Becoming a Diplomat: Amb. Tess de Vega talks about the FSO Exam & more | Almost Diplomatic

  • Probably one of my most requested videos is on how one can actually be a diplomat. So I thought why not ask diplomats themselves? It's such an honour to have Amb. Maria Theresa Dizon-de Vega to talk about these topics. She shares her reading list and some movies you should see to get inspired. She also talks about her experience with the exam, what course should you take in uni, and the things you should expect as an FSO.

Thank you Amb. Tess! I'm actually similar to Amb. Tess, I also took English as my undergrad (NOT a Cum Laude though haha) and Literature in my postgraduate. Diplomacy wasn't really in "the plan," teaching is. I wasn't keen on becoming a public servant because of the many responsibilities and possible adversaries, but a former professor opened a door for taking diplomacy into consideration. I think I've found a role model aside from other diplomats I highly regard. And now that I'm graduating from my postgraduate degree, I don't know if I should also take chance in studying law! Currently, listening to Amb. Tess' interviews too and it makes me excited to read her book and movie recommendations! Thank you again Ms Carol! Can't wait to watch and listen to other ambassadors talk about their experiences as a diplomat! :)

OMG! Thank you so much for this, Ma'am Carol! I don't know if you remember me, but I commented on one of your videos before suggesting that you should make a video in an interview format about being a diplomat. I'm soo soo happy that you delivered. This interview is so insightful! Thank you so much! Though right now I'm struggling a bit with choosing a course to shift into. Right now, I am taking up Bachelor of Social Sciences in History at UP Baguio, and I'm planning to shift to a course in UPD (BA Political Science, BA History, BA European Languages, or BA Development Studies). I'm still super conflicted, but this video has influenced me to shift to either BA History or BA Development Studies! I will keep on contemplating about this haha. Once again, thank you so much! :))
