  • ■The Shanghai GP has revealed what everyone has been asking for quite some time now - what is Lance Stroll still doing in Formula 1, despite knowing that while his father owns the team, he won’t be moving a muscle out of Aston Martin? However, with a new ‘giant’ in Honda knocking on the door of the Silverstone-based squad, we might be seeing some changes on this field, even though the official stance of Aston Martin remains unchanged. With that being said, should Lawrence have the most awkward conversation with his son, and is it finally time for the post-Lance era at Aston Martin?

There are only 20 seats in F1. Lance is taking a seat that a better driver would use to benefit the team and all other drivers on the grid. He is not only breaking down what Alonso is trying to build for the team but also breaking the chances of other serious drivers who are trying to hold on to their careers. It is time Lawrence learns to tell his son "no",

Lawrence might sell his stake in Aston Martin if his son isn't in the team. Lawrence's dream was to be a F1 driver himself. His father wanted him to do business. Lawrence is the driving force behind Lance and probably wants it more than his son does.
Lawrence is kind of living the life he missed out on through his son.

That's a shame for Laurence, but that xplains things I guess. Even if he himself HAD become an F1 driver & didn't score the points he should have, one wonders what his decision would have been re: retire or keep racing at the back? Probably the team would have decided for him! Now he owns the team so 🤔

F1 has had countless drivers across the years whose only real qualification for getting a drive has been the sponsorship money they have bought with them. Fortunately the blue-flag rules have been strengthened since the days when their interference with significant battles on track was a real factor. Stroll is slightly different in that his father is part-owner and chairman of the team, but that is more a reflection on the realities of modern-day economics than anything else. I'm sure several of the fathers of current F1 drivers like Sainz and Verstappen would also offer similar patronage if they were wealthy enough. The question is really would the team and Alonso benefit from having a stronger driver in the second seat, and I think the answer would be perhaps, but only very marginally.

Its a complete lack of both carrot and stick, he is too bad to fight the top drivers or bare minimum fully extract the car’s potential. Then he also has no repercussions outside of writing off a race weekend when he messes up. He makes these mistakes cos he is checked out and doesn’t care anymore, there is no motivation good or bad to make him try and the only people to blame is himself and his dad. To think if this clown wasn’t driving we probably would’ve been watching Drugovich in 23 and this season, what a missed opportunity.
