  • @tedfrommarketing3135

    The problem with a low cost line-skip is that because of the price point, it makes it pretty much mandatory to buy one. Having a higher price line-skip is actually a good thing because it means less people buy it, which means standby line moves a little quicker and it doesn't feel like it's required.

    • @Momcircus

      This! If “everyone” has a fast pass, then no one has one. Cast members take 9 LL guests for every 1 standby guest, making the stand by lines excruciating

    I understand this doesn’t affect you guys but there are a LOT of guests each year from international destinations and with this, unlike with FastPass+, you are not able to pre-book your Lightning Lanes until you actually step foot in the US. So you don’t get the 7 day advantage if you’re staying on property. You don’t even get the 3 day advantage. You’re left with the dregs that are available on the day you arrive. More needs to be made of this and Disney needs to sort it out. The old system allowed ticket holders from anywhere to pre-book so why doesn’t Lightning Lane?

    My understanding is, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but International guests staying on property DO NOT have access to this system until we are on US soil which means we can't book anything until the day before or day of. How is this fair, there is no perk for us? At least with Genie+ we were all on equal footing. Because they changed the DAS system I no longer qualify for DAS so I was really counting on Genie+ but if International guests can't book until we arrive on US soil and everything good is booked there is no point for me to go to Disney. • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B Před měsícem +21

    Tom I really don't feel like Genie+ being cheaper than the competition is really a benefit though, I find it as a net negative unless you are dead set that you're going to pay for the service. I have never seen "skip the line" affect standby queue as much at any other park than I have at Disney resorts, yeah it's more expensive at Universal, or Cedar Fair parks, etc, but no where do I see 6+ LL people go for every 1 guest in standby on such a consistent basis, sure you may get a rush of people on a particular ride at other parks, but once that rush is over it's over, at Disney parks that LL queue just gobbles people up who get reminders from their phone that it's time to go and they get in line walking straight past everyone who's had concrete poured over their feet aka standby line.
    Yes, you still have standby, and you will have an absolutely horrible experience as a resort, you paid to get into the park just like everyone else, but drawing a line in the sand to not pay an extra $30 should not be punished this harshly. Disney simply overbooks LL reservations too damn much, that 6:1 ratio I mentioned earlier that translates to 86% of the ride capacity goes to LL, that is beyond wrong. Disney does it because they feel that they have a financial responsibility to those who pay for the service as you can see by people who lined up to complain about not getting reservations, where as if you pay for the entry and complain that every ride was well over an hour wait, they give you a blank stare and tell you that you can buy Genie+ to save time, yeah that actually happened to me my last trip over 2 years ago, which is why it was my last trip.

  • @rb5078
    @rb5078 Před měsícem +46

    Here is my perspective as someone who has never been to Florida: with Universal you buy one extremely expensive ticket but then you basically walk on to every attraction and never have to look at your phone.
    Disney World seems to require an advanced degree in order to understand how everything works. I’ve been researching Genie+ for about six weeks in preparation for my first trip and now they are changing the whole thing a week before my vacation and I am STRESSED. There won’t be enough time for me to research everything before I have to start booking. It also means I have to wake up at 4am (on the west coast) to book lightning lanes for my entire week stay. I don’t want to book LL in advance. I want to go with the flow and see where the day takes me. I have a park hopper ticket and was just planning to decide which parks I would rope drop on which days as I was going along. Now I feel like I have to pre plan everything. I hated booking dining reservations 60 days out because who knows where I’ll be or what I’ll want to eat two months from now? I ended up canceling all those dining reservations because of that.
    Why not just give resort guests three LL per day that they can use on any attraction? And then just book one LL at a time throughout your day after that? No advanced planning or strategy required.

    • @Momcircus
      @Momcircus Před měsícem +7

      I understand your frustration and also would like it if Disney would do what Universal does.
      Our family travels to Disney World at least once a year.
      I would recommend that you try to rebook your dinning reservations. Some of the restaurants are difficult to get into while at the parks without a reservation.
      You can always cancel them up to two hours before.
      We like to have a sit down meal once a day and just have a snack or quick service for others. It's nice to have a break from the heat and relax for an hour or so while at the parks.
      While it would be nice to be able to be spontaneous and go with the flow (you can do this but) if you want to minimize wait times for rides and dining IMHO it's better to embrace what Disney is and try and schedule things in advance.
      If you have any questions about your upcoming trip feel free to ask. Maybe I can help.😀 I like to think I know how to do Disney World pretty well.

