I have a feeling Chael never had any trouble filling the word count in his college essays.
I pray college had a higher standard as us the audience of these video's about the content of such fillings.
Yeah, the teacher trying to figure out what his point was in the essay was where the problems began! It's utter scutter!! He'll be on ESPN later with the only change from this vid is that someone else will be asking the questions he asked himself here!! 🤷♂️

I don't know why people can't understand this. The spirit of the rule is to see if someone is able to continue fighting after a knockdown. If you're lucid, and not wobbly, you're good to go. You got knocked down. Fury was perfectly fine after the knockdown. You wouldn't want a fight stopped over a perfectly fine fighter racing to stand up. It's there to give the ref time to assess.
Yeah, people are arguing that we should've ended the fight when both guys still wanted to fight. It's asinine
He would have just got up faster anyways. He was never in actual danger of being stopped.
Wouldn’t say he was perfectly fine he was definitely wobbled but to stop the fight there when he’s standing up would have been ridiculous
Yes and obviously Fury is listening to the ref and wait to the second to get up. If the count was quicker he would've got up sooner
If that were the case there wouldn't even be a count to begin with.
Fury was lucid and following the count. Even if Wilder had gone to the right corner Fury would have gotten up in time.

It was never about Wilder leaving the corner, the count was just ridiculously long. Wilder knocked him down once and it was 1 minute left, knocked him down twice 22 seconds left. After Fury got up the round was over, because the ref gave Fury almost 30 seconds to rest between each knockdown. Normally its 15 seconds from knockdown to back to fighting, so Wilder shouldve had 10-15 seconds to finish Fury in the 4th round and he would have 100% done that, Fury could barely stand.

@@friedchicken6570 you okay hun
Can't believe people are still talking about this nonsense. At no time was Fury not going to get up by the count of ten.....whether or not Wilder didn't go to his neutral corner. Anyone who thinks otherwise should stop watching boxing now. If we're going to analyze that, then we have to analyze why Wilder was given roughly 12 seconds when he was knocked down in the 3rd, and why the doctor gave him over 20 seconds to recover at the beginning of one of the later rounds rather than examine him in the corner between rounds.

@@friedchicken6570 its count to ten, its not precisely ten seconds, and if you read the rules ref should stop the count if opponent leaves the corner which he did. and ref can follow the ring side counters if he wants to but ref makes the last decision. It's not like 'the corner' has visible boundaries.
It's a simple concept but a bit vague when it comes to be challenged or scrutinised.
Plus Tyson Fury is a smart Boxer he always waits for the 8-9 count he wasn’t OUT he just understands the rules
Exactly, if the ref didn't stop to tell Wilder off, Fury still would have made the count, he was just chilling untill The REFS 8.
All smart fighters do that. They take the few extra seconds to recover before trying to stand. Fighters who never thought they would be knocked down and are embarrassed immediately jump to their feet and try to act like they didn't get hurt. I don't know if Rogan, Cormier, or any of the sports reporters who keep bringing up the count have mentioned this. I've never seen so much complaining about count length as in the first and third fight of this rivalry.
literally no one is saying had the count been done corretly he wouldve failed the count. theyre saying without the extra time he wouldnt recover as much.
@@Punko1969 yeah, it showed, cause I'm sure Wilder got back up at 4 at some point, I remember thinking to myself "what are you doin, take the 8, take the knee".

Some people claim it was a ko but I don’t think it would have made a difference. Fury was fully conscious and following the referees count. He could have gotten up earlier if he wanted to, with the round nearing the end. Simple.
Exactly
Yea we saw that, what we didn’t see is if he had his legs 4-5 seconds earlier. Even if he did if he rushed up instead then maybe he stumbles snd thinks about it for a second and it throws off his game just long enough for an overhand right like the one he wasn’t 100 percent recovered from yet even when he did get up and start fighting again. There’s so many could of and maybes in that so it’s not just simple actually, it’s so complicated that considering what if has no definitive answer honestly lol
@@southernlogicyt It's not complicated at all. Fury wasn't dazed and his legs weren't wobbly, so the referee allowed him to continue. There was no need to add unnecessary complexity to your comment.

I've been watching boxing for 50 years and the rule has always been the ref stops the count if he deems you not to be in the neutral corner.
The count was irrelevant anyway, Fury was ready to go, he was just going through the motions of the count. Dude was lucid. Wilder was the one wandering around in a daze.
I have no idea what this one's about, but I stopped the video to comment the losses our Chael suffered through his career.
Here goes:
agreed.
"When a knockdown occurs, the downed boxer’s opponent shall go to the furthest neutral corner and remain there while the count is being made. The Ref usually points the fighter to the corner to go to. The Ref also goes over these rules pre-fight in the locker rooms.
Buster Douglas was the RECIPIENT of the slow count after being knocked down by Tyson, making that upset possible, which was the controversy.

