With a 7mm Weatherby and the Hornady 139 gr. bullet, I was destroying a lot of meat on deer and Antelope. I went to the 140 gr. Nosler Partition and the meat destruction was much less, however the animals did take one or two steps more before going down.

I have used and continue to use both now for over 30+yrs in various calibers 30-06, 300 Win Mag/WSM, 7 Rem Mag, 7-08, 308, 25-06, 270 Win/WSM, 280 and I’ve taken a number of deer, moose, elk and black bear over the years and I cannot recall even one time where either the Partition or the Interlock failed. Most shots (about 80%) were 250yds or under and a handful at 400yds.

A partition in a 280 rem 150 gr and 180 gr 300 wsm have both been devastating on elk and exotics. I use 140 gr Winchester silver ballistic tip in 280 rem for whitetail/ muleys because animals seem to go down faster I assuming because the bullet comes apart doing more quick internal terminal velocity damage, but a partition will drive right thru bone still take an elk down at 400 yards if misjudge wind etc. I love the content.

My vote is for the Interlok. I have not tried the Partitions, but they obviously sound like a great bullet. Availability is definitely a concern if you can’t get your hands on them. I’ve shot a few big bucks in Maine that have been well over 200lbs dressed and a lot of other ones just under. With my 7mm-08 the Interloks have dropped just about all of them in their tracks. I can’t remember one of them going more than 30 yards or so. With these results I’m more then confident using the Inteloks

I use Partition on elk and larger and Sierra Gamekings on deer and smaller. Any relatively inexpensive cup and core bullet will work just fine for deer sized game provided you aren't shooting it at super high velocity. At least that's been my experience after 42 years of hunting.

Been using hornady interlocks for 35 years and found they do just what they say they do. I've used both of these types in a few different calibers and stayed with interlocks. I hunt in PA and don't get many shots more than 300 to 400 yards. The interlocks were more accurate and killed much faster. I did a BAD shot on a monster mule buck, (I was going for his neck as he was running from me) he jumped, and I hit his ass, smashed through the pelvis, down a tenderloin, through the lungs and I found the bullet on his brisket. Still weighed 250 grains (was 300 origonally ) after it passed through 4' of buck. (ONLY partition I ever recovered). Oh, I ate the tenderloin that night WITH a 3/4" bullet hole down the middle

@@ReloadingWeatherby iv been able to get sub 1 " groups at 200 yards with partitions they can a little harder to get to shoot that way but then again they are not a target bullet they are a "hunting" bullet and as such work absolutely fantastic when used typically under 500 yards where bc means very little. For longer shots I use berger hybrids or eld match. For example in my 300 prc I run the 208 eld match and have taken elk moose deer bear ect under 300 I shoot thru the lungs 400 and over I go high shoulder. I love the partition in general 1 of favorite loads uses a 200 grain partition in a 300 win mag have help numerous people develop loads for there guns with that bullet mainly 300 win mags or 300 weatherby rifles and a few 300 rums and it makes short work of everything it touches

The Interlock is a great deer bullet under normal conditions. It really is an improved CoreLokt idea. The old Remington CoreLokt was also a very reliable and cost effective bullet before Hornady brought out their Interlock design. The Partition is a great heavier than deer bullet under normal conditions. Both are fairly vintage technology and have probably been eclipsed but not truly replaced. Probably never will be totally replaced. They are both good at what they do and how they do it.

When taking cost into account, I would go with the Hornady interlock because they are considerably less expensive than the partitions. You know, if Nosler or anybody else had deliberately engineered a cheaper bullet that was 100% interchangeable with Partition they would have had a real best seller. Use the regular ones for deer and targets and the Partitions for the big boys. The only reason the Partition doesn't enjoy widespread universal bullet status is cost. It's reputation is stellar on game. We just fired 3 rounds of factory .30-06 this week. Federal Premium with 180 Partitions. They were running about $30.00 a box when I bought them years ago on clearance for $7.00 a box. Now it would cost about $60.00 a box to replace them. $3.00 a shot isn't a recipe for selling tons of ammo or bullets. And yes, that particular rifle shoots Hornady Interlock just fine and has taken game with the Hornady. Most of my deer were with Interlock bullets. They get the job done just fine at a price that makes premium bullets by any maker a joke 90% of the time. It's that last 10% of hunting scenarios that just might be worth a special premium bullet. Ones with an engineered insurance policy designed into the bullet.
