Note to the BBC - give this guy his own show, it would play in the US too. You could do little side trips on land to bring in the history crowd. You are a natural. Interview some of the lock tenders, get into the pubs and such. If I had your temperament, and equipment, that's what I'd do. Curious as to who pays to maintain all those locks, they all seem to be very leaky.
Thank you. The canal network is maintained, as far as they can on limited funds, by the Canal and River Trust which is a charity (to which all boaters pay an annual licence fee)
Whenever I hear "Lister" I can't help thinking of Red Dwarf haha
Me too, what a guy!
Smoke me a kipper...
Glad it's not just me😁
What a completely lovely part of the world. Thanks for showing us around.
Happy Cruising
As I am always well stoned while watching your videos, I appreciate the title of this one.
I’m always amazed at how lovely and scenic the UK countryside is. :)
I'm glad you can't resist the animals! They add to the quality of your videos!
I'm a random college student in the U.S. and just happened to stumble upon your videos and they are so amazing for background noise while studying, although I find myself getting distracted by the beautiful scenery and architecture. I know I absolutely nothing about narrowboating but I find it fascinating. Hopefully I can take a ride on one when I visit England one day. Keep up the good work!
Highly therapeutic again! You must be running the most relaxed channel in this part of the Galaxy !! Thanks for the Hard Work :-)
I bring intergalactic peace!
Spent 16years cruising the cut and enjoyed (almost) every day.Your blogs bring back so many memories.Thank you!
Here in Phoenix, the Western Desert is about to live and breathe at 45 degrees! Actually more- closer to 47 (117 for my fellow Americans) So, we jump in the pool and come inside with the AC, then fire up CZcams and vicariously enjoy the English countryside and canals- where it is (or at least was a few weeks ago) cool enough to wear a fluffy hat! I'm pretty sure you will be saving a life.....Thanks for all the wonderful vlogs!!!
That is too hot!!! Cheers for watching :-)
Hi David, I see the Canadians have been very generous in sharing their geese with England as well as the US. I think in our case they came south for the winter and decided they liked the weather and decided to stay. Thanks Canada but that's enough. We have hundreds on every golf course in Phoenix. Love your videos.
Laying here on my bed, i love the sound of your lister motor. Puts me right in the mood to go to sleep..but the sights keep me watching vlog after vlog. Happy trails.
You're not alone, Marjorie. Just one more is so easy, since they're bite-sized, right? *;- )*
Truly beautiful scenery in this installment, as there is in so many others. I watched this one, then immediately clicked 'replay' and watched it through again. A few years ago, I learned of the German word "Fernweh," which loosely translated means " longing or homesickness for a place to which you've never been." Not until I became a subscriber to your channel did I fully understand. Your canals have become that for me. Thank you for showing a part of the UK that the average American never gets to see. Most of us don't even know the canals exist, let alone have any knowledge of that slow-motion way of life. Time to binge watch from episode #1 again.
I'm so pleased you enjoy the videos, thank you!
Hello from New York.I cannot adequately describe the pleasure I am getting from watching your videos. Thank you so much!
Excellent!
I've so enjoyed watching your vlog!! I'm in the US so I watch it late at night when I cannot sleep!! ty for all you do!!!
Thanks for watching!
Yes he puts me to sleep too.
Ahh my old homeland, lovely to see it again... thanks for the tour :)
Glad you liked it.
I just found your channel a few days ago and have not been able to stop watching. I have always been interested in living on the water and I think narrowboats are the ideal way to do that. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I love the UK countryside and would love to live there someday on a narrowboat.
Very enjoyable indeed.....thanks for taking us along.
Thanks Gary
Stoke on Trent has special meaning to me my dad was born there in 1911 and moved to NZ in 1918. Loving the scenery still.
Ken Allen gosh, your dad was only tiny when he left, it’s great he was old enough to have memories of his homeland. I expect it’s nice for you to be able to see where your dad/heritage is from.