Have a good day, Sir.

Chael there are only two neutral corners making up the ring so guessing which one is the furthest corner is simple. The ref also points to the corner for the boxer so there's no excuse for that boxer not to go to and stay in that neutral corner. That was Wilder's responsibility and he failed.

It's not exactly geometry chael. There are 2 neutral corners, they're the ones without coaches and cut men by them, and the ref will point you to it just in case the fighter cant figure out on his own.
Also Chael, the controversial slow count in the Tyson/Douglas fight was to give Buster Douglas time to get up... not Mike as you stated.
If he stated Mike, it was Mike. You and the video must be mistaken.
How you dare!
Should also mention that Fury was watching the ref’s count and got up when he felt he should. He would have gotten up sooner if he had to. Sure…he was givens a couple extra seconds to compose himself…but thats Wilder’s fault…the rules are the rules.
The slow count conspiracy theorists are utter morons. They don't understand what a standing 8 count is and are trying desperately to justify why their fighter lost to the big white cheater(most of the conspiracy theorists are Afro-Centric racists btw). Okay can someone give me the cliff notes of what Joe and DC said?
there's a vid where a guy broke down the time from the knockdowns to the time the ref got to 8 and to when the fight started again. they even out with less than a half a second for both fighters
Isn’t the outside official’s job to keep the count in case the referee is distracted for what reason he can look over to that outside official and pick up the live count again? Does the count actually stop all together if he has to instruct the fighter back to the corner?
Chael I think the ringside person that keeps the seconds count is called the (seconds out person) the reason I say that is because back when I was a young man I was the that person designated for that job for several fights one night. If a person's never sat ringside before during a fight they don't realize how hard the punches are when they land or how hard they hit the floor once being knocked down, it's an awaking to to the volent and harshness of the sport they've chosen. Bless all fighters that have the courage to put it on the line.

@@E2O10 it was obvious from the start.

When Chael says the rules state that:
"If the referee deems that the athlete has left the farthest neutral corner, he is to stop the count."
Does this mean:
"...the referee is to stop counting... to get the fighter back into the neutral corner - and then resume counting from..."
1. "...the number where he left off at?" Or,
2. "...the number that the guy counting outside the ring has i.e. which is where the count SHOULD have been (as if he'd never been interrupted to deal with the other fighter)?"
The journey we took to get to the point was fuckin magic.
What IS a corner?! Can anyone define that?
Neutral? As in Carbon-neutral?
Has a fight ever been changed because the outside ref counted to 10 before the inside ref?
According the New York commission, it's a ten count. It's not ten second. It might be different in commissions maybe.
It’s also in the rules that he’s supposed to pick the count up from the guy on the side not his own if he has to stop
As a amateur boxer and official this is as basic as a rule that exist. There are 4 corners two of them each boxer and two neutral. Novice amateur boxers learn this and are thought that if you leave the neutral corner the count is gonna stop and the opponent is gonna get additional time to recover. This is basic boxing rules and not worth a 8 minute video discussing what is a neutral corner 🤦🏽♂️

Uncle Chael, you're missing the problem. The stopping of the count isn't the problem. The problem is that he resumed where he'd left off instead of where that guy outside the ring was. The guy you mentioned whose only job is to count. The ref is meant to follow his count, but he didn't.
What IS the corner? - Plato
For those wondering, since Chael has no idea, the rule is that the ring side counter starts the count and the ref takes it up from wherever he picks it up. The ringside counts actual seconds, the ref does not.
Punch Out on Nintendo does increase the speed of the 10 count if you’re really already knocked out.

This video made me feel “discombobled” 😂
The referee stopped the count to order wilder back into his corner which was fine, but their argument was that there was also meant to be a count going on by a ringside official so the referee knew where to resume, yet he appeared to continue more or less from where he stopped.
Mrs. Burrack at Wood Middle School better be grateful that she got to teach a young Uncle Chael
The reason for the neutral corner rule: up until the 1920's, an opponent didn't have to go to a neutral corner once a knockdown occurred. They could just stand over the downed opponent and go to work as soon as the person gets up.
The most notable fight you can see this in action is Jack Dempsey vs Jess Willard.

If people want to argue Fury was given a “long count”, then they need to rewatch when Fury knocked wilder down in the 3rd round the count went on longer than 10 seconds.