      Once I figured out how the genie plus worked it wasn't too bad. So for us next year we will be doing 5 nights at Universal then a couple of nights at clearwater and finally doing 12 nights at Disney so I will be able to take advantage when we are in the US. If you are doing 2 weeks at Disney only as soon as you get to the US you should be able to select for the whole of your stay if onsite so just pay for later days you will have more options in. If offisite don't buy it for the first few days and just buy it for 3 days ahead so the same as those in the US. You don't need to buy it everyday really. To say Disney "listened" is to encourage and embolden the current managements continued and non stop poor decisions. When Guests ACCEPT this kind of up-charge (or Park changes) as acceptable you are just encouraging them to continue this kind of management behavior. Stop settling - hold Disney to the HIGH standard it's founder set!! The days of Disney being Guest oriented ended 2 decades ago. Fast Pass was never free. It was just part of what you received when you paid for your park ticket prior to COVID. Many visitors made use of it and many did not.
      Disney decided they wanted to raise park tickets significantly but did not want the price increase to discourage too many guests… going from $80 / day to almost $140 / day would do that for many people.
      So they divided their guests into affluent and non-affluent groups and charged what they believe is the maximum amount each group will tolerate in price increases.
      Over time Disney will see diminishing attendance from both groups as the vacation experience value for the cost is not the same as it was before COVID.
      In short Disney killed its own goose that laid the golden egg.

      I would think the extra perk is that you are so much closer to the parks that you literally can leave the park to go back to the resort if you need a break, and then right back in later if you want, at least for Disneyland parks, the bus system and distance to parks makes it a bit more difficult to pull off at WDW resorts without losing a big chunk of time to travel.
      But more to your point, the extra perks used to be extra magic hours, back when you got either an extra hour before the park opened to others to a bonkers extra THREE hours after everyone else had to leave(at WDW at least), oh yeah if you needed to park... it was FREE. But unfortunately for the consumer Disney felt that they shouldn't have to give you anything that actually costs them any money, so they happily gave you the ability to make reservations earlier... weeeee 🙄

    I don’t mind that resort guests get priority booking, I mind that now during my trip I have to book 3 days ahead of each park day, when with Fast Pass at least I was at home doing this. So it’s not the resort guest priority it’s the duration of the booking, means I’ll be doing it on my trip, which is in my opinion worse than Genie bc I have to think about a different day than the day I’m approaching. I wish it was even 14 and 7 days, because at 3 days I’m always going to be booking a park day while I’m going to a park.

    When Disney created the fastpass I knew at the time that the sole purpose was to charge money to ride attractions. I think that the only reasons that they didn't do it sooner was because of the slowdowns after 9/11 and the great recession respectively, don't believe they were being altruistic.

    The ONLY thing I understand from the change is dropping the genie-plus name,,,
    And now it's ALL just called
    'Lightning Lane - Stubs;; my AMC WALLET.....
    designed by Igerbot' .
    😁

    For the raised prices you pay for admission, resorts, etc. at Disney the passes should be free for guests or at least resort guests sorry.

      In an ideal world sure. But you also could give them no money and just get in standby.

      @@WDWNTwaiting in sometimes 60 minutes + for a couple minutes attraction is no fun especially if you come with a big family with kids. An ideal world would be bring back the old Disney World the days when everything wasn’t so difficult and just about money. The change with the passes are heading in the right direction, but offering them free won’t break their bank just families.

    Disney has made it almost impossible for families who have children with unseen disabilities. My now 4 yr old has a severe type one diabetes , where his sugar levels are so unmanageable and unpredictable. Simply being in the sun/heat for periods of time raises him blood sugar levels that can send him a coma (this is even with the proper insulin dosage ) . At those high levels his whole mental state is uncontrolled and it’s a miserable experience for us and the families who have to stand around us and listen to a toddler have a medical meltdown down and panicked parents . the DAS pass was our only saving grace to have an enjoyable experience at the parks. We get that some ppl abuse it yes . But you hurt the families who extremely need it . We are heading down for the Christmas party and we’re already mentally exhausted.

      I mean is this not slightly dramatic? You are still waiting in the line which can still be as long as the standby sometimes.

      @@CampbellzS0upI'll kind of agree. I have two family members with diabetes, and to say you slip into a coma just by standing in the sun is over dramatic and hard to believe. I don't even think diabetes is considered a disability.

      I've been denied DAS for T1D ever since it was instituted. I was told it was explicitly excluded. DAS would have absolutely helped, but we've coped. I always have short and long acting carbs with me, as well as plenty of water. CGM has been a game changer, but before that, I did lots of finger sticks in line. We only go during winter; it still gets hot, but not debilitating.

    That brush fire effect might have been broken since the 90s or early 2000s. Cuz I don't remember that being a part of the ride. Cool that it's back.

    I am excited Disney did listen. I agree Tom your being so positive and we agree what to much on this one :) As for the "new fastPass" I am holding off because we have seen no information on cost. Menu changes are reflected of the cost of food-- whatever Disney can do for cheap and charge $$$.
