If Dialga and Palkia represent time and space, maybe Giratina represents the absence of those things, you could say Giratina represents the afterlife, or the void that exists outside of our own dimension.

    • @number3766
      @number3766 Před rokem +20

Gary was intended to symbolize anti-matter, but acts more like gravity in it's distortion and regulation of time space.
He's the in-between, the destruction and regulation of time space.
A necessary evil, but a benevolent one.
The one that makes things stable by destruction, ironically.
Otherwise the Hitsui distortions, ultra wormholes, Celibi time travel, Jirachi's reality warping and hoopa's dimension hopping would have destroyed the pokemon world by now.
I have no doubt he was "banished" to the distortion world after his creation due to his destruction on everything, but I believe Arceus made the distortion world FOR Gary so he could learn to control and refine his powers to take the role of "arbiter" he was intended to have instead of "destroyer".
To be fair, the legend of Dialga and Palkia forcing Gary into the distortion world could be true, a newborn rejected from his family so suddenly without explanation will be "unhappy" and the destruction he caused to space time would have been immeasurable, not to mention the physical world, leading to most people believing him to be an evil destroyer, but it is shown later that he can easily traverse between his relm and his own.
I believe that Garatina's "banishment" would end when he could control his powers enough to make a portal to the surface. It wasn't permanent, rather a holding cell for Gary to develop control over his powers.
He's Arceus's balance over his siblings. If one or both get too rowdy, Gary beats em up.
He shares his sibling's dragon typing, but maintains a ghost typing a but more symbolically.
      Arceus vanilla is normal.
Neither can effect each other with STAB.
Garatina was made as a balance to creation. For his gravity to give the world stability. As a dragon, he fights his siblings when they step out of line. As a ghost he acts as a watcher for Arceus.

My thoughts? Giratina just has a temper problem. He takes his job seriously, but occasionally lashes out in anger. His banishment was basically Arceus saying 'go to your room until you calm down'. He even remembered the promise he made back in Hisui to protect Sinnoh, and that's why he stopped Cyrus. He was tired of being known as 'the bad guy'. His attacks on Dialga in the movie? Well, everything that happened in the last movie was Dialga's fault (for cracking Palkia's pearl during their fight). The damage dealt to the world in the ensuing chaos was reflected on Giratina's world, and he got justifiably angry about it. It's also implied that Giratina is the Pokemon from the Veilstone Myth, in which he chastises a human for needless killing. So, less like Satan, more like Hades.
Favorite Ghost-type? Hard to say. Giratina's great, obviously. The Litwik line is a cool concept, Gengar's an absolute boss even after all these years, the Honedge line is just plain cool, and Greavard, despite being so new, is super cute and kinda tragic. I also like the contrast between Trevanant and Gourgeist, how the harmless-looking one is actually really cruel while the scary-looking one is actually very gentle.

Giratina has long since been a favorite, along with Yvetal, and I've always preferred misunderstood renegade over 'devil'.
It's entirely non-Canon but in my head, the story is that Giratina is a Prometheus figure. Many many hundreds of thousands of years before the pokemon world as we know it, only the 'gods' or legendary pokemon had access to that crazy pokemon power/infinity energy/whatever. Pokemon lived more like dangerous animals.
Giratina felt this unfair and wanted all pokemon to have a fair shake. So he granted pokemon that same power that allows them to use all those wild moves we see.
Arceus got annoyed and banished him for that
I was always partial to a little more interesting story than just 'Arceus good, Giratina bad'

