- I will share with you 3 ways that I grow PEACE LILY to maximize it as part of the water filter in my fish tanks, and answer the questions:
- how many plants do I need?
- How do I know if it’s really working as a water filter?
- Does it help the BIOLOGICAL FILTER in my tank?

That planter box idea is brilliant!
Can you plz do top 10 house plants for fish tank or that could be put on the fish tank ty it will be helpful
Absolutely! This is a video that I plan on doing .Thanks for the input!
@@plantlifeproject Looking forward to that one!!!
Definitely do that, your big tank looks amazing with those plants
Yes please!
I've been doing this for years my specialty is the plants in the filter I'm currently re-growing 2 carrots 2 umbrella palm cuttings 4 coffee plants and a hand full of pothos just in my 2 filters on my 55 gallon Rivulatus and convict cichlids tank. I'm so glad I discovered another plant minded aquarium channel 🙌
That is awesome!
Hey I’m gonna transfer my Oscar fish polar convict 2 silver dollars and two plecos in a 150 gallon I wanna know what plants I could use that are affordable but what substrate especially to use I’ve never dealt with live plants
I appreciate how you narrate your videos. You talk clearly and get right to the point with the objectives/goals of the video. I find many CZcams DIY videos have a lot of unnecessary, introductory chatter.
Thanks so much for the input! Blessings!
I'm obsessed with seeing roots in my tank I'm definitely trying the peace lilly great video awesome tips!
Thanks soo much for your guidance .for da first time I put my peace lillys in water soon I.d be adding fish to it .am so madly excited
You're the man. Looking forward to your channel getting the traction it deserves
Thanks man!
Nicely done! Great ideas. Thank you so very much.
I also got a peace Lily in my fish tank and it is doing very well and with other plants too.
I just found your channel and subscribed. Looking forward to learning more from your videos!
I do it in my peace lily and it turn great.I thought I wouldn't make it..so far they are good.thanks for more info🥰God bless.
Thank you for the excellent information as I have been searching these plants to build my paludarium tank for awhile already
You are welcome!
Thank you for this video. Incredibly addition to my knowledge. I m beginner in live aquarium. Pls more videos on water plants and algae eating shrimps etc…!
This has become the channel I've been looking for.
Awesome, glad you found it and are enjoying it!
I love your videos, very educational much appreciate you and your time. Thank you
many THANKS highly appreciate this information!
Great video! I randomly came across a riparium video where there was a peace lily on top. It was interesting because I happen to have a mature peace lily that I'm growing in water. So I wanted to look for more videos that have peace lily or even other plants in aquarium and your channel has really great videos explaining these matters. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks!
I am a new subscriber, love your videos! Your tanks are stunning.
Thanks for the help man. Strait to the point witch good visuals.
You’re welcome!
Great video, I didn't know you can grow that plant directly in the substrate.
I just got peace lilies a month ago and they actually grow even better in water than in a pot. Roots will die off when transplanting though.
Brilliant upload, I breed Betta fish and have Peace Lily’s in all of my 20 gallon grow out tanks. I’m always looking for better ways to care for my plants and fish. Excellent channel.
Thanks for sharing 👍
I'm your 300th sub. Hope u prosper
Thank you!
I love those holders! i struggle holding the two huge peace lily i have...
I wish I can make like that's too..
It's so beautiful
Exactly the info I was looking for. Great tip with those crates. Just ordered some! Thanks!
Where did you order them from bro?
I would like to know where you're done from too because I wanna put a piece of late in delete in my aquarium so can you please let me know
I used cholla wood in there, the roots can attach to it. But any large media/rocks will do.
Very nice.
Pls make a vdo about spider plant, and how can i use it as like peace lily
I'm going to get one today
Excellent video however i have experimented at took it 1 step further and grew the same lily plant fully submerge underwater in my aquarium with no die off from leaves
Thank You.
You're welcome!
I did the old, 1 gallon betta bowl + peace lily combo for 15 years & the fish lived between 2-4 years each. I only had one that didn't make it 3 months because he'd been struggling since I got him from the store. I interacted with my fish every other day or so in order that they didn't end up neglected. The peace lilies exploded with growth - no substrate except smooth stone & glass pebbles. They just love the fish water.
The bettas would swim up in my hand & gently nibble & play around my fingers. They loved their flaring mirror too for exercise. I recently upgraded to a 9 gallon tank & the current guy (no experience in the bowl for him) just hangs around in a 1 gallon area anyway. /shrug He's got some snail & shrimp buddies hanging out in the rest of the tank that he doesn't bother. ^^
Thank you for this info 6:17
You’re welcome!
Very informative 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Another thought on managing Pothos, I just got a suction cup, cable tie and piece of velcro - Pothos are secure!
Hope it works for you!
Suction cups have not worked for me long term but it’s worth a try!
Basically Peace Lilly small plant(sapling).. leaves started getting brown at endings in aquarium..may I know the reason
i love your diy plant holder
where did u get the hooks though? the egg crate is easy to find
Thanks! the hooks are available on my store under

