It's all about the games for me. I was a PCVR guy for years but I don't think any one single year in the PCVR ecosystem compares to the PS VR2's first year. The fact that we got TWO whole Resident Evil campaigns is INSANE! I just finished RE4 on Hardcore and it took me 22 hours! Best VR singleplayer experience I've had hands down, and I've played both Alyx and Boneworks. Throw my over 200 hours of Gran Turismo 7 on top of that and it's just insane what the PS VR2 has provided me. This is not to mention all the other amazing games on the platform or the OLED screens, headset haptics, eye-tracked foveated rendering, and adaptive triggers.
I've owned a Rift, an Odyssey+, a PSVR1, and played a far amount of Quest 2 and the PS VR2 is on a whole 'nother level.

Thank you! I understand the sentiment when people say there are no games or there is a serious lack of games, but seriously even if they stop announcing new games there are so many hundreds and thousands of gaming hours to be had the value is there. Would I like more? Sure, but I can barely keep up I may have a week or two here and there where I'm ready for something new, but the drip is consistent enough to keep me happy.

The Exclusive games on PSVR2 are wonderful. But, imagine being able to play those same games using a Wireless Quest 3 connected to a Powerful PC. I promise those same games would be much much better. With Sony allowing the PSVR2 to connect to a PC maybe they will put those games out on Steam for some PCVR action. I can’t wait for the 50 series GPU to drop. The games are going to look Real! 😉👌

Yeah so is quest 3 another level to quest 2. PCVR and standalone VR beats PSVR2. I'll buy one (maybe) if it comes to PC but never had a playstation and never would. Hate playstation. Was Dreamcast GameCube x box Xbox 360xbox one then Series X with PC builds in between and am currently on PC which beats out a PS5 Pro on specs already lol

Yeah you got them but we can do it with mods. and also we can do any unreal engine game in VR and many others including cyberpunk 2077. do you even know PCVR. And most PSVR2 games that are on quest 3 it can run on it's own without even needing a PC. totally wireless and PSVR2 can't compare to that. Sometimes I can't be arsed to boot up my PC and just wanna jump into a game.

I own PSVR2 and Q3 (along with multiple high end PCVR headsets). And I appreciate and agree with this video. The media is trashing on the PSVR2 hard lately. Just like they've taken to declaring PCVR dead. As someone who owns and uses all of the above, I think the media is FOS. They're increasingly trashing on anything that isn't a Meta headset, and these claims are just not true at least from the standpoint of actual customer experience. Which headsets I'm having the most fun with and using the most are more or less in the exact opposite order the media would have you believe.
The media was declaring the PSVR2 DOA before it ever even released just based on the price. And this was always from a very PC-centric point of view where they're including the cost of the PS5 in the price, but not the cost of the PC because _obviously_ everyone has a PC already. Or they're arguing from comparison to Quest standalone and ignoring that this is a comparison to mobile chipsets with considerably less power. Either way, an unfair and misleading comparison.
Also thank you for pointing out that Q3 does not actually cost $500. Buying accessories like a hard strap for it is practically a requirement, whereas other headsets already come with everything you need in the box. So customers should be aware of the cost of the Quest accessories they will also need to purchase when comparing price.
I agree with you that the PSVR2 and Q3 are actually relatively evenly matched, and which is better depends on your use case and what you value more. I don't end up using my Q3 very often because its native games offer less fidelity. I use it when I'm traveling or to play its exclusives. And there are actually very few meaningful games that aren't also on PCVR and/or PSVR2. And I will always choose those other platforms when I have a choice because the game will be better on them.
The PSVR2 is probably the most underrated headset on the market right now. And it's a shame because I think it has really impacted its sales and consequently Sony's continuing investment in the platform.

  • @BlackMarketHoney

You said it. They are two different beasts. I started out on PCVR and got fed up with the constant tinkering with settings and spending on upgrades. I got the Quest 2 to use as a PCVR headset then got hooked on the effortlessness of standalone. It’s just like putting on a hat, then you start playing. I feel that the Quest gaming vs PCVR reduce friction by 70%. Of course the graphics are a bit N64, but I can play anytime, anywhere. I have taken it to parties, on holiday and yes, I am the VR prick on the train!
By the time PSVR2 came out, I was very interested, but had already invested too much into my Quest library and headset mods. So I passed.
PSVR2 is awesome. Especially the controllers, haptics and big titles. It is the closest thing to PCVR without the hassle and the costs. The only downsides I can see is that they didn’t make it reverse compatible with PSVR1 games and the non existent returns policy. These problems don’t exist with Quest or Steam.
As for the haters? They are either trying to justify their purchase, justify their choices, want to be in a gang, jumping on CZcamsr bandwagons or they are just pricks. Human beings are designed to be territorial and hunt. Translate that to modern times, when we don’t have to hunt anymore, you either evolve, or become a prick.