Legends Arceus also gives us a new perspective on Giratina. Volo held the last plate needed to reach Arceus, so he used us, and blamed us, for the distortion he himself caused. It's implied Giratina was attempting to reach Arceus, but couldn't by itself, so joined forces with Volo, but they both get defeated and Giratina retreats back to the ancient Turnback Cave.
Giratina ends up accepting you as a partner as you catch it, giving up in its plan to take revenge/attack Arceus and siding in protecting the world, just as the trainer that caught it. This can be infered as well thanks to Cogita, when she gives you "permit" to catch Enamorous, and tells you that "it can stay with you for now, but you won't live forever, so eventually, it will roam free again". Like Enamorous, Giratina eventually roamed free again, after you, trapped in the ancient Sinnoh, eventually died, as all humans do.
MANY MANY MANY centuries later, during the crisis with Team Galactic in DPP, Giratina watches as someone, AGAIN, is trying to destroy the world by opening and distorting time and space, but this time Giratina DOESN'T use this chance to help Cyrus, he basically ATTACKS him and drags him to the Distortion World, in an attempt to trap him. Considering the resemblance we bear in DPP to its old partner in Hisui, Giratina protected the world that its old partner lived in, and again, accepted Lucas/Dawn as its partner.
Giratina doesn't attack Cynthia nor the player, even before the battle, Giratina is just looking at the player, as if waiting for a response, never ferocious, only aggresive to Cyrus. Giratina ACTUALLY helped the world, and suppossedly, trapped Cyrus forever in the Distortion World, as he never truly left.
Giratina is not evil, maybe had rage for being casted away by Arceus but after the Hisui crisis, Giratina never wanted to hurt the world, just a creature that, due to its nature, must reside in solitude and in a world where time and space are absent, to keep a balance. Maybe it came to terms with it, and only gets involved when things really are dire.
I personally love Giratina, never truly gave me evil vibes, not even as a kid, as has remained as one of my favorites ever since.

I remember when I first found Giratina in Diamond, my cousin found the spring while I was over at his place and I dint have the national dex yet, so it wasn't there for me. So we got really curios and started exploring the area together on his DS, as he was running around in turnback cave we kept taking notes on the pillars and trying to figure out what the numbers meant. When finally a couple hours later there is was... The Mighty Legendary Giratina standing there menacingly. We where in awe, he rushed to it and the ear piercing screech echoing from the DS speakers, a formidable opponent he was for his team, unfortunately for us the team was already hurt and Giratina was not merciful, it wiped the poor Torterra, his last remaining. To the store he went to purchase as many Dusk balls, revives and Full Restores he could afford and then we returned with a new goal... Capture at all cost! a few hours passed until we found the creature again, awaiting our return. The battle was fears, the beats seamed weakening, yet the Dusk balls we threw couldn't contain his strength. A call was made to increase our chances to capture, he would need to attack it one last time in hopes of making it bloody. It was a risky move, but our resources where running low, he sent out and attack we watched at bar slowly draining... It stops just before the K-O. He threw his reserves of Dusk balls, it was starting to be a long battle, we noticed it was only using the same move over and over every time it broke a ball... sweat started forming on our heads as the nerves became evermore increasing, It was only a matter of time until we would capture it. And then for the first time we witness a fifth move being used... Struggle, we where confused, what was this move. It hit his Torterra dealing massive damage almost a K-O, with an extra text box "Giratina was hit with recoil" gone was last pixel of health. Upon returning from the battle the Legendary Giratina was no longer there.
This was all before we had access to the internet (and Pkmn Plt)so we had no clue how to "revive" Giratina, (we eventually figured it out).
This moment I shared with my cousin is one of the reason Gen 4 is my favorite Gen. as it is also the 1st Pkmn I owned for myself. (I had played pokemon Yellow and LeafGreen prior, but I was less then 10yo so I dint understand how to play)

    @TheNamelessOne888 Před rokem +23

There's a mythological inspiration for Giratina and another one that comes from theoretical physics.
Giratina is based on the Shinto god of storms, Susanoo, whom was banished by his father, Izanagi, from Heaven for his violent nature. He rules over a portion of the Japanese underworld called the Land of Origin. Susanoo's palace is said to be full of snakes, centipedes and wasps. When you combine these three animals, you get Giratina's Origin Forme design.
There's a concept in theoretical physics called CP violation. It means that if you invert the spatial coordinates of a physical system and replace all its matter with anti-matter, it would appear to behave the same except for a minor violation in the weak force. This is the core concept behind Giratina and the Distortion World according to the game director and the game designer of Pokémon Platinum.
The Distortion World's design is based on the Dirac Sea as well as various anti-universe theories. It was speculated that if space were to be inverted or if time were to be reversed, the four fundamental forces of nature would operate oppositely causing matter to acquire the characteristics of anti-matter with negative mass, which causes it to have negative motion.
Some theories and alternate physics models propose that at the opposite side of the Big Bang, there's a spacially inverted, time reversed, anti-matter universe while others propose that space-time is dual-sided and that gravity is bimetric. The latter propose that this type of universe exists on the opposite side of our space-time continuum instead.
The Distortion World itself seems to be the Pokémon World's gravitational field as it would appear on the opposite side of a dual-sided space-time continuum. It appears that the Distortion World's physical laws are under the effects of either parity inversion or time reversal. Under these conditions, matter would become negative mass anti-matter and the gravitational field would become repulsive.
That would be the reason why the land masses are suspended levitating in the Distortion World. The gravitational field repels the negative mass anti-matter, but in response, it moves in the opposite direction which causes it to anti-gravitate and form a cloud, or shell, around the repulsive gravitational field. Origin Giratina's ability, Levitate, is a reference to this.
From our side's point of view, the anti-matter from the Distortion World would appear to be gravitational anomalies with no apparent sources. In other words, we would perceive it as dark matter. Some other theories refer to it by different names such as shadow matter, alice matter, mirror matter or super-symmetric matter. That's what Giratina's signature move, Shadow Force, is referencing.

