- If you already work in construction, you might have noticed that some of the more Senior Quantity Surveyors started off their careers as Civil Engineers.
This tends to spark questions such as;
• “Are the skills in these jobs transferable?”
• “Are their job roles similar in any way”
• “I wonder if there’s a difference in salary?”
In this video, we will explain the roles of a QS & a Civil Engineer, the differences in salary and hopefully help you gain a better understanding of each role.

Those salaries appear very low. I've never seen a Graduate QS job offering less than £28k and most experienced QS's are earning approximately £55k to £60k Seniors QS are above that and commercial managers are above that of senior QS so the average salary for a QS is much higher than the salary shown in this video.
The salaries are based on national averages, therefore could seem low depending on your geographical region. It also depends on the type of employer i.e., client, main contractor or subcontractor etc.
The Graduate QS role is often considered a higher position to Trainee QS, so you’d expect the starting salary to be higher.
You could check yourself for graduate QS in total jobs or Reed. Nobody offers more than that for graduate QS
@@nischalesturi1325 Oh yes they do. I've seen Grad QS get £35k, company vehicle, fuel card, private health care and pension contributions from day 1.

Ye I thought that too. I'm north east based so house prices, shopping, wages etc are generally lower here than elsewhere but these still seem low