The PSVR2's hardware is the best in its price class. If the Open source community can crack the PSVR2 so to speak, than I am in.

If anyone plays Legendary Tales on PSVR2, you'll agree it is by far one of the best VR games available. Its a 40+ hour walking RPG, you craft stuff, kill goblins and skeletons etc its like an unmatched updated version of Blades and Sorcery. PSVR2 is the best affordable gaming headset out there Madison VR just came out, looks terrifying.

Only downside to PSVR2 is you can't use it as a standalone monitor if you don't have a TV as if you turn your PS5 on and turn on the headset, and a tv isn't connected, it says follow the instructions on the tv, if you then connect it to a tv you can instantly use it and there are no instructions on the tv. PSVR1 allowed you to turn it on, it turned in the ps4 and you didn't need a tv connected, and that didn't even have passthrough. Its the only thing i dont like about psvr2.

What a refreshingly fair assessment, especially in regard to the Quest catalog and the lack of really compelling AAA titles. That said, I think that's starting to change (which is about right since it takes 3-5 years to bring those titles to a new gaming medium (like standalone VR in this case). So really right now is about the right time to start seeing more and more titles become ready for release.
I consider Asgard's Wrath 2 and Assassin's Creed to be AAA and I suspect we will see more by the end of the year and a steady flow from here on out.
I also agree that PCVR is at an amazing point right now, particularly with the releaase of praydog's UEVR injector, with lots of great titles but still hindered by needing a powerful machine to run them. If anyone can figure out really solid streaming (a la Geforce Now) for PCVR, it could be a game changer.
That said, PSVR2 is amazing tech with a really compelling ease of use and some dazzling titles. It bothers me that so many people want to pick a side and pit the headsets against each other. More VR is better for everyone.
I do think Sony is missing a tremendous opportunity in focusing solely on new, VR-only titles. They have an enormous back catalog of titles across many platforms that would be amazing to play on a giant screen in a headset, especially if they created a framework to allow them to be played in 3D.
After playing Nintendo 3DS titles via CitraVR on the Quest 3, I was immediately sold on the potential for reviving old titles via VR mods. My first thought was how cool it would be to play the PS2 and PSP God of War games in 3D in a headset.

I have no hate on any VR headset Technology. I have only been a PC user and gamer for many many years, so all my games and apps are PC based games - even before VR even got started. I never did consoles such as Play Stations or Xbox systems. Both are very good, but I have too much invested in PC computers and had no need for a console system.
I now have the Quest 3 and works well on my PC gaming computer. And again I have so much invested in games for the PC and know the PC very well. I grew up with PC computers from day one when they became affordable. That is all I can say.

I'm not, and have never been, a console gamer. I also use VR for more than games (although plenty of gaming as well), so the Quest 2 and 3 with the standalone and PCVR capability they have at the price was a no brainer. I mostly use PCVR, and the upgrade from fresnel lenses to pancake lenses was worth it on it's own for the Quest 3. The standalone performance increase, resolution bump, colour passthrough/mixed reality, real IPD adjustment and wifi 6e were certainly nice upgrades as well.
That said, I'd still love to check out the PSVR2, but I don't know anyone that has one or locations that offer demonstrations. That makes it a hard sell locally for console gamers, and especially those new to VR. Why buy what amounts to an accessory only usable with a small subset of their console library (I've heard it compared to aim controllers, light guns and dance pads), which costs more than the price of the console? I'd really like to see what Sony do with PCVR and try that as well, since that would actually make a PSVR2 headset useable for me and provide direct comparison. It's hard to imagine the fresnel lenses seeming like anything but a massive downgrade from the Quest 3's pancake lenses. I stick my Quest 2 back on when sharing, playing multiplayer Quest titles or demonstrating VR to friends and family, and the fresnel lenses more than anything else really seem outdated.