Okay, first of all, I really like your video. It's fun to see someone try to be as thorough and yet lighthearted at the same time. Honestly I find this channel to be really relaxing to listen to ^^
Interestingly enough, I do remember a movie where Palkia, Dialga and Giratina all squared off against Arceus. Giratina was the only one who was able to land a solid hit. Coupled with the fact that in Platinum, Giratina seems to have a special connection with Arceus -- notice that everytime he's ever mentioned, Arceus also has to be mentioned as well? Even in the Platinum Pokemon which simply states that he was "banished because of his violence", we are aware of only one pokemon who wields such power - Arceus.
Something else that needs to be mentioned is in the Pokemon Adventures manga, it's explicitly stated that Dialga and Palkia were always on good terms with each other, but that both were relatively hostile to Giratina (a feeling that is seemingly mutual), and that it takes BOTH Dialga and Palkia to counter Arceus.
So we know that Giratina is clearly more powerful (in the lore) than his counterparts, and is seemingly the only one who (if taking the movies into consideration), can actually hold is own (however briefly) against the literal God of Creation, and is literally born from his shadow.
This correlates with his signature move - Shadow Force - which can hit through any Protect that the adversary throws up - meaning that Giratina is so powerful he can bend reality (which seems to be the thing with the Distortion World) and hit the pokemon (though this is more speculation than fact).
What is certain, is that he is the very first pokemon ever designed who could literally change forms - which means that his power and control over reality is on a level that no other pokemon can really compare - besides the God who started it all.
As for his personality, Giratina is constantly described as being ruthlessly aggressive (which appears to be true when looking at his stats), but in the story, he shows a significant amount of patience and restraint: as you mentioned he saves Dialga and Palkia, he patiently waits for the hero to prepare themselves for his challenge, he banishes Cyrus for attempting to destroy the world, but spares the rest of Humanity (or at least attempts to), and in most movies he appears in (The Sky Warrior for instance), he plays a very active and central role in protecting the real world.
So here's my theory as to what Giratina really is: he's literally Arceus, but his more 'Chaotic' side. Giratina isn't evil or malevolent, but as an entity who was birthed the second Arceus was born (via his shadow), it could stand that he acts as some kind of counterpart to Arceus.
Like Arceus, he's also the ruler of an entire dimension, constantly observes the real world, and steps in when things get out of hand. When things begin to spiral out of control, and the fabric of reality begins to break down, Giratina steps in to try and rectify the situation. Though unlike Arceus who is (via the Arceus Legends game) distant, gently guiding the hero along, Giratina is more destructive and forward. It's also why when Arceus began to attack Humanity, Giratina immediately stepped up to challenge him.
I remember one of my best friends back when I was 11, describe him a bit as a Arceus' lonely brother who simply did his job and minded his own business, though was extremely ambitious King of the Distortion World (the gold looks eerily like a crown), and sometimes eager to challenge his brother when he saw the opportunity to do so.

Wow, what a great comment. Glad you liked the video! Wish I couldve been more thorough, but my computer sucks and when I try to make something longer than say 10-15 minutes, my editing software crashes. Anyway, definitely agree with you on this. Giratina and arceus are definitely connected, and Giratinas signature move, shadow force, "bending reality" is a really cool concept. Maybe Arceus knew that he couldn't beat Giratina, and thats why Arceus banished him, just to "make sure" Giratina didn't try to mess with the real world. Who knows, Arceus probably made the distortion world just for Giratina. Thanks for the comment again!