Andrew, Thanks for these videos. They have convinced us to try a Peace Lily in a 75-gallon tank. For the third way you listed to grow it, how do you mount it in the tank to keep them from moving or falling?
You can use a rubber coated gear tie to wrap around the lily and hook it to the tank rim. Or this is a good product too👉 Support Peace Lily in Aquarium! Poth-O-Carry LILY HOLDER #riparium #plantedtank #fishtank

Fact: A peace lily fully emerged and planted into the substrate will live and thrive, grow, pearl, and be an amazing filtration source for several months before wilting. Just replace the plant every few months if you don't want all that foliage growing out of the back and interfering with the light source
New sub sweet video. How many hours of light do your plants hanging out of the tank need?
Awesome, glad you like it! Anywhere from 6-12 is what I usually do. Check out this video.

Can you make a video how to make the basket that you put the peace lily in?
Yes, it is on my agenda!
Same question. Looking forward to that!
I put the roots in water, they didn't grow much. I put them in substrate and growing well submerged, one plant is reaching out to the surface. I think it gets best light.
Just done water test, zero ammonia and nitrate, and between 0 and .25 nitrite. Tank been running 6 weeks now.
Can I use it in koi fish tank are they safe?
Hello! I just saw this and your video on maximising growth of pothos in an aquarium. They were very informative. Do you use any liquid fertilisers in your aquarium?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! I do not use liquid fertilizer. The Pothos roots grow quickly and reach the substrate where they can have an abundance of nutrients! It is ok to use liquid fertilizer, I just prefer not to if it is not necessary.

I’ll give it a try. Wonder if other lillies, like canna lily, would work also.
Tropicanna works well for riparian growing! White calla Lily also. They just need plenty of light
I have canna and calla lily in an outdoor pond.
Can a small part of the peace lily stems near the roots be submerged as well? Or only the roots?
Yes they can. I have a peace lily planted about 6 inches under water in the tank substrate for over 2 years now and doing great. All leaves are above water except some new small leaves but they eventually grow up and out of the water.
someone said not to put the plant just right above the roots in water is that true and if not will it not hurt the stems or get them soggy eventually

