- On the 12th episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli and Jasmin Leigh chop it up with comedian, actor, and personal friend Godfrey. They discuss the similarities of what it is to be a rapper versus a comedian. Godfrey talks about valuable lessons learned from Jerry Seinfeld and studying under Bernie Mac when he was getting started in Chicago. They go into Instagram comics possibly being the mumble rappers of comedy, and we get to hear some of his favorite impressions.
The convo gets especially hilarious as he recounts moments working with Snoop Dogg as his role of co-pilot in the movie "Soul Plane." Other topics include A.D.O.S., Talib's beliefs on why People's Party is such an important platform, ASAP Rocky getting released, Robert Downey Jr. playing a black man in "Tropic Thunder," women of color in the comedy world not getting enough recognition, and much more.

First time seeing this podcast it's great
Talib, this is good... so... edifying! @53:00 or there about... true, but... Godfrey, note: the corner... 'standing on your square'... #Saturn teas. Not excusing idle time ...or building... but just importing the possible psychology behind it.

My brother speak on it.
"Personality for days"
Put a week on it.
So, we're a month later now and his personality is gone.
@@Prutswerk Days will end at the "end of days".
I paraphrased Short Khop from Ice Cube's We Be Clubbin'.
Prutswerk You kno what I meant. Keyboard warrior
I know what you meant but in this case it was a dumb expression. Touchscreen soldier.
I need Godfrey to get a Netflix special.. How do we petition this???

Bernie Mac would be proud of Godfrey he elevated. That Chinese impression was funny af.
godfrey is my dude . damn i wish eddie murphy put him in coming to america 2
Should've been the first initial call before the idea of a Coming to America II was pondered.....FOH....not Godfrey's fault....IDC, I probably wont see it.....
Godfrey is the avenue to this movie being re-lifted, ,but the powers that be, decided to take a side street.....
Still a chance. Have they even begun shooting?
I heard he WAS in it
That’s a great idea .. he would kill coming to America 2
Take a shot every time jasmine gets interrupted 😂
Yo im saying that was rude as hell right🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's because Godfrey has his own Podcast. So he can't turn his self off lol
For real! 😄
Damn near every time she opened her mouth she was getting cut off.
I’d be wasted and in the hospital with alcohol poisoning if I did that! Lol 😂
Man I like both guys but they need a tall glass of shut the fuck up when the lady is trying to make a statement god damn!lol ridiculous.
One of the greatest of his generation. Godfrey is not just a comedian a philosopher as well.
Godfrey is awesome man! Love his energy and chemistry with Talib! 💯💪🏾
Godfrey is my dude. Great interview!💪🏾💪🏿👍🏾👍🏿

They give my guy no love
Voodoo child
On god
I loved Eddie Griffin in the movie double take.
Word cuz
Don’t know if Talib and staff ever read these comments, but I am personally overjoyed to have access to Talib’s show, thoughts, interviews, etc... and the guests.... OMG, love Godfrey, grew up watching Godfrey, followed his career for a long time, and then kind of lost sight of him until he appeared on VladTV with another God-Fav, none other than Lord Jamar, who I had the same experience with growing up respecting but losing track of at some point.... and many others who are now reappearing as guests on these different platforms. Amazing!
Point being, it is awesome to see the return of mindful thought. We’re here for it.
Godfrey is one of the best to EVER do it, it just comes too naturally for him. The mix of intellect, comedy, history, life lessons all wrapped in one is exactly what we need and he delivers so effortlessly it's admirable. Hes just special. I could listen to him all day. Can't wait to see him in Boston in January!
Godfrey brings a style of comedy thats like no other. He's natural and VERY intelligent. He speaks the truth about comedy.
Lmfao the amount of times this girl got cut off and ignored. She was able to get in a few times tho, I was like yes! Haha
...did u think of Angela Yee's style of interviewing too, there?
Dag
yeah I wasn't completely feeling her!
Actually a good show. A Natural flow into a subjects.
That wide shot is SO dope
I'm 61 this year, been around for a minute, these interviews are heads and shoulders, above all other shows bar none.
Shalom
I've been a fan of Godfrey since 1999 when he was doing all of the comedy clubs in NYC. Trust me, when he comes to your town BUY A DAMN TICKET!!!
I love love love Godfrey! He is the truth!
Yes he is! I’d love to see him live.
So much knowledge being dropped about art forms here. I love how two masters of different forms can come together and show how different yet similar their crafts are. Those jewels can be applied to so many other things. Thanks for the wisdom, guys.
You feel me💡💡🤟🏾
12:55 This Bernie Mac piece is amazing
"Read you your history..." #BARS #BARS #PREACH #YESSSS
Intelligent conversation. Good show
The chic had no clue, she was definitely in victim mode, when Godfrey was trying to school and teach her
the one she's annoying.
Godfrey and Talib K need a show together. I'm putting that out in the atmosphere....
I'm glad to hear a mention of Jeru The Damaja in here. A great MC not talking about enough! Godfrey is a great comedian! I laughed hard at how he imitated the black comedian stereotype.
I liked the way Godfrey handled the reparations situation cuz as a African he know it was none of he's business whether to voice his opinion or not which he didn't.
I’m so glad Godfrey is on here great interview!
Damn I didn’t want the interview to end!!! Godfrey is very entertaining and intelligent!!!
This is one of the BEST interviews I've seen in a while.
Godfrey is a good dude. Good people! Bernie Mac schooled him well. I didn't know that. Salute!
Yo Talib, THIS WAS ONE OF THE DOPEST. Godfrey is a MONSTER on the comedy mic!!!!

