🏰 A Disney fan’s hub for all Walt Disney news today!
If you’re looking for exclusive Disney news or want to experience the inside of the Disney parks, then you’re in the right place. The magic is just a click away! 🚀
For over 16 years, WDW News Today has been your go-to for all things Disney - news, podcasts, radio, and video. We've had a blast sharing our love for Disney, and it's all thanks to our dedicated audience that we're now the best website for Disney Parks News worldwide.
The old epcot attraction murals are nice but kinda messed up because if their aware of how much fans love them why do they keep removing them.
Me seeing the fountain of nations “well, I guess there’s that wound freshly reopened”
What? Why? Huh? Affordable flex space for a bad wedding? Inadequate airport terminal entry area? The community college without an architecture/ design program student center? Sigh…
This is just as exciting as the trees tables and benches by connections. Epic Universe will be complete in the less time than this.
This is a joke right? Jesus. All that work for THIS.
Even worse it is at Epcot where there are so many food options already
Good thing they got those outdoor tables ready for the scorching hot summer.
It's so exciting the Imagineering hired the best from the Hilton and Marriott design team. Looks like the inside of every convention space at a mid level hotel in the country. Only redeeming factor is the murals.
"No thank you. I want to be in the line" only Tom.
Our fearless leader
Love the mural!
This is the big reveal? After how many years of “WallCot” this is what we get! Other than the meet and greet i don’t even know what i saw. I don’t think i will want to STAND at an outside table in the Florida heat or thunder storms. I really don’t think Walt would have approved this.
I love the mural as you walk to see the in person characters. It’s so Mary Blair infused and mid century modern. It fits the building architecture perfectly.
The ambient music inside is nice from the bit we can hear. The murals with the callbacks to the old EPCOT were a heart tug. Lighting is impressive... but overall, not impressed. What is this area for when their isn't a festival going on?
Five years and we got a garden and a food court 🤔
Facts.
Who cares on how long it took just have fun. Like seriously who cares? Just have a great time
Oh ffs. A _global pandemic_ happened in those five years that _completely halted_ construction for months and then slowed it because of reduced crew sizes for safety once things reopened.😐
@@kriscynicalyeah but universal is building a whole theme park in about same amount of time, maybe even less.
. @@caryrae73 I deleted my original reply because it was a jumbled mess. This is ridiculously long, but I'm being very specific here.
What OP and you are both neglecting to consider are size, scope, and amount. It wasn't five years for JUST a building and a garden area.
_The majority of Future World_ was torn up, demolished, or repurposed through this whole project. That's damn near half the park.
🔹We got the extensive new outdoor areas that used to be the concrete wasteland between Spaceship Earth and the Fountain of Nations.
🔹We got Creations, Connections Café, Connections Eatery, and the new Club Cool.
🔹We got the whole Moana area.
🔹We got the restored fountain and removal of the Leave A Legacy monuments in front of Spaceship Earth.
🔹We got the new LEDs on Spaceship Earth.
🔹And LASTLY, we got Communicore Plaza, more garden area, and an outdoor stage venue.
And that's not even taking into account the time it took for demo that had to be done carefully enough to not destroy the structures that were staying put. That was tight quarters when it came to demo of Innoventions West.
As for Epic Universe? It's literally a third of the size of Epcot at 110 acres vs. 305. Again, almost half of Epcot was torn up.
Lastly, Universal hasn't had to deal with DeSantis playing political theater with them because he was butthurt over a Disney press release. His target was literally Disney's means of filing permits and handling the civic parts of the construction, Reedy Creek. That slowed everything even more.
I'm sorry for the novel but there wasn't a way to be brief and correctly define the size and scope of what's been happening for the last five years. To basically say "in five years we got a garden and a food court while universal built an entire park" is an inaccurate comparison to say the least.
I don't want a park that's built _fast._ I want a park that's built _well._
It looks good, but has little substance. That’s the new Disney way. You should have seen the original Communicore.
I saw the old Communicore and this looks really nice.
@@A113100 it’s a giant beer kiosk.
Looks better you mean. They need more than just look better.
