Since I handload, I can just stuff a 210 grain bullet in my 300 Win Mag and match the velocities of the PRC, so same trajectory, wind drift, and distance-to-transonic. However, that much bullet in the case means it MAY not be as accurate as the PRC (but it could also be great...the proof is in the shooting). Naturally, if one does not handload, the PRC is the way to go if you want to pop targets in the next zip code.
Doesn't work out that way because of pressures.
@@richardfinney3169 have you actually looked at any load data? SAAMI pressure specs for the PRC is only 1,000 PSI greater than the WM (65,000 vs. 64,000), and with many loads, the pressure for the WM is actually higher than for the PRC, so the difference in velocity is minimal. Talking to other long range shooters, the difference in dope between the 300 WM and the PRC at 1,500 yards is negligible. The PRC does have some advantages, as the firearms and actions are built around a bullet seated waaaayyyy out, but a simple throat job on a 300 Win Mag allows the same OAL (granted it won't allow feeding from the magazine). The PRC is primarily for those who want to shoot factory ammo or don't want to have a little gunsmithing done and settle for single shots when engaging targets at long range, but in the real world it is not dramatically better, and ammunition selection and brass is extremely limited compared to the old WinMag.
@@noahmercy-mann4323 yes I shoot the 300 am it's the actual pressure of the load at trying to achieve those ballistics I'm talking about, the big 30 has to much weight versus the amount of powder to case capacity to get there. The prc was designed to get there with better pressures . Trust me the recoil of the 210 grain thirty at those specs is impressive to say the least.
I have a 300 win mag kicks like a mule I don't shoot it much my shoulder doesn't like it ,these days I'm more of a 308 cat ,thanks for the info ,learning a lot from your channel
With a custom barrel the wm mag can be equal to the prc in every way but custom cost money...

Depends on whether or not you can hit your vitals still. I'm not saying that I can hit vitals personally but I know the 300wsm I have has the fps and fpe to ethically kill an elk out to 900yrds and my hunting buddy can hit a pretty much Center on the 8inx8in target we use (train shackle painted orange) at 1000yrds consistently enough I wouldn't be shocked at all for him to take an 600-800yrd shot even cold bore. However he usually hunts with a muzzleloader or bow anyway because that's more entertaining for him.

Agree wholeheartedly! This nonsense of shooting at an animal at 600 yards is giving all hunters bad press. The individuals who are actually capable of this type of shot are a tiny, tiny fraction of shooters, way lower than 1%.
Gotta love the data prc are no joke I saw a video comparing 6.5 creedmore vs 6.5 prc at 300yds the prc only 200 fps faster but the prc blew clean holes through the ar500 steel target and the cm barely scratched it👍👍
Just picked up my first 7mm rem mag. Loooove it. Was a hard choice between it and the 300 win mag but my goodness what an amazing versatile round
I have many rifles in both calibers and the 7 rem mag is a great caliber and if you reload one of the very best!

I shot my 1st elk with a 6.5-300 it did the job… but I feel it’s too light on energy for elk. The 300prc has a BC of .77 up to .81 which Is equivalent to BC’s of the 338 lupua mag that higher resistance to be moved stays on target is why I love those 2 calipers. The 6..5-300 for deer! It has less bullet drop and flatter shooting
But the BC is half the other 2. Less resistance, easier to move off target.
Just thought the 6.5-300 wby is worth mentioning

With my 7mm Rem Mag, i have a close zero at 50 yd, far zero 225 yds this puts my 400 yard drop below line of sight around 4 inches. My objective was to set it up to hold dead center from the muzzle to 400 yds without any dope. Realistically i will probably never take a shot on game beyond 200-300 yds. KISS (Keep it Stupid Simple) nothing to mess up, just breath control and squeeze it off! Love your channel!

