Of the currently made tubes I've had experience with thus far, the Gold Lions are by far my favorite!

    Hi there,
back in the days before the rise of the transistor everything was equipped with tubes -and Audio-Gear was the more 'simpler' Stuff then. Example: i have here a pro-grade communications receiver, it's using 28 Tubes and has about 130lbs. The tubes in them doesn't deal with frequencies up to around 20kHz as in your Preamp but up to more than 30MHz. Also the input signal isn't around a few Millivolts like your cartridge delivers, it's about 0.5 to maybe 5 Microvolts. So the tubes in that receiver have to deal with waaay more complicated tasks than in any Phono-Preamp. But ironically if i change one of these tubes to another one, the result is still the same all the time. It absolutely doesn't matter if they're manufactured by Telefunken, Valvo, RCA or so, they're all working perfect. And they have to, cause these kind of equipment were used by coast guards or air traffic controllers as example, so if only one tube wouldn't work absolutely right, many lives could be at risk.
So you may be think about if the different behavior of these tubes maybe may have something to do with the design of that preamp....

Have you tried the russian equivalent of the 12ax7 (6N2P/6Н2П)?

The tungsol and the genalex were both built in Russia but haven't heard of the ones your recommending.

@@4vinylsound You need the old soviet production. Look for 6n2p-ev.