Did Tom actually go to Epcot or just stay in the airport terminal?
I love that it has this bringing people together feel. Afterall community is in the title.
Thats just the Disney management team and execs congratulating themselves for this amazing new space that everyone will love. (insert sarcastic look)
I don't get why they do murals of extinct attractions if they have no intention of bringing them back. Particularly the Fountain of Nations, that's just a tease. I like it though, but I just don't get it. Disney gives weird mixed signals to fans.
Bank on nostalgia until everyone forgets, and then just paint over it with newer attractions! The Epcot way
@@DISstockmagic Or improve it. The Fountain of Nations was both great and terrible. It inhibited flow, especially when fountain shows were going on. It also contributed to the feeling that Epcot was a concrete jungle. I never loved it as someone that has gone to Epcot since 1983 as a 5 year old. The fountain was cool for a while, but by the 1980s it was just a pain getting around it. Also incredibly expensive to maintain and something that just disrupted the flow. That said, would definitely like to have some water in the center of the hub but I have never understood why people liked that fountain so much.
@FlyRick78 why would people love a beautiful fountain the likes of which they have probably never seen before? Hmmm it is a mystery.
the horizons referencing is everywhere, disney just hates us man😭😭😭
The hall looked much more like an abandoned airport terminal today.
been trying to put my finger on what it reminded me of, thats it. lol
I don’t understand what this space is supposed to be. It looks like a convention hall for rent.
Someone at Disney said hey, I got and Idea! You know that Odyssey building and that Millennium Village building we never know what to do with? Lets build another one of those!
I was about to say the same thing…like what is the point of this🤷🏼♀️
It's supposed to be a flex space for the different festivals throughout the year. Because that's what Epcot is apparently all about now according to Disney
It suppose to be but it doesn't even look like a good convention hall. Who in the right mind would want to have a convention in that kind of building? Cause its Disney? Please, many other convention halls in the US look way much better than this.
It looks like ikea 🤦🏾♂️
I get the meet and greet, but what is the inside space? I don't really get it.
Festival Favorites (edibles), beverage stands, places to sit whilst enjoying Festivals. Air Conditioned seating in Florida Blistering sun
Lol air conditioning? Really people? That used to be called indoor attractions, shops, and restaurants.
What would have been awesome was to have those things such as the fountain of nations actually existing instead of just part of a mural
Love those murals! 🥰👌💙
Tom narrating a new area of Epcot is exactly what I needed on a Monday. As they say at the resorts: "Tom..welcome home."
Looks nice. Can’t wait to experience and hang out.
How many years did they take for this waste of space ? Was better before.
That big long hall, communicore? Looks like nearly every recently built high school cafeteria.
It's amazing and the most fun anyone can have on vacation....right?
Waiting in line to see Disney characters has become an attraction. That’s one of the worst things Disney has done. Build an attraction for goodness sakes, the magic of seeing characters unexpectedly at Walt Disney World is gone. Bring back some of the older Imagineers to teach and mentor the younger ones, they need it desperately.
5 years.....for what exactly?
So they basically built something to walk past.
Meeting them separately? I liked having them together...
Top marks for the Mickey & Friends area. The rest of the area is serviceable. The outside seems nicer than the bland interior
Fancy new Epcot character meet & greet spot, Love It!!!!!
I think current imagineering is more like “ does anyone have any cheap ideas- aneering.”
They finally finish it! And the interior and exterior looking good like a Convention Center. The meet n greet is a good bonus too!
What is this space? Is it a banquet hall ?
Looks like the connections shop without the merchandise 😂🤣
Minnie would be a good host for Let’s Make a Deal. She has the right moves to show off what’s behind door number 3.
More bars get people drunk at epcot
glad its finally open it looks really nice i love the meet and greet area super cute, i thought donald was supposed to be in there though??
Yes it a flexspace for event and festivals, it frees the space off the worldshowcase pavillion so you can add a merry poppins attaction. That was the plan then covid happend
So a big empty room, and a meet and greet. What exactly took 5+ years? It looks nice, but wow... talk about disappointing.
Thanks for the video. Its a bit disappointing though. All that space and not much in it. Sad what it has become, especially compared to what was there.
