As a bodyboarder who grew up in the surf/boog hate in the 90s, it's still so dope to see a sponger and surfer collab without mention. idk, maybe this isn't weird to anyone else anymore but the disrespect between the sports was such a rampant vibe for so many decades that it will never not make me smile to see the mutual respect
for me it not an either or, head high or slightly over I'm surfing, anything bigger I'm on the boog. Elevator drop on double overhead is special kind of terrifying fun.

I know that exact feeling of hitting a ledge and paddling into deeper waters, grew up surfing the coast north of Santa Cruz, 5 mile beach comes to mind for spooky paddles! Tipping my hat to you Mr Florence, and your brave buddy as well! You are truly the definition of a "soul surfer". Kudos to the wife for having your back always!

Absolutely love watching these slab videos of where I grew up surfing. I've surfed Pipe which is Nathan's backyard so I guess it's only fair that he came and surfed in mine. I love the look of stoke he gets and also how he describes the "spookiness" of the water. It really is freaky especially with the kelp monsters.

@@billcarson4566 lol just massive clumps of kelp that cling to those flagstone reefs. Freak you out when they sway around under you while sitting on your board. However, not far from where I believe this spot is there is another spot that can hold a 20ft (on the face) swell. As young groms when a clean up set would come in we would bail and swim down and hold on to the kelp monsters until the wave rolled past us. So the kelp monsters are also friendly...sometimes👍

My day's of bodyboarding are over now. I was like a machine back then, Crab island in Doolin got me back into fishing. Looks like ye had a lot of fun 🎉😂😮

Rogue mission for some kind of rogue wave. It doesn't even break at first, much less peak. The white water just kind of appears & then expands outward. Mad love & respect for even attempting that one. No other surfers to make a lineup. You're just judging based on the white water. The paddle out didn't seem as bad as I expected. A typical San Diego, Sunset Cliffs kind of paddle out (without the depth of course) I'm sure it takes a lot of effort & time to create the video. But the surf footage ?? unreal dude. I imagine 3-4 strokes, pop-up, and hope you're in the right spot, angled the right direction.
I'm guessing you were in Western OZ, or Tasmania. Keep it secret, keep it safe.

That wave looked sick with that little sidewave chip in. Seems like if you make most of the wave it tries to just burp you into deep water. Didn't look fun when the bodyboarder gut stuck in the apex though. You guys are crazy!

Good stuff. We have a slab like this on one of the islands not far from here and the rip current flows over the reef in the shore direction so you can hitch a ride some of the way back in.

Nate Florence's exploration style is how I like to do surf trips, but I dont go out looking for places to possibly die. Im usually looking for fun waves, not deadly

Reminds me of when I used to make the 2.5 mile paddle down to surf off-limits waves off San Diego bay. Just over an hour straight paddling with the current on the longboard. Twice as long on the shortboard, especially against the current. First try paddling in was on Valentine's Day, 2004. Lucked into a boat ride back that day on my 6'2" DHD Parko board. Scored it once before that just because they left the gate open one afternoon. Then when I was driving home, they pulled me over and threatened to confiscate my board. So I knew it had to be paddled into from afar, because I'll never be a boat guy.
I got it good out there on the point a few times but took a dingy. Even on the boog it was good, friends I was with scored a bit more on the sticks. It's a way better place for that craft no doubt. Awesome being secluded in sight though
