"educate & promote thinking in a pure baseball sense" This piece perfectly exemplifies why certain stats by themselves cannot make a full narrative. The beauty in baseball is in the complexity of every aspect of a seemingly simple game.

Baseball should have been a class you can take in school for the guys who didn't make the team

I was driving myself nuts just last night trying to find out why it is called a 4 seam fastball. I mean, what the heck, a baseball only has the one seam, right? This video popping up was perfect timing. I thank you, and my children thank you (I am pretty sure they think that having me blather on even once about 4 seam fastballs was one time too many).

I know this said what spin rate is, but what it didn't say is how it is useful to a pitcher. I don't understand how a batter is going to be amazingly thrown off by a couple more rotations. I feel like going over that, the way that pitch-rate deceives a batter, would have been better than simply stating guys who have good/bad spin rates.

Spin rate is a completely useless stat on a fastball. It means nothing at all.

Spinning objects in a fluid (air) have curved trajectories. How fast it spins and around what axis determines the vertical and lateral movement of the ball. So they can drop more or cut to the glove side later from closer to the middle of the plate.
      That's why spin rate matters. It's 1800s aerodynamics. :)

Now I want to see how well a pro can distinguish a pitch just based on spin alone within the same amount of time and distance during a typical pitch. I'm guessing the best hitters are freakishly good at this.

Nobody ever claimed pitchers were good because they had a good spin rate...

Command of multiple pitches and effectively mixing them is what makes a great pitcher. I say let pitchers use sticky stuff, I don't care for homeruns anyway.

REPENT and be BORN AGAIN believing on Messiah Lord Jesus, nothing more important, today is the day of salvation and Jesus can show you the truth, its not blind faith you can see it for yourself if you truly seek like promised. John 3:3 unless a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God / Luke 13:3 unless you repent, you will all likewise perish ⚠️❤️⚠️❤️
