    Never, ever pull down on the arm….bring it up and double pull if you have too. 😢. When you unclamped, if there is slack in the line, then it will pull it tight. If you have the weight arm a little above, where it should be, and you unclamp it, it will pull any extra tension it needs to from the area that was clamped. You made that look twice as hard as it is actually is.

      This is not the correct way to use x-stringer. You should lift the tension bar to approximately 45 degree angle and let it fall while holding the gripper drum with your hand. You did it the opposite way (drop from top). In addition, manually forcing the bar into horizontal position will greatly increase string tension and could cause racquet damage.

      Agree with the comments, Harry is not taking advantage of the rachet feature of the Gamma and many other machines like this.
      The proper way to use the drop weight is to have the weight below horizontal then rachet up the tension until the weight is horizontal.
      I have strung many racquets on a drop weight, and while Harry is not technically wrong in waiting for the string to settle, it will take way too long to string a racquet!

    one of the mounting arms is put on backwards, you have them both point the same way. They should be pointing in the opposite directions.

  • @LiamApilado
    @LiamApilado Před 4 měsíci +10

    Pushing down on the weight is not a good idea. It’s made to let the weight “drop” hence the name drop weight machine. Also don’t recommend pulling tension when the strings are above the throat of the racket.
    To combat the high angle of the bar, ensure enough slack is in the string before pulling tension

    Harry, you have been spoiled by all those fancy, expensive stringing machines. I still use my crank-bait Ektelon Model "C" (really!) and a Gamma dropweight, 2-point machine. Never get in a rush. Glad I don't have to string for a primary income, too.

    I have used a stringer like that one for 20 years. I string a lot of racquets on it. I string for the city I live in on it. Lower the table. Connect the string with the lever arm in the lowest position. The lever arm does not need to be exactly horizontal for the tension to be right. A little above or below horizontal gives the same tension. I know this because I tested it with a calibration device. They are amazingly accurate in the tension you set.

    I have strung with the Gamma Progression II 200 for 8 years which is the sister drop weight stringer. I don't know if I would recommend your approach at all. The reason why you lost 10 lbs tension is that the way you started your mains. You really need a starting clamp because starting with flying clamps loses tension everywhere. Loop the string around the frame for the 1st two mains and take a starting clamp and lock one of the ends down on the outside of the frame. Pull tension on the other end and use the flying clamp to lock down the mains. Then start tensioning the side w/o the starting clamp. Afterwards, you can then pull the string with the starting clamp and begin tensioning that side as well. This is much better than using a flying clamp to start off with. However, you still would lose a couple of pounds of tension on one side of the starting mains because you lose some tension due friction around the frame. To avoid this would require two starting clamps and using them to lock both starting mains down by pulling both ends one after the other but do this procedure twice. Of course, some frames my not have the space to allow two starting clamps side-by-side. If not, just use the previous procedure. However, I have verified that this is the best way to do it with a tension gauge. I would not recommend forcing the weighted arm down as you won't get a consistent tension as some strings would be stretched and others are not. And it's really not that important to have the arm perfectly level as 5 degrees off level only contributes to about 1% tension error (even 10 degrees is not much). Of course, you can pre-stretch your strings before stringing to keep the tension lasting longer. Also I would recommend a similar procedure to starting the mains to start the crosses to avoid using a starting knot. Starting knots will enlarge the grommet causing it to split prematurely. I know most stringers use starting knots but I would avoid taking my racket to stringers that do, if you don't want to string your own racket.

      Great advice and I agree about starting knots, but only tennis and squash. For badminton starting knots are ok, recommended even.

    I've had my Klippermate for over 20 years. And I'll NEVER let anyone touch my Sticks again!!!!! I got mine in the early 2000's for $165, now they cost over $300. Once you get a table top stringer, it makes you understand rackets, strings type, tension and customizing your game. A must buy for the Serious Tennis Player!!!!!

    Left hand holds the crank, right hand lifts the weight. He has it backwards.Also u insert the string while the weight is down then ratchet it up, Makes it way easier to level it up rather than guessing every time how high to start the weight I can string one in 30 min with one of these. It does take some practice

    If you do the math, the arm being a few degrees off when settling has a negligible effect on the tension. However pushing down on the arm will change things drastically. This demonstration is so bad it's almost click-baity, like when people do things incorrectly to elicit comments. As an experienced stringer, why would you push down on the arm? When you pull tension on a Baiardo, do also pull back on the tension head manually after the machine has beeped?

  • @kneeslider9342
    @kneeslider9342 Před 4 měsíci +3

    I'll try again.
    You are still positioning the ERT 300 incorrectly on the string bed. It should be exactly in the middle. This means that the claws should be hooked at cross string 9 + 11 with 19 cross strings. The longest cross string (in this case string no. 10) is therefore always the center, which should lie exactly between the claws.
    With the Boom MP, for example, this is shifted upwards by one string. There, the longest string would be no. 11, due to the asymmetrical racket head.
    Please buy me a coffee for this info! *gg* ;-)

    • @vidpromjm
      @vidpromjm Před 4 měsíci

      He's referring to standing on the stringbed because it was strung too tight. Some players apparently did this to take care of initial tension loss before playing with the frame but in this instance its about compensating for a mistake in the stringing process.

    Cringe!!! Never push down on the drop weight arm. Never! Besides getting a wrong tension, you could just wreck that racket. Readjust the string on the wheel until you get the drop weight bar within 10% of being horizontal. Oh my... I use probably the most basic old school drop weight stringer by the way, the good old Klippermate and get very close to perfect tension every time.