Salute King Talib! So glad you have your own platform. Look forward to great thought provoking conversations. Peace and prosperity king!

What was thought provoking about this BS?
@@ray1411 clearly you weren't listening. Be gone troll
This is a dope podcast shot out to#Talib and #Godfrey for having great chemistry you can tell they really are cool with each other and have respect for both respectable crafts#Hiphop#Comedy go ✋ and hand.
He is name dropping all of my faves. Dean Edwards is so slept on. They did not knwo what to do with him on SNL. Saw him with my mom and died laughing. The room only had about 15 people in it and he went around and talked to and clowned with all of us. It was so awesome. One of the best memories I have with my mom as an adult - taking her to NY and going to a comedy club and having the show be about us.
I’m mad tht I’m just now finding out Talib has a show 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ But I’m glad it was recommended 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾🤟🏾🔥
We drop every Monday!
GODFREY YOU ARE THE HOTDAMN G.O.A.T......MY GOD. WE DO NOT DESERVE YOU!!! You too Talib....You two brothers stay blessed
Out of all the podcast I’ve seen the video quality on this, is excellent! And Godfrey always dope, good conversation, this is a good format for Talib as well, thanx
Dude I haven’t even finished the podcast yet and the visual is super nice.
I love you guys. This was such a well rounded conversation.
This is the best show I have seen in a while. Props from Spain. Please be on Netflix.
Godfrey is as funny as they come. So underrated
Probably one of the best interviews on youtube, period. Lively, intelligent, FUNNY people just get you more animated, just look at Talib- he was ina different space. GOOD SHIT
That’s whassup!!! The People’s Party appreciates you!
This is DOPE AF! 💯💯💯
There’s no interviewing Godfrey. He will interview you 😂
This is quickly becoming my favorite podcast. Kweli seems so natural at this, I don't know why I'm surprised, but I am.
Why isnt she at the table? Her being in the background makes her prescence a little awkward.
Very... Was watching Godfrey's podcast today and there is a woman's voice that pops out here and there and her face was never shown 😶
Pretty standard for a talk show tbh
She got ignored so many times, I laughed and then I felt bad.
Yeah it was pretty bad to see how many times Godfrey over talked her and barely gave her an ability to complete her thought.
It's a podcast. She could've been at her house or Cancun. A set of ear buds and a camera phone and you're at any table
Godfrey was NOT feeling that young lady, AT ALL!!! LOL!
Talib when are you gonna bring yessein bey
Did you see that torture video??? wow
Moustafa Mahgoub Yasiin**
DarkskinDrake what video?
@@jblue1622 go watch it
DarkskinDrake oh I watched as much as I could, couldn’t stand much watching one half of Black Star like that
Talib and Godfrey dropping gems 👈💂
This just made me love Godfrey more. The dude is funny and intelligent. His penchant for out talking, out working, and being on top of his knowledge of self and life is amazing. I'm a fan for life.
Best interview I've ever seen this year, and shout out to Talib and Godfrey with love from South Africa ✊🏾
They had to stop Godfrey from going in with too much of the truth....They were about to lose some sponsors 😂🤣😁 Lmaooooo!!!
Facts, facts and more facts!!!!! I absolutely love Greer Barnes and love Bill Burr!!!! Excellent examples....
“Good Morning!
Good Afternoon!
Good night!
What have you done with your life!!!”
I had to do it, that song is too epic!!!
God Bless Kweli for one of the Greatest (songs) albums in the history of American Music!
If you didn't get chills watching Godfrey do the Bernie Mac impressions... You're not a real Mac fan!!!
Damn I cried watching this the most honest convo on comedy
Shoutout 2 Godfrey speaking truth & knowledge!!!
Godfrey: the circuit is so big
Talib: it's realy small though
Godfrey: it's small and big but...
Flo Blogs lol I get it but don’t get it
I like this wave of rappers doing podcasts
Godfrey stand ups always been hilarious plus he gives insights on his interviews
Great show I’ve always loved Godfrey
