- The Virginia Reel has travelled across the globe, but few have heard of it. From its conception at Luna Park, Coney Island, to our beloved Blackpool Pleasure Beach, it has gained many fans, but it has largely been forgotten about.
So, in this video, I will unearth the history of this classic roller coaster and discuss what led to its downfall and extinction.

Imagine if some park or manufacturer brought this back
That would be amazing! You can’t move for wild mice at most fairs, so I think a modernised model of the reel would still have an audience. Thanks for watching! 👍
I went on this ride a few weeks before it was demolished, in Oct 1982. It was quite rough, very fast, and you came right out of your seats at the helixes. The painted wooden scenery meant most of the ride was a blur of red and pink circles. Great fun to ride though, and BPB really should bring it back.
That sounds like a fun experience, it would be great for them to bring it back to celebrate their history, a spinning helix in one of those tubs sounds like a unique and hilarious experience! Thanks for sharing your story 👍
Went on this ride several times as a kid. It was by far the roughest ride in Coney.
It does look like a real neck breaker 😂
I love joylands one
That's great to hear, might have to go there. Thanks for watching!
Me too. Made a special trip to Great Yarmouth just to experience it.
Tyrolean Tub Twist is a lot of fun so I would have loved this at Pleasure Beach and elsewhere 🎢
A themed area dedicated to vintage attractions at a park would be an incredible way to embrace the history. I haven’t actually been on the tub twist, after this video I might have to sneak a ride on it at some point! 👍
@@CoasterBuddy Great Yarmouth is a lovely couples days away, with Pleasure Beach, Joyland and PleasureWood Hills to make a 2-3 day trip. I recommend it :)