I love your videos David. Good job. I use an adblocker when I watch so you do not get any money from the ones I actually watch. I am ashamed to admit I never thought of removing the adblocker and just letting your videos run until I saw someone else comment about doing that. So now I take the adblocker off and run your videos at 2X speed at night while I sleep. I ran through 1-94 last night with the ads running. I will restart watching today at about 195 where I am at present with the adblocker on. Then tonight it is back to no adblocker so you can earn a bit of money.
easy like a Sunday morning....very subtle!😉
:-)
Omg i live in stone wish i knew this 3yrs ago 🤣 would of loved to say hello
Another beautiful post. I have enjoyed your videos for months now and have gotten my sister and brother in law watching your posts. Your adventures have become a topic of conversation at family barbeques. We love your relaxed storytelling style and the gorgeous pastoral scenery. Thanks for the uploads!!
Thank you for increasing my audience!
I've just discovered your channel and have fallen in love with narrowboats!! What an idyllic picture you have painted. I'm sure not all days are like this. I could definitely live this life!
Thank you. As I write this, the skies are grey, it's raining and cold outside. Not cruising weather! However, inside the stove is roaring warm and I'm sat by it with a cup of tea so even on the rubbish days it can be quite charming :-)
What a beautiful country you live. Picture perfect
Hi David, thought you might be interested to know those kiddies windmills near the start of your vlog are put there to keep moles away. They don’t like the vibration as the blades go round...I’ve loved watching your videos. Keep up the good work!👍
I spent the first 18 years of my life in Barlaston. I didn't want to, but my parents insisted.
My maiden name is Stone and I have just looked it up. It is one of the first names ever recorded in the world and it could well have originated from that area :) cool x
Cool indeed.
What I like about your Vlogs is the informative style, and you don't try for the enforced ebullient entertainments. Although, I take it back...... That hat 😂😭 sorry, but you did look funny:)
That turning with the tiller to counteract the force of the wind is called a weather helm
It is? Cheers
Beautiful, I really enjoyed that thank you 😊
Cheers Carole
You're so appreciated here and and we find you to be a joy as well as the journey.
Thank you, David.
That's a lovely thing to say, thank you.
The train shot was very cool
Surf Earth. Virgin, Class 390 Pendolino.
looking how calm the water was reminded me of when we lived in northern illinois on the chain of lakes. you would be on the water all weekend with guests and family and friends along with a ton of other boats--and literally some days whitecaps on the water. but come monday morning, when all the weekenders had gone home, you would go out on the water and it was like a sheet of glass. brought back some great memories.
Despite the fact that I live in Illinois, I have never been on the lakes in the north but it sounds amazing. My wife's family has an RV and dock on the Kankakee River and they also describe mornings on the water like sheets of glass!
absolutely love your videos.. they make me want to move to England ..I will have to get a t-shirt and coffee cups
Excellent! Thanks :-)
just finished watching all your vids and just brilliant and very informative now you have me saving to live aboard
Haha, don't blame me!!
My wife calls your mug the 'cutting the something' mug. Funny!
Another great video, thank you.
It's near enough!
I wish we had more canals in the USA like you have in the UK
Did anybody else notice the stately elderly gentleman that was fishing on the left side of the screen, it looked like he was wearing a top hat. Happens between 7:05-7:11 elapsed time.
One of the many reasons I enjoy your videos - you always have 2 days in a vlog (i.e say 'good morning' twice), away from the unwritten rule that says that vlogs are always (and must be made) daily, like a 'dear dairy'. It gives me the illusion that the video is very long, but it's actually only 10-15 minutes each, great job!
David the easiest way to remove bird poo is a garden sprayer full of water, simply spray it to soften it then go back and spray it off the roof or solar panels and down the side of the boat. I use to own a black car and I am sure birds hated black as it was a regular target. Leaving it on was deadly with paint of that era and it was the easiest and most hygienic way to remove it. 🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜 Also I think all the Morris Minors are here there are quite a few very active clubs here. 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗
Great to see you getting up here in Stoke-on-Trent, make sure you stop off at Westport Lake, for some oatcakes, we have our own Narrowboat Oatcake shop here....great work David.
