SECRETIVE Government Tunnels FEW HAVE SEEN under Dover - The DOE

  • The tunnels, located behind a quarried chalk face in Limekiln Street in Dover, are early 19th century in origin and were reputedly built by Napoleonic prisoners of war using earlier lime workings. They would have been built to provide storage, and were linked to a section of the Oil Mills tunnels to the west. Some of the brickwork is of a very high standard, particularly to the vaulted tunnels set back from the cliff face and to several domes which may have been rooflit originally via oculi
Within the main tunnels, steps lead down to a bricked up entrance to the harbour railway tunnel, beyond which a platform is believed to exist. The access passage was reputedly built during the Second World War to allow casualties to be clandestinely brought in from ships arriving from the continent. It is not known if this ever happened, however the tunnels were used as a public air raid shelter during the war, and reuse was planned in the early 1950s in the event of war with the Soviet Union.
The current name comes from a 1970s fire brigade plan and the origin is unclear (a link with the Department of the Environment has been suggested based on the initials).

In all honesty Matthew I just binge watched your exploring for 3 days straight and still going. Your humour and insight and your historical knowledge is fascinating. Your uploads should be on the national curriculum and shown in classrooms, so the children of today can understand the past that is vastly disappearing. Kudos to you and your fellow explorers 👍

Even people in Dover call them secret but we all know about their entry points or even explored them. Broke my finger from visiting one. Went to Buckland hospital and dr said had I been climbing. When I lived at Burgoyne Height as a army brat, we explored everywhere, the castle at night was fun. My brother went down where you guys are and thought he be found dead, ran out of light him and his mate. They came out in someone’s back garden.

What i would like to know is who built this elaborate tunnel system. You can see the brick work but they made the tunnels very small and tight but it appears the larger areas in the beginning could have been used for criminal activity. Why else would you go thru such trouble underground. I mean thats a shit ton of brick work.

Another great URBEX video, as usual. Seeing these Dover tunnels though, it further reaffirms that "the powers that be" have wasted yet another great resource by basically abandoning these structures. The division of Civil Defence should've been given total control and financial resources to keep these sites functional when the Ministry of Defense decided to cease using them. NEVER enough shelters, if a catastrophic event from above where to occur.
    Again, great video work. 👍

There are several that even fewer know about in Southern Kentucky around a small town called Monticello and the Daniel Boone National Forest. There are also caves there that GO VERY DEEP underground! There are some very scary stories about those secretly hidden caves. Its also believed there is a base in one of the mountains there. Haha as if that's not enough a couple of the UFO channels recently talked about there being 2 large orange glowing spheres and were seen entering the water at the man made lake they have called Cumberland lake. So there's a few things going on there that very few know about. Good luck getting locals to say anything. Its crazy no matter how you look at it. Many freaky things go on there and especially in the National Forest.

Dose anybody else wonder... how and when these places where build... I'm just a crazy guy with a lose grip on what many call "reality" but to me... the realm we live on is far more fantastic special than just a rock flying through space at a ridiculous rate...
To me I really feel like we life in middle earth ... a place that was quite alot more spectacular than we now know it... maybe we will never know. But there's a community of people, that like myself have a suspicion that those that now currently control the narrative ... have reset our history many many times. Hiding truths... fabricating false narratives ....
But I'm just a crazy guy