    • @jetzul712
      @jetzul712 Před rokem +2

@@creamthephoenix Sorry about the slow reply. With everything going on I completely forgot.
In response to your idea, I like the idea of Arceus banishing him to try to protect the real world from his powers, and I wouldn't be surprised that he intentionally created the distortion world just for him.
However, I don't see Arceus banishing Giratina just because he couldn't beat him or anything. Arceus has been shown to be remarkably merciful and gentle (so long as he isn't betrayed), and generally likes to stay out of people's and Pokemon's affairs.
And we do see him defeat Giratina too in one of the movies.
We do know that Volo got his first plate from Giratina because the latter wanted revenge against Arceus. So Giratina absolutely has a dark side to him, and will ally himself with dangerous individuals to get it - world domination was Volo's own ambition.
I believe that Giratina is indeed violent and dangerous, but he's not insane. Particularly after his defeat in Legends Arceus, he is able to limit his rage to only the individuals who are his targets (which is why, despite the hostility between himself and Dialga/Palkia, neither makes any attempt to harm the other, and he steps in to save them from the Red Chain).

    • @boianko
      @boianko Před rokem

I think there is some truth to this, but I'd posit it's more that Giratina is on a similar power level as Dialga and Palkia, but is much more ambitious and meddling, thus it was banished to the distortion world away from the lives of people and Pokémon.
It is a proactive force, that does not simply obey Arceus' will like Palkia and Dialga do for the most part. Its violent disposition would also seem to match with why it chose to have Volo as its chosen champion. It wishes to exert itself on the world (not necessarily do harm to it). It's why it appears on Spear Pillar in Platinum to meddle with Cyrus, and why it creates the space-time rift and aggravates Dialga and Palkia. It wants to be free to do as it pleases without the shackles Arceus has placed upon it.

Giratina is my all-time favorite Legendary and my all-time favorite Pokemon. It's actually one of the few pokemon that I have more than 1 plush of. I even have a Shiny Giratina Plush. And I wanted a Shiny Giratina in Pokemon Go. As a bonus, Legends Arceus is what made me love Giratina even more, and I love the battle. Giratina is actually the FIRST Legendary to have his own unique boss theme. And not just that, but he has technically 2 themes. Dialga only gets his own theme in the Mystery Dungeon Games, just as Kuremn does.
Arceus did have his own theme, but you have to hack diamond, pearl, and platinum to trigger his battle. So you get to hear it again for Legends Arceus, and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Mewtwo, the ultimate pokemon shares his theme with the legendary bird trio.
Legendary Beast trio, Latios/Latias, Groudon, Kyrogre, Rayquaza, Deoxys(remake),
and heartgold and soul silver came out after platinum.
yeah, even their originals lacked any unique theme, until the remakes that gave them a stand out theme.
The only legendaries to have a unique boss theme are as follows.
Giratina, Ho-oh(remake), Lugia(remake), Kureumn (Mystery Dungeon), Dialga (Mystery Dungeon), and Arceus (Legends Arceus, Brilliant Diamond, and sort of with hacked azure flute for Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum).
Giratina pioneered giving certain legendaries their own unique theme.

Dialga and Palkia would get Origin forms only in Legends Arceus. Hoopa is the closest pokemon to have 2 different forms on it's debut appearance. Giratina gained 2 forms on his debut.

Answer is Dusknoir, the Gripper Pokémon. A heavily defensive pokémon stat-wise. Is competitively outshined by its previous evolution, Dusclops, largely due to eviolite's existence, as its offensive capabilities is sorely lacking, as well as the stat benefits of evolution not being sufficient enough. Only really viable in doubles. Trick Room is heavily recommended, due to also having a very poor speed stat, and a more status focused moveset with moves like Toxic and Will-O-Wisp.

