't know if it's really worth going back to school just to get a Computer Science degree on paper. I think as an employer, I would be more impressed if you learned what you needed to learn on your own online and applied what you learned by building your own software project. Of course there's a very high risk that you get lost while learning on your own.
Companies requiring a degree in CS are probably not worth working for, unless you are really interested in a niche area that requires a masters in CS.
@@abedberro You can pursue a Masters in Computer Science with no background or knowledge in Computer Science? So what's the difference between a Masters and a Bachelors in Computer Science then?
Hi, I'm planning to take the same degree. However, I have some doubts. I don't see any calculus, linear algebra, or statistics courses mentioned in the curriculum. I'm not sure how the system in the UK works, but since you’ve taken the degree, can you please tell me what courses are included in maths from this set: {algebra, Trig & Pre-calculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Linear algebra, Statistics & probability, geometry}? Please also include anything from the math courses that I missed.
Your response will be really appreciated!
Thank you!
hi, what is the fee payment like? it's not really clear onsite
1. are we required to pay all at once
2. if we choose pay as you go, do we have to pay a specific amount upfront?
Do you recommend I go with the online masters in CS now available on Coursera as there's no need to have a bachelor's or undergrad CS requirement for admission into the program?
It's never to late and it's okay to restart ❤ and I have question to ask do I need to give ielts exam before applying like I'm indian living in italy ...?!..
Agreed!! 🙌 I think they do need some proof of English efficiency. So either ielts or another degree you followed that was fully in English would work
Very helpful. Is the degree recognized in the USA? Thank you.
Do you have something similar but data science related?
Thanks :)
Will I receive a graduation certificate from the university upon completing my studies, similar to an on-campus student?
I am a doctor in Ireland, i am very passionate about AI and ML, however, sometimes i doubt if i will be able to learn such new concepts as my professional background is completely different. Could anyone please tell me is it realistic to pursue a career in AI and ML keeping in view my background as a medical doctor or ma i just dreaming? I would look forward to your valuable suggestions.
Thank you!
Is it possible to participate other more advance programs like master’s or phd with this degree?
Thanks a million
Some people just simply enjoy learning all the time even when they already have a financially rewarding career/job. It feels like some people have that “forever-student” syndrome. I admire your ability and will power to pursue another degree even though you don’t really need it, but that’s just me. I wish I didn’t do Biology as my BS and did something more engaging with programming and math :/
Curious to see where you end up in the next couple of years.
Thank you so much Yessi! The "forever-student" syndrome is exactly what I have 😂🤣. Biology sounds interesting as well! I believe you will find ways to combine it with programming & math 😎
Do i need to have other certificates to apply for bachelors ? And also i have another question do i need to pay for the cours or i have options for financial aid like other cours !
Hi really glad to hear about this program but I have a question about it. Is it the total cost pay upfront or you can pay monthly ? and for 3 years that is the total cost you need to do or is for semester?

Thanks!
I'm a graduate of IT and I'm from the Philippines. Will University of London credit the subjects that I've taken in IT?
HI, i am thinking of doing this degree and really intrigued by your good review. Since you said you did full time study with 4 modules per semester, how many hours on average you need to spend if doing fulltime across 1st, 2nd and 3rd year? Thanks. :)
Hey, I think it really depends on the modules (some are more demanding and have a lot of assignments) and how familiar you are with coding. For me it took about 10 hours/ week for full time semesters
Is the degree math intensive. I want a degree that covers the math behind + practical
Hi, one important question, what do you think about doing masters after doing bachelors in this program you mentioned? I mean, can someone land a scholarship for masters (let's say in another university in another country) if they do well in this program. I mean, there are more criteria for being eligible for a masters program, however, what I am asking is that is this course considered to be "Valid/Eligible" by other universities for Bachelors for them to consider someone who studied in this program eligible for further studies?
Thanks for sharing! I am looking into doing this exam same bachelor degree and I also live in the Netherlands, how many hours a week did you work during the degree? i understood you went onto reducing from 40 hours a week to 32 is that right? :)
That’s correct 😉
Hi, i was wondering i could could study this while living in Australia? i saw the website had local location for extra support, but it didn't have Australia so i kinda got worried! Is the final exams for each year in person, or online??
Thanks for the help if you can! loved the video
Hey, since the COVID all exams are done online! But I think you’d better confirm this with the program manager of the study if this will still hold in the future. Good luck!🍀