Good video. The difference between the 'X' (hunter) and the 'M' (match) is this: The 'X' has more of the weight in the base of the projectile designed for impact and mushroom, whereas the 'M' has more of the weight in the centre of the projectile for longer range and gyro stability. Having said that, I use 212gn X in my 300wm for hunting and these are my stats using SAAMI: 2951fps, 4098ft.lbs, 1.53gyro. At 1000yds: 1023fps, 492ft.lbs and a drop of 441". Zero to 1000yds in 1.8402sec. 63219psi. 99.99% burn rate. I have dropped camels at 500m plus. I'm in Australia. But good comparison.
I have never bought a rifle or caliber because some one said it was good or bad, the rifles I have, I bought because I liked them. I have some calibers like the .300 rcm in the guide gun. Some people don't like this caliber, I love it. I also have a .375 rum, do I need one, mabey not, but I like the gun alot so... to each their own. Thanks for your videos and time!!!
300 prc is so you don’t need to reload to shoot larger bullets plus it’s designed better chamber more like a competition rifle. You have to reload to get the same bullets in a 300 win mag.
Can't wait to see you break out an energy chart for how many ponies these things have at 1,000 and a mile.
I often hear people say "Oh this round is flatter than that round" and I just want to ask them "At what range?" .. you see it in the first graph between the 300WM and the 300PRC. The WM starts out flatter but as the distance gets greater and the PRCs energy retention comes into play, the PRC starts to get flatter. (That energy retention can really be seen in a later graph showing which ones are still supersonic at a mile)
Side note. Thank you for including the Outfitter ammo in this test. I hunt close to federal land and often have to cross said federal land when going to deer camp. With the new restrictions on lead bullets I've been looking into using the Outfitter this year.

A very good ethical question is raised here, even nonchalantly. I certainly don't hunt to 1,000 yards. I use public land that is heavily forested. Most times, I am lucky to look through branches as far as 100 yards. Farthest sight line I have ranged for a shot is 225 yards. So, way less than even 750 yards. I feel comfortable with my skill and sight picture to 300 yards, my arbitrary number for the start of long distance. And in most places where I hunt, that is going to be sufficient.
In my state, there is also a lottery system to win hunts that are not on your regular game tag. For example, in a high plains canyon state park, they will set it up for compartment hunting of mule deer. That is, you will stay within one area and pretty much shoot in one direction. They tell you in the hunt package that you can expect frozen conditions, rugged camping and hiking. And that you could be making 200 yard shots. So, if your ethics forbids you from shooting past 100 yards, don't sign up for it. Why that far? Turns out that on the high plains and desert there are not a lot of trees to hide in or behind. It also turns out that mule deer get older by being skiddish. So, for the most part, you do not get a mule deer by putting salt on his tail.
My round of choice is the .308 W, which is fine for my short to medium range hunting. My particular round is still above 1,000 ft-lbs until almost 500 yards. Very comfortable recoil, 2,800 fps, this barrel is going to last a really long time. And if it does eventually burn out, it is not a hardship to replace it. At 500 yards, I would be dialing 11.3 MOA.
These other rounds are great at long distance but they also have higher MV, maybe minimal free bore. The barrel may not last as long. Which is okay if you have other priorities. Of these, it would be tempting to stay with the 7 mm Rem Mag, even over the new gee whiz 7 m m PRC. Though I could see using the 7 PRC for competitions where you are, indeed, trying to take out the x at 1k yards. In which case, consistent drop is most important and you really need to handload. And for that, you have to take the time to match slug weights and charge weights. If those are consistent, your MV will only vary by a few fps. That is what I saw someone else do, not me. Why 7 mm RM? It is as nearly prevalent as .30-06 ammo and rifle choices. My favorite makers already make that. And at least one rifle maker I have bought, Mossberg, is now making the 7 PRC. My only problem with that is the stock for Patriot and Patriot Predator. I think the stock allows movement of the rear of the action, which allows for errors. Assume that if you get one from them, you are immediately putting it in a chassis or some kind of bedded stock. Even a Boyd's with pillar bedding or glass bedding is going to be better.

One other area that connects this data is the sectional densities of the loads that you've listed together with the velocities achieved in each case. As I am sure you already know you can arrive at the sectional densities by dividing the bullet weights (in grains) by 7,000 and then dividing that answer by the bullet diameter squared. This gives you an apples to apples comparison of the resistance encountered by the propellant for a given projectile weight when bearing surface and jacket (or the bullets themselves, in the case of monolithics) lubricity parameters are very closely correlated. Obviously, this is also closely related to the propellant burn rate and pressure-time curve and expansion ratio, which is simply the ratio of cartridge/chamber volume versus the total gun volume when you factor in the appropriate barrel length volume that is the complement parameter. It's probably somewhat surprising that the 7mm can pretty well keep up with the rest except for the 212 ELD which is where the sectional densities are kicking in! As noted, you are getting more thought provoking all the time. Again, your graphics pointing these attributes out were very nicely done. Keep up the good work and keep your powder dry WTW (humidity when doing load development is a crucial factor)!