I did atop there but the boat was all shut up :-(
Looks like the Morris Minor from Call The Midwife.
I so much enjoy your vlogs. The way you present them is so relaxing and inspiring. Keep up the good work. California girl.
That's nice to hear, thank you.
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! Very peaceful, I actually felt like I was along for the ride, I even got up from the computer and fixed a a cup of Earl Gray so I could sip it while watching. I have ordered a new monitor, the Samsung Supra Ultra Wide CHG90, I am looking forward to watching on it when it comes in. So peaceful and warm, loved all of the scenes in this, a great great balance. Cheers and as always God bless
If you open a window to let the breeze in, and occasionally spray yourself with water, you'll have the fully immersive experience! Cheers :-)
HAHAHA!!! Yes! Indeed
Another beautiful video, as always, David. Those pinwheels along the fields serve 2 purpose, 1, they are pretty, 2, they cause an underground vibration that is supposed to annoy burrowing critters, like gophers, etc., to keep them away from the roots of plants. I am not sure how effective they are, but here in the States, many farm stores and garden centers sell them for that reason. :)
That is the weirdest thing! I went past a bit of canal with loads of mole-holes recently, maybe I should have planted some of those things in the ground there!
You could start a new trend amongst the boaters! Plant a pinwheel along the bank each time to moor up in a 48 hour spot. Write the date on one of the petals. It would add color to the banks of the canals, and give other boaters something to wonder about if they are not aware of the new trend! LOL
:-)
I have come to really like your vlog. Been watching for about a week now and find the beauty of England breath taking. Thanks for all you do and film.
Your video's have shown me how beautiful the canals are and also that the canal boat life is not for everyone. Not only not cheap but alot of work, alot more work than I imagined. Thanks for doing the work for us. You're a great narrator too. PS my cousin told me about your channel.
Great videos the past few have been really good.
Thanks Brian
Great video, as always, loved the train😊.
It was a splendid piece of timing :-)
I had to leave my Morris Minor behind when I went home back in the 70's. Loved that car. Love these videos.
Another great journey, yes there certainly are some very interesting and well made bridge structures throughout Great Britain 👌😎✌️
I find the bridges endlessly fascinating :-)
I just love your accent. I imagine you would sound equally as soothing relighting the telephone directory.
Perhaps I should try that as one of my videos?
Accent? What accent?
What a smashing video. That lovely old building used to be Joules brewery,. You chose a beautiful town to pass through. Shame you didn't take your video camera and do a vlog of Stone.
Beautiful scenery , pleasant weather for you enjoy your stay. Thanks for the insights, yet again.
Cheers Paul
Glad you reloaded the vlog...I got halfway through watching and had to stop. Went back a few mins later only to find it gone!! Thought I was going bonkers when I could not find it! Great vlog and lovely scenery.
Thanks for bearing with me :-)
me too :-)
Love all the duckling shots...thank you...:)
I’m from Just north of Seattle Washington, USA. I sure enjoy learning about narrow boats, and love the trips you take. Beautiful canals, even the ones with garbage in them!
Thank you
Whats your favourite weed? Let me know when you are on the kennet and avon canal we can share a bong :)
I always enjoy your lock sequences :) From a Staffordshire native in Oz. With regards.
More on the way :-)
oh ,well done, your best stories yet, thanks!
Cheers Linda
That convenience store at 14:40 ish was where I discovered the joys of Staffordshire Oatcakes ..... wonderful grub :)
Despite going through Stafforshire, I somehow managed not to try one, can you believe it?! One day...
Great episode!
Enjoyed the locks very much. More please...
More soon
Great vlog as always, the countryside around Stone looks great, roll on Stoke On Trent.
Next vlog...
Another great vlog David Thank you. Looking forward to the scarecastle tunnel Vlog
It's ready and will be up after the next one, if I recall correctly.