    To me, Garitina is gravity.
His job is to check the power of his siblings and whatever Arceus fragment exists at that time.
He was "banished" to the distortion world due to his uncontrollable power, distorting time space and twisting the physical world. Gravity can distort space time and applied force can break a lot. He was initially angry, his sudden banishment by his brothers due to his uncontrolled power was a personally justified reason.
The truth is, Arceus basically put him in a time-out training course. In order to escape the distortion world, Gary must first master his control over gravity. He'll get to see his destructive capabilities first hand and personally experience the consequences of his actions. With this, Gary would (eventually) learn to temper his sheer might from a bat to a blade.
He didn't quite get it right the first time. If he was unable to adequitely control his powers, Dialga and Palkia would kick him back to the distortion world. If he was still pissed and beat his brothers, an Arceus fragment would banish him again.
Until he learned balance, he could not exist in our reality.
In modern times, Gary acts more like a watchdog, an arbiter of the creation pokemon.
Though his rage has not completely subsided and his strength more subdued, he still posed a threat to our world's balance if he "overstayed" his welcome. So, he sits in the distortion world further refining his abilities so he could, one day, return to the surface without destroying it. His origin and alt forms prove his proficiency and adaptation to Arceus's rules.
Gary is a dragon to fight his brothers if their powers become unchecked.
Gary is a ghost to overwatch the current Arceus fragment, it's power unable to effect him without the power of the plates, something the original has innately, but not the fragment, has.
His rage is turned into a weapon for balance. An enforcer of order. An insurance that the power Arceus bestowed upon the trio and his fragments is never abused.
He ensures the rules of reality are in line enough that it does not destroy the world, but have some violations as his oversight is imperfect, unlike Arceus. To ensure that free will is absolute.
He cleans up his siblings and father's messes. He fixes the distortions they and the "exceptions" (Celebi, Jirachi, Hoopa, UBs, ect.) cause.
Gary is literally the pissed off, universe janitor.

  • @HellIsForeverWithInfinite
    @HellIsForeverWithInfinite Před 4 měsíci +1

Giratina being considered the Devil could be taken in 2 ways and I dont think him being evil is the way its to be taken.
It actually seems to be more-so the parallels between Gira and the story of Lucifer's Fall. Think about this:
If Dialga and Palkia control 1 thing each, those things being time and space, and Giratina controls antimatter, which is the reverse of matter, aka something required for BOTH time and space, that technically means Giratina is stronger than them both, so he would be the highlight of the trio, much like Lucifer was the highlight of the Archangels and God's favourite.
And then of course the obvious part, both are exiled and banished from Earth and whatever paradise Arceus has instead of Heaven (Im not too familiar with his lore). The difference being that Lucifer fell from Heaven willingly, while Giratina was banished for liking to do a bit of mischief. But even then, there are different versions of Lucifer's story where he WAS, in fact, forced into the fall.
So I think when people consider Giratina to be the Devil of the Pokemon world, they're not meaning it in the sense of "He's super evil", they're meaning it in the sense of "He's really similar to Lucifer".

My thoughts are, that Giratina is neither a Satan nor a antimatter personification.
I do believe, that Giratina is actually the personification of gravity. There are several reasons for that:
    1. He can change into the origin form, which has the levitate ability
    2. He can learn Gravity
    3. The main feature of his world are levitating boulders and gravitational anomalies (and not antimatter, which would cause the player to be annihilated, if he entered this world or giratina annihilated, if he entered our world)
    4. Gravity distorts time and space (distortion world) - would be more fitting in the creation trio
    5. This would explain the violent form: Gravity unchecked (black holes, etc.) would be devastating, that is why he was banished. (Until he would pose no more thread)
    6. Gravity is a relatively "weak and silent" force in the background of the universe, which would explain his ghost type. Would it be antimatter, the dark type would be more likely.
I may be wrong... but this is my head canon :D

Lockstin made a great video theorizing that giritina is actually in charge of gravity not antimatter since he interacts with stuffs and it’s not all vaporized Wich if he was anti matter it would be. But two pieces of evidence you used for him not being evil was, his Legends dex entry, and him saving dialga and palkia from Cyrus. However in legends arceus giritina helps Volo attempt to overthrow arceus and, atleast according to volo, he did this because he wanted to take over arceus throne and put many people in danger to do so. While yes he did save dialga and palkia in the games and defeat zero in the anime, these are seperate universes and in the anime dialga and palkia having there little boxing match in between worlds in the darkrai movie pissed giritina if so much he tried to kidnap, and possibly kill, dialga. So while I admit your video was interesting and entertaining I do ultimately think your wrong about giritina being good. Although that’s not to say he’s fully satan and thus PURE evil he’s definitely still a bad dude from it’s dex entries about it’s violent nature and what volo, Cynthia and many others say about it. Thus concluding my stupid MLA format, but not really cause I didn’t pay attention in English, comment
Edit: this is a very late comment likely no one will read it but I had fun compiling my opions on the topic