I think it's a good pace the games are coming out for PSVR2. Ever heard of the saying, "Too much of a good thing is a bad thing"? The point is, I still have an amazing backlog to complete, so there's no room for complaint, lol. I hope Sony keeps pushing games into the store, whether they're new, ports, or exclusives. As long as it happens, who cares when they come out? You invested in a future device, come on now. How are people beating all these games is what I want to know. I've beaten 10 games and still have 20 to beat on top of that. Hell, it would be hard to keep up with the games even if you had an infinite catalog of games. I like people doing reviews so you can find out about the best games.

But you can use quest 3 on PC VR I do it all the time. although the standalone games keep me happy for now. But I have a ryzen 9 5900x and Rx 6800 and it smashes the PCVR. You do need to make some adjustments in the oculus debug tool to get it looking great. it's mediocre until you do that. well not in all games but some are blurry till i messed about with bitrates etc. now Skyrim VR looks amazing and so does anything else. EDIT when I unpaused you mention the PCVR I am still playing asgards wraith 1 as you get that as well as 2 when you buy the quest 3. which is awesome. that one is PCVR only though but is amazing. What GPU and CPU do u have? BTw humble has a PCVR bundle atm with loadsa cool games. Like 7 for £15. I picked it up just for after the fall. which is a saving in itself. Co's that is £23 or something on steam. Try the debug tool and those shortcomings you mentioned disappear. Or quest 3 games optomiser or sideload app to get better standalone VR graphics. Make sure you do some research before messing with debug tool though. It's easy just watch some video's first maybe.Makes a big difference as does the quest games optomiser and the sideload app. You can up the resolution and framerate etc
No mans sky VR is amaziong on quest 3 as well. in fact i am off to play it now lol. I got the 512gb version. else it was 128 gb. like a quarter of the storage.

I mean I've seen 3060s going for as little as 999, but I mean technically some of the 2000s can run some games. So you have to look at the specs for your headset and game you want to play. And as I said, VR are targeting the most popular platform, so unless you really want best graphics or OLED whatever, Quest 2 has the market in its hands. Not that it's really selling much better tho: most gamers are not in VR, it's mostly in the hands of brats or casual gamers at best.

I don't really get the cost comparisons you do as far as PC if its for quest3 its just 500 you dont need any extra trackers or whatever and you seem to lump the cost with (pc + quest3) as if ps5 does not cost $500 and then you can get into the whole debate how much pc games cost on steam and console game costs when you average those things out over like 5 years you will find out consoles aren't really cheaper. @@Eskoxo That is the general concern. They've already found a 150-200 adapter that works. Sony hasn't said anything else yet other than anounce the support. We'll see what happens. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Quest 3 is infinitely superior to psvr 2. Quest 3 has a huge library of games that all playable on their latest device. Constant updates for the headset, and Meta know how to market their product. Shame as I love Sony, but they’ve really let themselves and their consumers down with the lack of support for this headset.

Quest is an entry level children's VR toy, it is most definitely not superior to the PSVR2, what are you smoking?

It is not strictly "better". It's definitely a great piece of hardware, however they do different things. Psvr2 games are on the quality level of a high-low PC graphics, not only that but there are exclusives titles that would never run on a device like the quest(even if the processor is strong). Psvr2 also provides insane value quality wise. You're getting near PC VR level performance for around 1.1k, when most of setups cost around 3.5k. The quest 3 is a better overall device, it has top of the line media experience, it's portable and compact, has the best lense technology out there(pancake lense) and a higher definition display. Not only that but the entirety of the quest catalogue is compatible, however don't confuse this with meaning there's a ton of game's out there, most of the apps are just indies or media experiences, not exactly what I'd call "hardcore VR gaming".
Again it is flat out stupid to say quest 3 is infinitely better than psvr2, they're fundamentally doing two different things. I'd be like saying Quest is way better than PC VR when that's not really true, it's just the price difference being immense. The more ideal way to go about it is comparing psvr2 to PC VR, when you do that you'll realize the value/price ratio on psvr2 is simply out of this world, hell I know people who own PC and quest VR, yet STILL play psvr2 because of it's unique blend of simplicity and quality.

@@2nd2none73That can definitely happen, quest 3 is "good enough" that the graphics are tolerable at least. To the point where you'd have to go out of your way to see the difference between them. That's besides the other advantages quest has ofc.

@@HelVRI think they're both fine, neither are vastly superior except to fanboys. The extra storage is a rip off, mostly I play pcvr anyway.
