- Alita Moses, winner of the 2014 Shure Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition, was invited by Al Jarreau to join him in singing a Gershwin classic during his set at the 2015 Montreux Jazz Festival after opening up for him previously that night on the Montreux Jazz Club stage.
Al wasn’t just a singer he was an instrument of sound that shall never be duplicated
An amazing singer, scat, whatever...I think his Tai Chi lessons helped a lot...:)
Amen brother Al's soul oozed from his voice and All who heard him were recipient's of his generous love!
Indeed!
No one auditions with his songs, because they are unable to. No one ☝️ can scat and do what he does, Al you are beloved and your music is as never composed before. I saw you sing this with Lalah Hathaway. It was beautiful, this is also. We miss you, just seeing you, validates, no body does it better
Dr Moskowitz MD FACS ABU AAGU Idaho state board of medicine and just Julie/ urology 😁🥹☝️✡️✝️🙏
So true, met him and went on thé stage with him, 15 years old, then Always been within m'y heart❤
Been to 7 concerts he was the greatest singer ever. After he got sick in hospital I read somewhere that he sang to his nurses and Dr….RIP Al 🙏
He must have been 75 here. Oh my gosh, gone but never ever forgotten. RIP, Al. Singing in heaven now, I bet.
This man is one of the best. I'm from New Orleans and the first time I saw him was at the Warehouse and I was hooked. Took my boyfriend, my sisters, my friends, all at different times, but each time , they all became fans. I myself saw him 6 times the last at the Jazz and Heritage Festival and he still sounded wonderful. RIP Mr Jarreau you're missed but your music lives on😥😍
It’s Not Hard to Love You!
I saw him a few weeks, before he passed away, in Frankfurt Germany the last time. It was still more live and fun in this concert than modern music has in it. An old guy who just had fun and loved what he was doing till to the end. Excuse me my english..i dont know if its right in grammar etc. 🙃 Learning by doing😂
Oh, how wonderful! I saw him live in Berlin. Loved him since, will love him always ❤
Agreed
Great Singer I saw there in Montreaux 2015
YOUNG FOLKS!! understand and bow down!! FREESTYLING, RAPPING, SPITTING, IMPROVISING, DIRECTING, COLLABORATING, PRODUCING, TEACHING...All at one time, all on the spot!!! LIVE!!!! While promoting and blowing up a fresh young new star.
Dr. Al Jarreau is my pallette cleanser. When I just want to listen to pure music sang from the soul, I reach for the Dr.. His music has been a part of the soundtrack of my life. A true jazz gem, an iconic and brilliant talent.
This just makes me miss Al Jarreau so much-RIP!! I have this on repeat!! Alita Moses is FABULOUS, as well!! You can tell Al was having so much fun with her!!!
Gorgeous, radiant, soulful Alita Moses alongside the one and only Al... I'd kill to be there
The best singer I ever heard. His concert album was the sound track to my 20s and 30s. An acoustic angel that transported us to another realm, simultaneously earthy and transcendent. I’m grateful to have lived when I could share in his music.
That improvised moment at 8:35 when they were scatting like a baby crying was both hilarious and sheer genius!😂🔥👏 Al Jarreau was a one of a kind, pioneering musician that is dearly missed in modern music. And the next generation of jazz music is definitely in great hands with incredible singers like Alita Moses…the girl can sang!🙂👏🎉
Saw Al in ‘85. July of ‘85 I met him at a downstairs bar. I bought him a drink. I asked him for an autograph on a napkin for my young niece, Harmony, and he wouldn’t do it. I turned her on to his music. Well, what ‘cha gonna do? Still love his music! Be at peace, Al...❤️🎵🎤🎸🎹🥁🎺🎷🎫☮️😉
Still can't wrap around my brain the fact that we now say the 'late' Al Jarreau... My mentor, my inspiration, all-time favorite male artist.
So sad . Was blessed to see him live in Auckland . New Zealand with George Benson . Just incredible .
@@taleinz1 I really miss him. He was one of those rare talents who you thought would live forever! I was blessed to kick it with him in Houston, Chaka Khan - Nnenna Freelon- Alex Bugnon. Warren Moon and I had front-row seats. Yeah. I was Rich back then. .... But Al was the headliner... OMG - I went alone to enjoy it.
Back in 1976 a friend of mine played “Glow” been hooked on his voice ever since!!
Ñ
This breaks my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ms Alita and Mr Jarreau sound like two angels in harmony.
HIS singing was out of this world.
A real genius at vocal technique displayed at the age of 70 ish. No one does it better than Al Jarreau.