In Canada, we have a plethora of ammunition availability in 300 PRC, but unfortunately the cost of rifles and ammo for that matter are quite high!

Have a Bergara b14 hmr in 6.5 prc and it is a fine cartridge.
i wanted to get a 300 win mag and just push the rifling forward to fit a longer bullet
but then the barrel twist wouldn't be tight enough to spin that bullet
so really the Howa 300 prc is going to be my next purchase
I hate being tied down to a rare cartridge, but, seems fun as hell!

I found some 156 grainers for 6.5 CreedMoor...it was a single box of S&B's Soft Points 156 grainers at my local GS, I've never seen anything over 147 grains for 6.5cm...hoping 1/8 twist will stabilize that heavy boolot...if so should be fantastic deer/hog rounds... Should be interesting to see what the CreedMoor will do with the heavier boolot
They will definitely stabilize because they're soft points and probably have a fatter profile.
@@nomad_philosophy yeah they do have a flatter profile on the nose of the bullet, I'll be taking them to the range hopefully tomorrow, we'll see how they do, I'm hoping they group decently, if so then I'll be trying them out on hogs, if they hold a decent group and do well on hogs, then I'll be buying a bunch of these for sure
You know they just came out with a 7MM PRC Round! And the case is NOT belted like the 7MM mag or 300 WM! The biggest Difference in ALL the PRC rounds is NOT the Bullet, But the chamber if the respective rifle! ALL of the PRC Rifles come REALLY close to being a MATCH Grade Barrel/Chambers(if not AT whats considered a MATCH Grade Barrel/chamber! I have been reading about the New 7MM PRC round and Just Watched Ron Spoomer go over that round. Sounds like a GREAT Round! And according to Mr. Spoomer this Rounds RULES them ALL!

Well I like a 30 06 it has not let me down 400 yards no problem. A freind of mind used it to take down a bear with one shot . I have taken a deer at 450 yards with no problem.

I have the 7mag and 6.5 prc have taken bucks with both and they hit hard.. but not at long range only up to 250 yards.7 mag I’ve used 162 eld x and 145 lrx. The 6.5 prc I’ve only used hammer bullets and it did great. Awesome data u got there
You saying the 7mm don't hit hard at 250? BULLSHIT 😂 Your comparing 2 pretty different rounds. The 7mag and 300 win mag are way "bigger" calipers in how they perform the 7mm and 300 one would confidently shoot a whitetail or big game at 350-650 yards all day. They're tried and true the 7 mag has killed a lot of animals at alot of big distances

Take all 4 of these get a buooo-lot sponsor and head on over to Halfmile and meet him at that long range range.
Now it would also be awesome if you had someone also custom load rounds for each rifle and throw this into the mix.
Now this could turn into a 4 or 5 video series if you work it out right.
So you have different shooters hopefully at least 2 of each rifle and a handful of loads...
This would throw even 10x's if not more data at your charts.
This might even warrant a 2 hour live in the middle of it all.
But this would require a lot of set up, planning and even finding the right person to make custom loads.
Example a buddy of mine I loaded with had the same 300win mag as only differences were colors of stocks and about a year apart in manufacturing.
We both had different loads to make the same outcome.

The 7mm rem mag has been proven for 50yrs these new prc are just the lastest attempt to revitalize the market and sales just like all of the short mags did. If you want to spend more money and get into the 1100yrd shot nonsense then by all means, and when people wound animals and cant even tell if they were hit well you got caught up in the hype. I've filled my freezer for decades with 7mm mag and 30-06 and the meat was delicious!

I would add Alaska hunting I was amazed how far hunting took place with not enough time to get close. My guns were set at a 200 yd zero so not a total o but I did get 1 carabou .

I been curious about the 6.5 PRC because I'd like to have a light hunting rifle that doesn't kick any harder than a 270 basically same specs between the rifles but at distance it should out perform a 270
I swapped from .270 to the 6.5 prc. At regular hunting distances the trajectory is the almost identical. Energy is where the prc outshines the .270.
The 6.5 & 7mm PRC maybe the rounds of the future BUT when you look at the price of the Rifles and ammo in these PRC class ..I may be wrong !!

