My grandmother had a Minnesota treadle machine. I never got to see it, but I remember my Dad telling me it had a shuttle. She died in her 50's, 2 years before I was born.
Nice. Sorry that you did not get to know your Grandma, or her treadle machine. I am sure they were both awesome!

In HS Home Ec class in the 1970s, we sewed with very sturdy Viking machines. I don’t know if they had zigzag, but I only used them for straight stitching back in the day.

You will be amazed by the Athena. Mine was a gift from my grandpa - 1979. I have sewn everything on it. It’s my go-to for patching jeans. The electronic tests are interesting - don’t be daunted. I have run one through for a few decades. I bought another Athena in case i need spare parts - it also runs great so I will have to source another one for parts🥴. Of all my machines in my collection this is still my favourite. I’ve never had an issue with the free arm table snapping down. It bolts over blue jean seams and sews chenille like a charm.

Thank you for this video, so neat to see that Athena, please do make a video on its cleanup and repair. I’d love to see what made that machine run, I would have loved to have had that machine back in the day! I have a Minnesota treadle in a parlor style cabinet, just went to look at it and I see there’s a decal on the center of the bed that says Sears Roebuck. Cabinet has beautiful wood decals and wheels also. It weighs a ton. If you’re ever in Ohio, come and get it!😅

My mom has the same model Viking 4700 made in W Germany that you have. She bought it in 1979 and paid $342.00 for it.
Wow. That's cool. Not a cheap machine by today's standards, let alone after inflation. Vikings are great machines. We are lucky to have found that one. Thanks!

My late mom had this exact machine. She made my dresses and play clothes on it. She gave it to me in the early 90's. It wasn't working too well it was very temperamental. She went with me when I traded it in for a Viking Husqvarna electronic machine. Still have it, although it needs some servicing. I bought a Brother 10 years ago. I really miss my mom and going to sewing classes together. 😢
Hello. Thank you for showing your collection. I wanted to provide a couple of points about your Athena 2000. It’s not the first Singer with electronic stitch selection, but it was the most successful of the them. The machine was a successful version of the first Singer electronic, the Futura version called, I believe, the Futura Athena, then it became the Athena 2000 ( in your collection) and then the Touch - Tronic 2005! These are great machines. They wind the bobbin in place, they measure and size the button for the button hole and do a super neat job of it. It does do flowers and dogs. There is a balance feature for stretch stitches so that they look neat. The motor is two speed and the foot control is solid state to keep the motor turning at optimal speed for thick fabrics. And because they have so few mechanical parts, they are quiet - for the day. The machine came with a beige box of every pressure foot you would ever need. The owner’s manual was very detailed….and you can probably get a copy. These machines were made in Anderson South Carolina. I could provide more but …Try to find a Touch Tronic 2001 - that is one very cool sewing machine that I wish I had. 😄

The singer 128 can be converted to a hand crank. Accessories are comparable with the 99’s

I am late to the game and this is my first time watching this. I have cams for that machine and no use for them, I also have a buttonhole machine??? That goes with that machine as well. LMK if you're interested. 😊 I used to have one of those machines. Now I have 2 of the 638's, featherweight and a 237.

I found a Viking Husqvarna for $50 at a thrift store. Mine is a little newer than your cool, spectator machine. My stitch cams are internal, made in Sweden. I am surprised how nice my machine is, sews with intention, smooth. I usually only deal with vintage Singers. Maybe I'll branch out more.

I’ve run out of space for vintage machines so try to not even look anymore. I still check out doodads though and get over the moon excited over anything I don’t already have😂
You should definitely make a video on the electronic singer. Probably aren’t a lot of videos out there on that model and while it might not get the most views, it will be a godsend someday to someone who found a similar model and wants to learn about it. I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to watch videos on machines like the ones I rescued when I first started acquiring vintage machines.

Always nice to see what you have gotten. Hoping still you find yourselves a featherweight. Watching your videos inspired me to post a short of my own for a rare industrial I have, will likely do more at some point.

I love your videos! I just wanted to give a word of caution about the Bentwood cases. They were designed to 'cover' the machine and not transport it. The machines were way too heavy and they were not meant to be portable. So be safe and use the case as a cover. A question: how do you guys find time to restore and use all those machines? Wow! I am impressed! They are really nice looking machines.

