An excellent video! Thanks.
Nice video, the details and tips are very helpful! Thank you!
Sage advice, brilliant video.
Amazing video bro 👍
Fantastic video man, most Honda/Acura vehicles have the exact same design when it comes to this. Very useful video!
Thanks for sharing Dave. Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend 🇺🇸😊
Thanks, you too!
That's a lot of work so you deserve a like
HUH, funny. Someone else that sets their watch to military time! Great video as always Dave and great informative tips!
Good job 👍
Thank you for yet another helpful 8th gen Civic video! (I've got an '09 LX)
Do you mind my asking what prompted you to replace the evap core and expansion valve?

Thanks Dave
Good stuff!
Thanks!
You could put thin, debris free cardboard in front of the expansion valve and take it out before finalizing
@BigDog50001
Do we need to fill the the new evaporator with 40ml of pag46 refrigerant oil? or is not needed
I appreciate taking the time to show the pieces and how they go together out of the car for a better view. Love the extra tips to help avoid possible headaches and installation issues we can run into. Very well explained and well shoot footage that can see everything clearly without hands in the wat of the camera. Surperb.
I appreciate the comment, thanks!
GRACIAS
I replaced my 08 civic ac system myself about 6 months ago. I wish this video existed then
I know I have a temperature sensor problem in my civic it will freeze over but now the whole AC does not even come on so I don’t know what to do
How much did you charge for a full rip and replace on the ac components?
wise guy '' the guy with '' the golden tie wrap '' 🤔🤓
Can you explain please, why you put freon via high line port? Shouldn't you put freon via low port only? I hear compressor gets damaged if you do High side.
High side inside vacuum with the compressor NOT turning is the best.
You have to be careful the compressor isn't turning or the refrigerant tank will blow up.
And if the system isn't vacuumed, the refrigerant won't get pulled inside.
We’re you a Honda technician? You are very knowledgeable when it comes to them
A lot of times the manuals can be found online and the forums are a huge wealth of information. Add both of those into CZcams format and you have a recipe for success!
Is there a reason you didn't change out the rubber lines too? Do they not fail that easily, even though it's pretty old? Is it usually the o rings that it tends to fail from?
The lines were still in good shape.
Another question, I am planning on basically changing out the compressor, condensor and all the o rings, leaving the system disconnected and taking it to the shop to finish it off. As far as I know both the compressor and condensor comes prefilled with oil so they don't have to figure that out?
Typically A/C compressors come prefilled with enough oil for the entire system. In general, you have to take some oil out of the compressor (oil balancing) to compensate for any components that were not replaced. That being said, the compressor on the Civic in this video does not need oil balancing due to the design of the compressor.
@@BigDog50001 Perfect, thank you!
I have an 06 crv lx and the evaporator has no thermistor? Is it located somewhere else on that model?
It’s got a thermal expansion valve instead
i have a 2010 civic lx. when i turn the car on in the morning-sitting in the garage the ac blows cold air but when i park outside in the sun at 90+ degrees it only blows plain air. clutch engages, fans turn on, has new relays and i took it to a mechanic and the expansion valve was replaced according to them. what can the problem be?
Evaporator, same reason I’m doing one
I hope you don't mind if I go off topic just for a minute here because I just went to the store and I had the air conditioning on in the car cuz I live in Phoenix and I was just sitting here thinking about this. That rotten smell that comes out of the vents from the air conditioning I understand it's water that settles in there and causes mold and stuff like that so I did the can of Lysol and it's still stinks. One thing I did not do I did did not take the filter out the one near the glove compartment. Should I take that out before I sprayed the Lysol into holes near the windshield wipers?
If u turn off your AC a couple minutes before u get to your destination and just have the fan bringing in the outside air it dries out the ducts and they won't smell.
I always do this and NEVER have any smell.
@@motorcitymanman7711 Yep, this is what I do!!
The best way is to remove the evaporator and clean everything but that is a lot of work. Anything sprayed into the air inlet would probably get caught by the cabin filter and most likely would not do anything. I prefer to do what Motorcityman recommends, turning off A/C before shutting off vehicle and letting blower motor run on high for a few minutes to dry everything out. Humidity usually compounds this issue, so if outside air is dry you can use fresh air mode (not always possible in Phoenix due to heat), or if outside air is humid (like during monsoon season) use recirculation mode to help.
@@BigDog50001 Well I sure do appreciate the advice from both you guys. I'll start shutting it off right before I get to my destination and turn on the blower.
When I worked on mine, I found that some of the larger shops had some incredibly high prices for recovery of the refrigerant. They appeared to only be equipped to charge for a more complete service.
Where can i get info on how much oil goes on the system.
(Taken from the workshop manual)
PAG 46 Refrigerant oil
For 2008 Honda Civic (All except Hybrid) EX(8th gen) and similar models:
A/C Condenser - 50 mL
Evaporator - 40 mL
Line or Hose - 10mL
Receiver/Dryer - 10 mL
Leakage Repair - 25 mL
A/C Compressor - Some come prefilled. Some are particular. Refer to manufacture instructions for balancing.
Thank you for the info.
ODD HOW THIS A/C VIDEO SHOWS UP WHEN I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT HOW GOOD THE A/C IS IN THIS 2007 HONDA CIVIC SI SEDAN IS BUT WHEN ITS ABOUT 90-100°+ WITH DRIVING OR CONSTANTLY KEEPING MOTOR (LIVING SITUATION RIGHT NOW) ITS ALMOST NON EXISTENT UNTIL REALIZING THE ACTUAL HEAT WITHOUT A GOOD OR BAD A/C
I wish you were local great mechanics are far and few between. Now there breaking 3 things to fix 1 😂
I went to the dealer today in Irvine California and they trowed me more BS about my Civic ac, they told me that all 3 component are bad, 2 are cover by warranty but they want to charge me 25oo for the evaporator bastard!
That sucks!
