  • Discover the Secret to Perfect Plant pH! Uncover the mysteries of pH levels for your plants and learn how to calibrate and replace your pH probe like a pro in this informative video. Keep your plants happy and thriving by getting the pH levels just right - don't forget to subscribe for more gardening tips!
    ** I said in the beginning of the video my source water was really alkaline when in fact 7.0 PH is neutral. the PH range is 0-14 so anything under 7.0 is acidic and above 7.0 is alkaline. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, but I didn't want to get into a water chemistry class on this video just trying to explain how to get our pH to 5.8 - 6.0 which plants want. **

    I would rinse the probe, storage solution left on probe WILL make a difference in water in the cup since it isn't very much. Love your channel and grow, keep up the great work!

      I did notice that I didn't rinse the probe when I first used the handheld. Makes sense why the EC and PH were so far off. Thank you for noticing. I always rinse and wipe the probes. Making the video messed me up LOL Thanks again for your comment.

    My pen probe's been doing the same as your inline probe... good reminder to replace. (cleaning and calibration hasn't helped much here).

    pH Down is a stable solution of 81% phosphoric acid. It is used to lower the pH of your nutrient solution. It is a very concentrated product and a little goes a long way.

    Hi Kate, I found your video informative. I do have a question because you said that having a PH wrong will throw off your EC. So the question is how you adjust or measure your PH before you add nutrients? Do you fill your nutrient tanks with an adjusted PH water first? Thanks.. I have a system much like your first.

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  Před 2 měsíci

      I just end up adjusting both EC and PH till I get it in line. I start off with the right concentration on the tanks so Im trying to only inject about .05% on all dosatrons.

    Thanks for the video and education. pH probes are a blessing a a curse. Besides a small hydroponic setup, I also have a small vineyard (120 vines) and for years I just used the 'cheap' pH probes and the frustration and inaccuracies eventually were too much so last year I splurged and bought better equipment and it sure has made a difference. I do like the Blue Labs products, I just wish they showed one extra decimal place in the readout. Maybe not so much for veggies, but for wine, a 3.2 reading could be 3.20 or 3.29! No way to tell and it makes a big difference. The meter I use for wine is from Vinmetrica and for my hydroponics, I still use a Blue Labs device.

      Yes it one of those things you have to have and keep going. I heard the same thing in the beginning to buy good equipment once than to buy cheap stuff multiply times. Blue Lab stuff is great. The president of the company actually came and visited me a few years ago when he was attending the Cultivate Show in Columbus. Great guy!!

    I hope you realise that you have to rinse and wipe the probe in distilled water before taking a reading or all you are getting is the pH of the probe storage solution, which is about 3.9.

    Sulphuric acid? Was this recommended by your nutrient manager? We use PHOSPHORIC acid because it breaks down into constituent components the plants take up. (as well as being industry standard)
    Very curious. I have NEVER heard of sulphuric acid being used as a regular PH down adjuster.

    • @farmerjhemp
      @farmerjhemp Před 2 měsíci

      Phosphoric acid isn't all that practical at scale.

    • @gardeningwithscience1317
      @gardeningwithscience1317 Před 2 měsíci

      I always use nitric acid. Nitric acid is the norm in New Zealand

    • @farmerjhemp
      @farmerjhemp Před 2 měsíci

      @@gardeningwithscience1317 I just started using nitric acid because I've got very hard water and I wanted to utilize the calcium carbonate. Do you ever see imbalances in your system? I just started using it and I wasn't sure if I might see some excess nitrogen issues.

    • @gardeningwithscience1317
      @gardeningwithscience1317 Před 2 měsíci

      No. The amount of nitric acid used is so sma ll that the nitrogen added is insignificant.@@farmerjhemp