so significant kEep doing what you are DOING KINGSSSS
I saw Godfrey at the DC Improv a couple years back and he killed it…absolutely hilarious. Salute!
One my fav episodes so far. Highly intellectual and hilarious af
I truly enjoyed this interview, I wasn’t ready for it to end!
I clicked on this to see if I could make 10 minutes...messed around and watched the whole thing. Good shit.
Great set Talib... Godfrey dude you impress every time
Godfrey's face in Original Gangsters when he's at the basketball court should have won him an Oscar. Classic.
Maaaaaannnnnn I love listening to both of these brothers speak. HOW DID IT TAKE ME 3yrs TO FIND THIS?! 🤦🏽♂️
This interview was capital F F#@%ing fantastic 👏 I learned so much. Godfrey should've had a show a long time ago. Legitimately hilarious, and ultra intelligent.
Comedians & Rappers are both storytellers
HILARIOUS!!!!! My father used to say “when you come in this house, ju are en CUBA” lolol
Lmfao "ju"
GODFREY IS THE BEST! Great guest. Great interview. Nice job Talib.
THIS is an OUTSTANDING interview yo! Reminds me of talks in the barbershop and cigar lounges.
I’m so ready for this. Subscribed.
Kweli keepin it raw! I love this People's Party
Keep do it Talib love the podcast
01:08:02 godfrey: "black women in comedy are ignored." Cut to the scene that focuses on the 2 men and the black woman comic not in the scene as she was ignored and off to the side the entire interview . Lol!
He means black women in comedy that actually put some time in. I think Godfrey just doesn't see anyone as a comic if they got less than 10 years in 😅
She is the assistant this so this is not about her so stop trying to start some mess he means black women, in comedy as a whole they are ignored. Your skin color kinda prevents you from a level of comprehension because you lack compassion.
@@Katlady001 Are you sure she's not a comic, because that what I addressed. You say my skin color prevents me from a level of comprehension. What skin color is that?
@@SodaPopinksi This show is not about her bro it's Godfrey the veteran comedian's interview, she as an amateur comedian should just be happy to even be there cause she really served no purpose in this interview as an amateur comedian that nobody clicked here to see.
It was rude considering there were a couple times that Talib, the HOST of the podcast included her in the conversation and she still got overtalked and ignored. @Lhoyte1
Gina Yashere, dope black female comic from the uk. I think she resides in usa now.
Correct and correct
GODFREY WE LOVE YOU BRO!!!!
This was an amazing interview- my God where are the offers for Talib?
I need more! Very polished and interesting. Also the more I hear Godfrey the more I appreciate him. He is definately under rated.
Intro is HOT
I watched several episodes and NEVER heard the "studio audience" laugh so much! Godfrey is the ish.
Aw man every scene Orlando Jones does in American Gods is Emmy Award-Worthy!! especially season 2 I'm glad that Brother's name was brought up.
Whew...this channel it new to me, but I subscribed immediately! I’m a fan of both of you brothers and I’ve got to say that I haven’t been this engaged in a dialog in...FOREVER!!
Thanks
small small world.. Godfrey is related to Sunny Okosun ..wonderful
It's the God Free!!! ✌
Idc, Robert Downey was funny af in Tropic Thunder!
they only talked postively about Tropic Thunder. So much so that i want to see it now
It’s hilarious 😂😂😂😂
He was singing the jeffersons theme song😁😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, I was pissed the entire time I laughed through the movie.🤔🤣🤔🤣
Godfrey is a Beautiful Man! Never paid attention! Geesh. Thank you Talib.
I love Godfrey cuz he loves hip hop so much.
Godfrey been a OG in the game, been following Him for years
I always thought Godfrey was funny. I remembered seeing him in commercials and I was like this dude is funny lol. Happy to see him doing good things
Godfrey is as an extremely intelligent man. He just makes me proud to be Nigerian and I'm blessed to have met Kweli at the African Shrine in Lagos Nigeria🇳🇬
I thoroughly enjoyed this, for real!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Glad to see Godfrey still being excellent. I remember him in “7Up Yours” commercials 😂