Well, there’s going to be crowds so
@@brodytamanini2713 oh sure. 50 people is a crowd.
@@GI876758 sure tell yourself that. Question do you cry yourself to sleep at night?
Looks like Innoventions without the tall windows. Way to go Disney. You tore down a great building that could have been repurposed -- you know sustainability -- only to rebuild part of it.
Not everything has to be the same thing. Just grow up. There’s a lot to love here and just have fun. We as a community of theme park enjoyers just forgot the meaning of fun.
Ffs that's what they did with Connections in Innoventions East so I'm sure there are technical/engineering reasons why it was more effective to rebuild for West.
The ceiling is much lower in there, too, which will save conservation-wise on heating and cooling without those cavernous ceilings and wall to wall windows. It's a smaller space all around, and I think part of the old footprint is being used for the outdoor stage now (I haven't seen a map but that building is MUCH smaller than Innoventions West).
I _loved_ that old Innoventions building. It had some "secret bathrooms" that we frequented as well as that sitting area in the back, but times change. Let it go. I swear some people are never happy no matter what Disney does.
Yay! Low ceilings!
@@brodytamanini2713 Not everything should be 'just good enough' instead build something mind blowing to keep people coming in. If this is the standard of Disney today like you on 'being good enough', then they will continue to bleed money.
@@GI876758 I literally never said that. I’m saying that things don’t have to be the most amazing incredible thing ever. It’s a cute fun area that fits in modern Epcot. So no not everything has to be the big expansion.
What Can Fix Today's Center Part of EPCOT is to Close Journey into Imagination with Figment for Good and Change it to Something that is Related to the Original.
I bet that the murals are decals.
I guess I was expecting more indoor tables. Just an FYI, people using EVC don't enjoy standing at a table. I personally am not fond of leaping into my seat to sit at a high top table.
Appreciate the colors and fun murals.
So... this is for conference?? where is theme?
Why didn't Disney open it during a festival and then they could have filled the space with stalls, information points and demonstrations.
I’ve seen airports, urban food halls, and college campus center buildings with more creativity and life than this.
It’s cool but it not have all the same stuff from the old one!
Even Though I Liked the Old Mickey & Friends Meet & Greet Better (I Am Talking about the EPCOT Character Spot), This One is Pretty with Murals of Defunct EPCOT Attractions.
Definitely not some exciting new attraction. Yet, it is a nice space that is much needed. Especially since it would seem it’s always festival season at EPCOT. The homages are nice and colorful throughout. Tom didn’t show us much from the west side of the area, though it looks to be a nice green space.
That indoor space is average at best. Will be interesting to see how the space is used. However I do like the outdoor stage area. I’m hoping there will be a lot of great live entertainment and events in that space.
I love all the throw-backs to the OG EPCOT!
It seems very empty...what is the purpose of this hall? Will there be things added? The space doesn't seem great for how long it took.
Did I miss the demonstration kitchen? Or does that get set-up as needed? Really hoping the Food & Wine Festival events return.
There is a kitchen equipped with cameras and lighting that was being used as food service last night.
@@WDWNT Thank you!!!
Same ceilings as creation shop in the NEW “hall”-really? And strip lights? At least Mickey knew about “the Horizon’s butler.”
It seems today that all we see is budget cuts all across Disney. But where are those realized concepts and ideas? Only at Tokyo Disney Sea!
Ah, looks nice...but it's just a conventional convention space-stage to host festivals/booths. I guess that's needed.....
7383 years for that? Great…
Universal is making a new park, and the mouse is doing this lol 😂
It’s an update. Maybe if you stop comparing things you would have a great time. Universal doesn’t really update their parks like this. Every park has their own differences and universal has way less to worry about.
Forget comparing to Universal. Disney needs to give something mind blowing for people to come, so far they are not doing it.
@@brodytamanini2713 Update of nothing. Tokyo Disney Resort's Fantasy Springs is called an update. New area, new high quality rides and themes by Disney's own imagineers and tech btw. Sure every park has their own differences, but it doesn't have to be 'just ok', it signifies lack of passion.