I hear it’s best to trim off all roots that were grown in soil when moving them into water. Have you tried that method? Is it better than letting established roots rot in the tank? Thank you
Trimming roots doesn’t work well for me. Plants are slower to adapt and have had more die this way.
Can you please try to do that with a Calla, Zantedeschia. It looks to be part of the same family, but as it looks fancier I would guess that it went through some selection and cultivation.
Also it comes in a very large variety of colour and you can match it with the colour of your fish.
White calla Lily is a popular pond plant and could work in a Riparium. It is on my list of plants to try growing!
@@plantlifeproject TIL what a riparium is and it is exactly what I would like to have at home 😊
Also I’ve been looking in to growing orchids in water (it appears to be complicated ) but also orchids in a terrarium. I was wondering if there is a peace of wood sticking out of the riparium anyway, maybe an orchid can benefit from the evaporating water without necessary touching the water.
I’ll be definitely waiting for a calla video. Thanks 😊
@@lucieciepka1031 you can grow phaelanopsis moth orchids in water. I have one growing in greenhouse tank in a basket planter with lava rock and moss halfway in the water but you could definitely grow it on a branch like you are describing though it may need to be wrapped onto the branch with sphagnum moss ? And still watered from time to time.
@@plantlifeproject thank you 😊
What is the purple plant in his tank in this video? I really like it.
variegated or tricolor waffle plant (Hemigraphis)
Brilliant idea on the baskets, I've been growing pothos in my tank for a couple of years, but they are not manageable. Where did you get the plastic grid from? Thanks!
Thanks! The egg crate ceiling panel came from Home Depot
@@plantlifeproject Thanks, can't find black in Canada, unless you try Amazon, a little pricey though. HD carries white 2 X 4 which will be just fine. Now I have to look for easter lily, which should not be a problem. Cheers.

Do you use sticks/ branches from your yard? How do you prepare them? Thanks
Yes I use dead branches, not much preparation, just make sure the branches are dead and dried out, aged. check out this video on the subject 👉czcams.com/video/J2lJEfENXzM/video.html
Is the wire you use to hang the plants a special type?
I looked for something strong enough to hold a decent sized peace lily, but most plant ties I found are similar to trash bag wire ties.
In this video, the peace lilies are growing in a planter basket which hangs on the back of the tank with plastic hooks that I got from IKEA AND I spray painted them black with Krylon fusion black matte finish. They are also available on Amazon, here’s a link.

Great video. I have a question, i have a peace lily for a year now in my aquarium, it is growing nicely but i have 0 flowers coming out from about 2 months after it was put in. Basicly i hvae only leaves growing.
Any ideas why?
It will not necessarily be flowering all of the time. Mine usually flower for a few months in spring and then the rest of the year they are only leaves.
I see. Alright thank you!!
How do you clean off the leaves and stems on the plant?
Before placing it in the tank? I thoroughly wash the entire plant in water
Is it safe if I grow peace lili roots submerged in the shrimp tank? Shrimps might go eat part of root is it toxic?
Have not kept shrimp with peace Lily before. I have kept shrimp with other plants that are supposedly toxic with no problems.
whats that long leaf plant next to the peace lily? it's gorgeous
Umbrella sedge. Awesome plant, one of my top 5 for water filtration
Hi there,
I have question for you. Are peace lily can put in to african cichilds tank (haps and peacock cichilds?
Thank you in advance

czcams.com/video/qG_pSlXQN-0/video.html
Do the roots from the peace lily extract nitrates from an aquarium?
Yes, absolutely!
Hello much thanks for your advice and videos. I planted peace lilies , althought its growing new leafs the leafs keep getting black tips with yellow borders and eat infinitely into the leaf. Any idea whats wrong? My pothos and chinese evergreen is not doing this
Is this happening to the older leaves on the peace lily?
@@plantlifeproject not really, kind of happening to all of them
@@mememe84 how many fish do you have in the tank? are you fertilizing? What’s the water temperature?
Hello sir, my peace lily roots have overgrown my 40 liters tank. Should i trim its roots? Will it do any harm?
Sometimes trimming may be needed but I try to keep it to a minimum, only trimming roots that are actually in the way. This will not hurt the plants, just avoid heavy root pruning .
Some people say only the roots should be in the water, not the stems. If the stems are in the water, they will rot. What are your thoughts on this?
I grew a peace lily in the substrate of a 10 gallon tank for over 2 years. Recently took the tank down but the plant was still thriving. Check out my Beginner Houseplant ed tank video, and updates
What happens to new shoots if the plant is submerged in the substrate? Won't the new shoots drown?
When roots “drown” it’s because of a lack of oxygen. When peace Lily is growing in the water, the roots can grow down into the substrate and still get the oxygen they need in the water. And will not grow into areas of substrate where no oxygen is available
I bought a peace lily and put it in my tank water and the leaves are drying up? What can I do?
It's not unusual for them to go through a transition time as they adapt to water. during which time the leaves may wilt, some may die off as well as some roots but you should start seeing new roots and leaves beginning to grow after a few weeks
What did you use to cut the egg crates and what hooks are those that you used? I would love to make these for my tanks!