😂
I saw Al Jarreau perform at the University of California- Berkeley outdoor amphitheater back in the 80s. I was there with a special lady in my arms taking in the sights and sounds. The skyline of San Francisco twinkling in the distance made the night even more magical.
Alita can be proud and should be …
for her entire live having performed with AL !
A story to tell.
Incredible live act.
Now she sings with Jacob... Another legend.
Girl you know you Bad. When you on stage scatting with the master Al Jarreau who is the baddest ever. I love this duet. Beautiful
Amazing, stunning. Both. Rest in peace, Al Jarreau!
Absolutely wonderfully lovely xxxxxx
Sometimes one is just at a loss for words. Searching for the right thing to say, but the words still remain elusive. But then you realize that there are just no words to describe the artistry, harmony of these two artists at work. This one is for the ages. Generations to come will still share the beauty of this song with us. AWESOME! Welcome Alita Moses.
Too beautiful. Al Jarreau and Alita Moses. She has a gorgeous voice and knows how to use it perfectly. The old and the new. Love it.
I saw him live in Montreux, a long time ago. He was a genuinely nice person and an amazing artist. RIP, Al. Gone but not forgotten.

A friend of mine Ethiopian, when we were living in ROME Italy ,brought the cassette Tape of Mr Aljarreau! We were young in our Twenties,in 1983 so we had both beautiful Ethiopian girl friends! So we all sat in a caffe place to listen jarreau! All of us fall in love with Mr Aljarreau music, since then, Aljarreau is in our blood! And I remember, Mr George Benson! Sued Jarreau! For acquiring the same style of music! And later George Benson, accepted jarreau and they both played together. When the world think of America! They see America through , Aljarreau George,Benson ! This musicians represent, Jazz,as the ultimate source of music! A gift of America to the world,! It so powerful! Be proud being black and African descent.
Remember when people had talent and music was always a pleasure? If not listen to this. Love Al and Aliya together.
We saw Al just a year befor he passed. Took our kids so they could share the experience. Ol Al could still bring it home. At the end, my 6 year old looked at me and said, "Gosh, he's really old, but he's really good!"
The surrounding grownups got a good chuckle
I still listening in 2021...may RIP Mr. Al Jerreau...the best ever...
Still Mesmerized by his sound and Miss Moses I believe he passed the baton to you dear... Rest in heavenly peace Sir Al Jaureau

The BEST TO EVER DO IT SIR' AL JARREAU👍🏾😉💞
I saw him in 1978 at the Greek Theater in Berkeley with Lee Ritenour on the billing. I did not know much about him back then. We got to the concert late missed most of Lee and was bummed until Al Jarreau came on and I was blown away and I came away a believer. He was magic on stage. I ended up buying a bunch of his work.
I love Al Jarreau and Alita Moses. I miss his uniqueness, but I am so grateful for the music that he left behind. I have been listening to Al Jarreau since the early 70's.
Legend you where mr al jarreau, thank you sir..
Al Jarreau will live forever in my heart. So many albums/CDs that soothed the day, stimulated an impromptu party and got us all chill, singing, dancing and playing passionately with soul and our hearts in our hands. ❤🎼🎶🎵🎶💜 and Alita Moses - exquisite! I so love how you knees were a'tapping together too😘❤🙌
One of the top ten singers of all time, yet so low key about his extraordinary talent!
Their interaction was so pure i can repeat this all time just to see those faces melting in music. This brought to me so much positive energy, im so thankful for that!
Schön zu sehen, dass durch die Interpretation zweier großartige Sänger dieser fast schon abgehangene Klassiker zu einem wirklichen Highlight wird! Unglaublich starkes Duett! Danke Al!
I met AL Jarreau backstage at the Lancaster Preforming Arts Theater, me and my wife took pictures with him talk with him he's such a delightful man Al told me me was a native and live near by when I hear of his passing Feb12th 2017 when the lord called him home it was a very sad day I remember praying for family and said another "Great One" gone home. I have all of his albums. Al Jarreau is truly missed by me because I loved the things that he could with his vocals and a true entertainer. Much Love Al Jarreau until we meet in heaven.

