Duke's quote at the end is splendid! 😍
Agreed
In a sentimental mood
I can see the stars come through my room
While your loving attitude
Is like a flame that lights the gloom
On the wings of every kiss
Drifts a melody so strange and sweet
In this sentimental bliss
You make my paradise complete
Rose petals seem to fall
It's all I could dream to call you mine
My heart's a lighter thing
Since you made this night a thing divine
In a sentimental mood
I'm within a world so heavenly
For I never dreamt that you'd be loving sentimental me
Blow my mind when I heard this on album.
That touches the heartstrings 💌🎵
Wonderful!! Would love for you guys to do a whole album of standards!
If you haven't seen it, check out Shai and Chris Potter play All the things you are. My favorite jazz recording of all time.

Seems that he possesses three hands !!😮
You can definitely hear the mehldau Largo years influence but in a uniquely Shai way! Love his interpretations of standards
He plays a little like Russel Ferrante from Yellowjackets
all the lonely people ~
like Brad Mehldau
Well great playing and great composing. but I don't understand why it's necessary to make such a mess out of this beautiful song. Why not call it an original composition and name it something else?
It's not about necessity. It's about expression. Throughout all history, great musician expanded upon simple themes and skeletons. There is an added value when you know the original tune and listen to how the musicians evolved it. BTW, It's clear that you just wanted to diss this music ("such a mess") and you hide it behind a fake complement. Why was that necessary? You could have just listened to your favorite take of the tune.
and charlie parker made such a mess of all those old tunes as well
Bro doesn't understand the concept of a jazz standard or of jazz at all