I just check the safe for bull lots. I have 2 boxes Hornaday precision hunter 30-378 220 gr ELD-X. Yes 220 grain
I still have case of Sierra 30 Cal. 308 DIA 240 gr match king HPBT. Just for shooting steel at 500 or 1000 only the match king for steel. The Hornady 220 gr. Long range big game hunting

Comparing drop on significantly different bullet weights is not a fair comparison. It's true that the PRC drops less than the 300 WM and the 7mm, but the bullet is significantly heavier, meaning at that same 1000 yards it will deliver more energy.
This is why the only new one that is tempting is the 7prc to replace my 7mmRM

@@Wickedtrucker75 the 308 and 30-06 are not 1,000 yard guns, not even close. They're going to peter out anything out past 450. The 7 mag and 300 and double the gun of them both, esp the 30-06. Go to a precision match or long range hunt and see how many people are using a 308 or 30-06. The 7 mag and 300 are 2 of your top contenders and are of the more "serious" caliber. All your big guides and pros are gonna have 7 mags and 300s or even 338s which is in even another league. The 7mm prc isn't going to be nothing drastically different. Yes a hair better but not much. I personally own the 6.5 and 300 prc and load for them both and I can do about what they'll do with a good load with your typical 7 or 300 or even 7 short. But overall it's common long range knowledge the 30-06 and 308 are in a much "lower" category than the 7 mag or 300. The 2 don't even compare to there much better shooting big brothers.
@@Wickedtrucker75 and as far as knockdown power yes they do have that but out past 400ish mehhhhhh. 30-06 and 308 are almost looked at as like a 30-30 now just brush guns compared to others really.
@@Wickedtrucker75 even go on CZcams and watch your big game hunters that are out there living eating and breathing hunting, from wolf to moose and bear elk etc, not one of them are hardly using a 30-06 and maybe very few running 308s 99% of those guys that do it that much are running 7 mags or 300s but the 30-06 and 08 are definitely legendary in their own way, they just don't compete when you got to make them shots across big revenes,hollows, ridge to ridge etc.
Isn't the BC mostly an indication of the windage from side to side ?
I would imagine velocity can adequately deal with drop...
A vullet less affected by cross winds would make vetter since to prioritize... Which in that case, the 300 PRC is head and sboulders over the rest.
another thought if aa sniper was to engage a target a mile or more away-they will use the 338Lapua or a 50BMG as opposed to 308 or 300Win mag.

This is not as important but I think the ELDM PRC are transonic at 1 mile. They are above Mach 1, but just barely. Under M1.2 is transonic and I think people say that’s bad. Off the top of my head the 300 PRC is above M 1.2 out to 1500-1600ish yards. The best Hand load 230 gr A Tip can get to 1730-1740 yards at Mach 1.2, just shy of 1 mile. Hand load 7 PRC can do truly supersonic 1.2 Mach + out to 1 mile.
Need to balance the drop with the energy as you say!

Adam, why don't you use G7 drag function BCs instead of G1. True, there's no big difference in supersonic range between these two, but still G7 is more precise. Keep up good work!👍💯

Cartridge doesn’t matter as long as the BC and the muzzle velocity are the same guess what they shoot the same. It’s true some cases are designed better/ more efficient mv’s and bc’s are the real deal

I’ll stay with the 300 win mag .60 inch (at 100 yards) groups and have had it out to 1000 yards. I don’t really shot at game past 600 anyways so 300 win mag is my weapon. B-14 all the way

Why not just put a barrel with a faster twist rate on a 300 win mag? Wouldn't that work out just as well? In fact wouldn't it be better with a 250 grin bullet than a standard .338 win mag? same weight bullet just longer.
If you load for 7 mm remington mag, you can and will smoke all these cartriges at a mile. 175 grain berger match or elite hunter at a bc of .656 at 3000 fps. Yeah. It beats all the prc's including the 7prc.

I have the 300 Remington ultra mag Personally I prefer it over the 300 prc I thought in one of your other videos you had the 300 ultra mag If so do aside by side comparison between the 300 Rome and the 300 PRC That would be awesome
