- It is common to find numbers stored as text in Excel. If you enter an apostrophe before a number it makes it as Text. Sometimes this can happen when you download data from a database. The cells with number in text format are treated as text and Excel won't consider these values as numbers hence ignore them during calculations using SUM or AVERAGE functions. There are multiple ways to convert text to numbers in Excel, please watch the video to learn the different techniques to convert text to numbers.

Bro I have In the samr column half prices as numbers and half prices as text..I want to convert them all to numbers..can you write me the exact steps?
If you have prices as true text, like Ten dollars and fifty cents then that can't be converted to numbers. Only if the true numbers(10.50) are defined as text you can convert them to numbers.
I could not multiply or add the number * text with the number, the result is # VALUE! For example Rs. 10 * any number= # VALUE!. How can I solve it? Please help me with it.