Al was a magnificent vocalist!! He is definitely on the short list of GOAT vocalists.
First time hearing an upbeat jazz version of this tune. Outstanding job. I've thought that jazz was different and this proved it to be one of the best upbeat version of the original version written by George Gershwin back in the 30's. I consider that this tune was a part of the original slow blues/jazz tunes. I'm sure George is happy to hear different versions from his original score.
Love yah, man! Yeah, we felt like we knew you... you sang and were in our hearts and our lives. You sang with such originality, purity and timelessness... there's never been anyone like you, Al Jarreau!!
Mr Jarreau still has it !
For years now, The ultimate classiest live of it !
Only 2 million views, are you kidding me? Loved this performance, and it makes my new playlist of over 40 renditions of Summertime, very special, thank you so much for this wonderful historical snapshot!

In this colaboration Al made Alita shine like a real master would do. Alita, you are amazing. Well done! I keep viewing it over and over . Such a happy and inspiring colaboration! Thank you for posting,
Wow, thank you so much!
THE LEGEND!!!! Always have loved him. MAN ALITA!! I am new to who you are but I am an instant fan. I would love to see you do something like this with Kem.
Janis Joplin has always been my idol, Jesus first, but I haven't sang this song in so many years it hurts me. Summertime was my forte, is my forte. They don't allow music where I live. That's pretty sad seeing that I've been a musician since before I was born. Noticing on my birth certificate my parent's occupation as musicians, and to think I actually live in such a city. Well my singing days will be over soon and I hope it's not too late to find a place that will allow music once again. It's a dying art. Unless you're into rap which I am not. My ex-husband deceased, my guitar player, had one song that he wanted me to record. If I could only record that song , with practice of course, I will have fulfilled my promise. I haven't heard Al Jarreau since 1989. This is quite a treat. I was working. I've never been to a concert and also hope to do that before I leave this earth. Thanks to Al Jarreau for making this possible and thanks to CZcams! I can hear Al Jarreau sing Summertime and make up for all the concerts I never got to see because I was on stage supporting a family. You know my hair caught on fire too and it was bushed out and very long like Gino Vannelli in 1979. Thank God they put me out! I love jazz and I love to scat. I need a place to jam.
Al, as you enter your higher dimension...we celebrate you...we honor you. LIVE ON !
I am so great full to meet him as he gave me and my room mate to front row seats and later backstage I video our meeting he was joking around what a talented and great human being my idol for life Viva Las Vegas where I seen him three times
I agree. I saw Al in London 1982/1983 when he was promoting his album "This Time" I was so sad when he passed

Wow!
Goes great with my morning coffee.
I wished I could've gotten the chance to experience Al Jarreau in concert. I grew up with his music in the 80's before I ever knew what jazz was. His music made me feel so good as kid growing up. Hearing his voice brings back some good memories! This was a great performance!!! WONDERFUL🤩☺🤗😎🙂😊👍

Ms. Alita, that finish, though! What a wonderful entry on your resume to have sung with the late great Al Jarreau.

A beautiful Angel 😇
Thank you
Amazing
I think duet with Alita Moses is nice to liistened 🎉🎉
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting him backstage after he performed at Queens Royal College in Trinidad a few years ago. Was really humble and cool as ever. We exchanged Albums, autographed for each other, chatted about his Social work. I Will cherish that moment for the rest of my life. The greatest vocalist to ever walk planet earth. Ever!
One of my favourite composers and song. Al Jarreau is a great artist and it's marvellous that he doesn't feel so big that he can't be on the same stage as someone who shines like Alita. This is a fantastic duo.
Thanks so much!
She is incredible!
Al Jarreau was just a one of a kind phenomenon, and Alita Moses has so much talent. So Nice to here /see her showcased here. Love this duet piece ♥♥
Этот джазфест в МОНТРЕ... Знала о нем с детства...