Another reason to not moor under trees is that in the autumn they drop nuts. If a nut hits a brass roof vent it goes “ PING”. We call them ping trees. One of the worst areas for this is just the Rugely side of Wolsey Bridge.
That cottage at the end with its own mini marina!! I want it!
Get off, it's mine :-)
The whole point of owning this property would surely be that you can have both!
Thank you for another relaxing break in my too-busy Monday; I truly feel indebted to you!
“Easy like Sunday Morning”
Love the titles of your blogs 👍😄😄
😊 Thank you
What an interesting VLOG with the Morris Minor, the Gypsy caravan and the lovely gardens. You get quite a workout with all the locks and those awful stone steps to that lock looked very dangerous. I'm quite envious of the peaceful places that you go through.
Funny how health and safety meant there's a handrail now on the bridge over the lock but you're free to fall from the steps ;-)
Sounds like they do things the same as over here in the US!!!
Some great nit picking here!!
Calming cruise views on the NB. Thanks mate!
The scenery is just stunning. Thankyou for your videos.
Loved the multi coloured wind turbines.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. One is thinking of coming over and buying a boat, and spending a few years as a canal gipsy. Thanks to you DAVID. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍🥂
People often put those little windmills in their English lawns to keep the pesky moles away. The moles don’t like the vibrations passed through to the soil and go somewhere else.... allegedly 🤔😊. Lovely vlog, as ever, David 👍🏻
8:54 that stained glass effect on the bow of that boat is really nice!
i love to watch your videos while getting stoned as well
I am also a big fan of the cheese sandwich. Cheers!
all my life i have had cheese sandwiches preferably with some tomato soup. its a great warmer in cold weather.
Awesome cruise! Thank you.
:-)
thank you for putting your videos on CZcams, many years ago I spent a lot of time on the canals, lot's of fun . enjoy your time on the cut.
Thank you!
Between the locks and the many boats to avoid along the way, I sense that narrowboating is no longer such an obvious escape from the stresses of sedentary lifestyle...
I’m excited for today’s wee beasties.
I love them all.
I have to be honest your making me think the narrowboat life may just be for me.
Thank you keep up the good work. Love your vlogs
Cheers Arthur
Had a stress filled day moving house, and now I can relax with this vlog, perfect :)
I hope all went well, stress notwithstanding?
Very well thanks, other than having to put gettinf a canal boat on hold for a year or so
Nooooo!
Nooooo!
CruisingTheCut hah Yesss :'( thanks to you I get to do a good bit of gongoozeling tho :)
Can’t believe how much younger you look with your hair cut :)
You got me! Here's a Hit for you 👊💨 that's that good good!" Stay safe 😷🙏
Easy like Sunday morning 😂. I agree about the bicycle comment, since you're near a canal you should always find a very flat roof nearby.... Although as a Dutchman I have been very surprised by the absolute hatred most road users seem to feel towards cyclist....
Awesome video David , as always, beautiful countryside gotta love it. :-)
Ta
The signal box in Stone is part of the boat yard, there is also a narrow gauge railway that goes around it, worth a look also is its museum it has onsite.
Beautiful scenery
Yey another wonderful episode of your journey. Your lock-working skills are now legendary I guess. The video was superb. Thank you
Had a Morris minor here in Charlottesville, Virginia just this past weekend. July, 2021.
Excellent narration
always enjoy your vlogs 🎀
Thank you.
I half expected to see Shrek, Fiona and the ogre triplets waving at you from that purple boat at the beginning of the trip 😂
Love the view from the canals and the old buildings and scenery.. This pace suits me. This would have to be one of my favourite sections of the canals so far that last garden with the little dock and gates was so sweet and charming
Enjoyable.Cheers!
7:30 "Don't Panic" written in big friendly letters :-)
Hi David, I love watching your progress from here in Christchurch, NZ, although the great British summer looks a bit like our winter. We have friends in Stone and will be visiting them by canal boat in September. I am looking forward to that and the Trent and Mersey.
I hope you have a terrific time. September should be nice.