Is it okay if i'll use MoneyPlant to my small cement pond?
Which plant are you referring to? Epipremnum aureum (scientific name)? Several plants have the name Money plant.
😎👍
Question: in my tank i added Peace Lilys that has 5 flowers. i notices a white power on the leaves. then i realized its pollen coming from the flowers. Will this bother the fish or is it no big deal?
I haven’t had any problems with peace Lily pollen. I usually have lids on the tanks but some pollen will inevitably fall in. It is messy though
@@plantlifeproject thank you. I am really enjoying the plants and I will just let them do what they do. Thanks again for the great videos.

Does peace lily can flower while sinking water tank?!
Yes, it does flower while growing in the water!
I'm building a 15 gallon tall riparium. It's slow growing
Cool, How long has it been setup?
@@plantlifeproject 2 weeks! my monstara is starting to root and my pothos is being stubborn. The peace lily I put in a fishbowl with a thick substrate . I got a pothocarry clip today so the monstara and pothos are in a better position to get water. I'm getting algae on my aquarium plants, so im going to need less tank light in the future.
I wonder if there's a rooting additive that doesn't change the parameters of the water for fish.
Buying link for planter basket please anyone??
There are links products I use for making DIY planters in this video below czcams.com/video/4Zv6VIbRrms/video.html
What are the other plants on this video over your fish tank?
I have Pothos growing in the two back corners, dwarf umbrella sedge, lucky bamboo and arrowhead plant
Would you pick a peace lily or Pothos for your aquarium if you had to choose?
Tough choice! They are both tough and easy to grow, I think it depends on whether you want a vine to train or not
Do I need a heater 🤔
It can be helpful but not absolutely necessary. If the room temperature stays above 65F, it should be fine. I have heaters in some peace lily tanks but not in all and the plants are growing well in both.
can u plant peacelilly in a 50gallon tank?
Yes absolutely
does activated carbon affect the growth of the plants?
An interesting question, I am not sure 🤔

How much light does peace lily need
Low to medium light is fine, just nothing intense like direct sunlight
@@plantlifeproject thats perfect! Thank you 😁
I tried using peace Lilly but they never survived in the water for me what might be the problem, sir, please reply
I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble, Peace lily is usually an easy plant to grow in water. what are your growing conditions? light, water and container, nutrients, etc?
@@plantlifeproject aquarium mature water is being used, indirect sunlight, and no fertilizers just fish poop, first lilly wilted a bit left it for a day or to and it started to rot and died
It sounds like good growing conditions , Does the aquarium that you are growing the peace lily in have air pump or water pump of some kind? What about water hardness?
@@plantlifeproject an air pump with air stone, small water pump for circulation, water is a little bit on harder side, I can see white line on aquarium glass
These are good growing conditions. You may consider experimenting with Peace lily in smaller jars, each one being in a different part of the building, maybe use fertilizer in one , different light levels, etc.
Try to vary the conditions with each jar. Over time this may give you more information about what your plants need in your specific location.
Can I use it in koi fish tank are they safe?
To my knowledge they are safe , I’ve never grown peace lily with koi but I would have no hesitation, personally. The only thing I would be concerned about is the fish possibly eating the roots. This video 👉czcams.com/video/qG_pSlXQN-0/video.html may give you some ideas for protecting the roots if you want to try it out.