Thanks for the advice :) The short answer to the question of how do we find the time to use all of our machines is...we don't. When we had 10, and then 20, and even 30 machines, we would really try to use them all on a regular basis. By now, we have over 50 machines and it is just not realistic to use them all. At this point they are all just part of our collection and CZcams content in the wings waiting for their day to shine. Thanks for the comments and question and thanks for watching!

Great finds - and great prices! I have that same 301 cabinet - only it houses my Singer 201. My small drawer on the left came with the built in ink well glass jar and pen/pencil tray. I love this cabinet- it also has a foot pedal (like a piano pedal) on the bottom that operates the 201, and you can retract it back inside the cabinet. I'm glad you appreciate the deco beauty of you new cabinet - it's a gem! I do not have a 301, that's always been on my list! The ones I've looked at were SO quiet to run! Enjoy!

I came across a Singer Genie a couple of months ago, I was so excited! It wasn’t the most I have paid ( probably the 2nd most) But “she “ was extra special to me. My best friend got one in1973 for a graduation gift. She passed away when we were 49 years old, I’m now 68. I could hardly believe it, I’d been thinking of her machine for years and hoping, but really not thinking I’d ever find one. Marketplace right in my own town within 5 miles of me!!
Do y’all have one of those?

Genie is the little portable ( kinda like a modern featherweight) she’s has yellow and orange flowers on the front face. I’d send a picture if I figured out how to.

My Viking has to be on a certain setting to remove the cam, and if it is not you break something inside. I know from experience. Mine was new when I did it so It got fixed right away. I think parts are harder to find now so be careful.

About the Husqvarna "Made in Germany" - in 1974 Husqvarna took over the "Meister Werke" in Schweinfurt/Germany, and some of their models were build there. How much influence the German engineers at Meister had on those models is to be debated, but there are some differences in general build method to those machines compared to the Swedish ones.
Thank you so much for the info! That makes sense. It seems as though this Viking model is not nearly as stout as the others we have had. I just chalked it up to it being from the 70s or 80s, but maybe there is more to it. There is more plastic parts on this machine than any other models we have played with. Thanks again for watching!
Such nice additions to your collection! Since you say you bought your Viking 6430 from a gentlemen who services machines, I'm sure he told you, but just in case, you do not oil Vikings like typical sewing machines. They are self-lubricating - as long as you keep using them so the internal lubrication doesn't freeze up. (That's what is usually wrong with the older Viking machines and then the internal cam stack will crack if they are operated without being serviced first.) As I mentioned in a previous comment, I'm a Viking girl through and through. My mom had a 6430 while I was growing up (my sister has it now) and I learned to sew on that and have loved Vikings ever since. In addition to a couple modern computerized Vikings I use for every day, I have a 6010 and a 2000 (cool metallic green).

You may want to watch for a Kenmore 158-1040 (or 1030, 1050), known as The Kenny. It was their first 3/4 size machine with unusual way to extend the sewing bed and comes in a beautiful rose case.

The Touch and Sew is from the mid-60's...around 1965, to be more precise. Be aware, the cam stack gear on the Viking (Husqvarna) 6430 is notorious for cracking. Replacements can be bought for around US$60.00. Perhaps the one in yours has already been replaced...which would be cool. The In Stiches channel has the definitive series on the Singer Futura (Athena). Definitely worth a look.

I have a vintage sewing machine that was given to me I went and had it cleaned and but I’m trying to figure out how to do the attachments
Do you have the knee lever for the 128? Judging by the hole in the front of the base this one has the "electrics" all inside the box and you just need the lever... Although they are usually wired so you could use a food pedal too.

For the Singer 128, why don't you look up the serial number (the brass plate just before the bobbin winder). Google the different search sites and you can find the date and where it was manufactured.
Thank you for the advice and the comments. Our 128 bears the JB prefix which singer held no manufacturing information about other than these serial number tags were issued in 1936.
A word for the wise: Do not pick up a sewing machine by the handle on the top of the bentwood case. The wood is old and dry, the machine is heavy. Either the box under the handle can give way, or the screws in the latch can pull out. Use two hands on the base.