@@brodytamanini2713 but Epcot and other Disney parks not fun anymore
@@rust3927 shut up the parks are practically the same as they were before just with modern updates that are really good with new additions. And don’t even say stuff like Universal is good because their parks are much worse. Islands is good but is flawed but universal Florida is not good. And even though I say that about the park, it’s still fun. It’s a theme park. You’re supposed to have fun. Sorry if something was not the second coming of Christ like damn
Epcot is so nice.
The mural is very pretty, there needs to be more of that spread amongst the parks.
This new boondoggle of a bland cafeteria with a meet & greet ain’t got nothing on the new cafeteria at Ringling College of Art & Design over in Sarasota !
And I’ve heard that RCAD’s old one was pretty sad.
No need to go back to WDW. I’ve seen all there is that’s worth seeing and at this rate, ever again. 😢 But now I can instead put my 💵 towards my parent loans for RCAD.
So commun icier hall is just another food selling place. Like we need more food in EPCOT .
Wow!!
awesome! great to see!!
So they’ve built an empty building? And it took 6 years. Honestly sure, whatever.
Love the characters- they are wonderful
Clearly Tom's returned from Japan for a few days. Thanks for the tour, Tom.
Buc-ee’s > World Celebration
Facts
Possible work in progress
I love how energetic all the characters are 🥰
Ummm Epic Universe please…
its so lacking, but i REALLY appreciate the background/area music. very reminiscent of 80s & 90s epcot. its just kinda empty and soulless. but then again, what part of epcots new aesthetic has any soul anyway lol
communicore hall setting needs to change
I’ll give it this, at least it has more colors than connections or the Polynesian dvc tower. But like it just feels like a place they built to host private parties for rich folks and also make people think they care about old Epcot through some paintings. Are those painting or are they dcals? Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the later. And oh look a lightning lane for a meet and great thanks Disney for reminding me and other disabled folks that we no longer get das. The cast members are the only sincerely good thing here as always.
Looks like the Epcot transformation is officially done
Hidden goofy love it
It’s just a restaurant and live entertainment space?
The architecture and art are fine, but the flex space is pretty generic. I think Disney has lost the ability to go 100% on projects these days. The old Disney would have built a festival flex space where you walk through a waterfall into a giant cave with rockwork on the floors and walls and ceilings.
The whole thing looks poorly conceived and shows very little flair and imagination. Even the character meet and greet is a sterile unwelcoming space.
Why WDW keep building exhibitions? We want beauty&beast ride, zootopia land, marvel land… WDW management need to be refreshed.
Looks great!
Umm they should have never released the original failed plans for the awe inspiring raised garden concept. This looks basic cheap, nothing impressive about it.
Disney World: raising prices and cutting corners.
Wow what a lackluster piece of wasted space. You did it again, Disney. Keep on blowing our minds while making us wait forever for nothing.
I guess…. I just don’t understand what it is?!?! Like idk how this is going to add any value to my day in the parks…
Sooooo whats so different it ooks like everything else 🤷
Sooo that’s it 😅
I’ve seen way more impressive design and detail at the temporary booths inside corporate conferences like CES and Mobile World Congress. I’m so embarrassed for Disney, its actually sad.
Innoventions R.I.P. I can't believe this is what we get after all this time....This is pathetic.
My local mall/town center is nicer and more themed than this.
Journalists wear bucket hats and Minnie ears?
Five years to demolish and rebuild what is functionally the same building
LAME!
On a scale of 1 to impressed, I give this, like most of "new" EPCOT, a very strong meh.
And if I had to rate your life on a scale from 1 to impressed, I would give it a very strong meh
For us Disneylanders (West coast) its EPCOT or bust...
At long last Epcot transformation it's now complete
Seeing that crowd stepping on top of each other just to get inside on a preview is why we will never get anything more than mediocrity at WDW. For people/ Disney fans to get this excited for what looks like a watered down food court is a joke. For this to be the final piece of the puzzle for the EPCOT Future World makeover is beyond underwhelming. I had minimal expectations for this area, but after seeing this video it looks to not even meeting those expectations.
