Happy New Year mate, all the best.
Looking forward to all of the great content this year. Your bike packing adventures are epic. Thank you for the hard work!!!!! 💻
Thx for the rundown on your gear. Glad to hear you're going on an adventure w/ Daisy, the channel has missed her.
Happy New Year! Looking forward to the adventures and rides of 2020
A little late, but happy new year, Francis. One of the best things in 2019, for me, was to stumble upon your CZcams channel.....appreciate all the hard work you put in to give us viewers quality videoes 👍👊💪
Thanks Martin and happy new year to you!
Happy New Year and hope that your adventures continue! Love your channel!
Thanks for the bike packing kit update. Best wishes for 2020 and more bike packing shenanigans.
Happy New Year!
Thank you for taking the time to do a rundown of your bike and gear post Vietnam.
Happy new year Francis.Wish you a lot more healthy bike adventures
Happy New Year Francis. More power to the legs and channel.

You're my Fav Bike Vlogger :D Cheers and HappyNewYear Francis
Happy New year Francis, keep the videos coming.
Happy New Year, Francis! Cheers from Tucson, Arizona!
Happy New Year guys.
Happy New decade!✌🏼👊🏼👍🏼
Have a funtastic 2020 Francis!
Whew, just binge watched the whole Vietnam series. What a trip. COVID sure hasn't been kind to another tour, though I did catch some of Lawrence's Project Italia. The Tailfin AeroPack seems to be great. Might have to look at this for a bikepacking setup.
We are convinced it's the single best bit of kit we had with us
Another great video Francis, thanks for sharing all the info, always interesting to know. You should do a how I edit video, would love to know your process
Ha P Noo Year Mr Cade! Hope 2020 is every bit as adventurous as last year. Thanks for all of the vids of 2019. You sure beat Netflix!
Happy new year🎊
Congratulations on a great year of riding and vloging. The channel has really gone from strength to strength. What next?
I know what Daisy’s new bike is, but I’ll not spoil the surprise. I was chatting last night. Lol
Class stead for the next adventure. 👍🏼
5:43 I'm exactly the same. I've gradually moved my MTB cleat further back until it couldn't go any further, and I much prefer it. Used to do a lot of running and had constant ITB issues with that (to the point where I basically quit it for cycling), so I'm definitely prone to it as you are
Not sure why I did so in the order I did, but just finished watching Vietnam after USA and then Australia and it's simply phenomenal content. Makes me want to go tour myself. My friends don't have the kind of money I do to spend on bikes though - or rather, I'm prepared to use a lot more of my salary on cycling than they are, so naturally it'll impact the rides we do eventually go on. But it's all about the adventure and the stories you bring back right, not whether you're on a brand new Carbon gravel bike, or a 35 year old steel fast-tourer.
As I understand it these trips are supported by your sponsors which is very convenient, however to us common folk that's not an option, so would be great to get some sort of video on how to prep/plan a tour. What sort of costs can be expected, etc.
How would you tour if all you had was £500, bike not included?
Appreciate this video is also 2 and a half years old now, but the above still applies :D
Happy nEw Year 🥳
I ride Panaracer Gravel King 38 slicks on my do everything Enigma Escape. Every ride I do involves both tarmac and rough gravel. After 2k the rear is showing sight wear and the front looks new. One puncture on each. Managed to seal with more sealant. Very smooth. Very supple. Give them a go.
HNY! I’m currently riding through Thailand and am running tubeless Vittoria Terrano Dry 33s (set up as tubeless) fantastic tire, grippy and rolls really well and really comfy at 40psi. No punctures yet.... 600kms in.
I uae 5W/40 on my chain - clean it off using diesel, then lubing again when reuired (The diesel lubes as well as cleans). I chnaged my chain this winter after running it for 3 years though Scottish winters. Only changed it as I was swapping my frame and all the kit had to come off.
Try the panaracer gravelking sk tyres next time, mine have done me proud on and off road setup with orange seal, running the 700x43 sizing. Used WTB before and they were nice but got flats all the time
Can't wait to see Daisy's new bike in full. Here's to a cracking 2020
This comment did not age well
@@nathanconaty8375 It most certainly did not, here's to a marginally better rest of 2020? 🤷♀️ 😂

The best way to start the year
Continental contact tires are great tires. Ive put 6500 miles on a pair and the back is just now needing replaced.
Watched the whole series over the last day or so. Epic doesn’t do it justice!! Well done.
thanks Nigel!
Francis Cade you’re a million light years ahead of these episodes now. Can’t say enough. The Casey Neistat of cycling vlogs.
Nobody edits, cuts., has the quality or just drops the changes the way you do.......except Casey!! Don’t change!!
Happy new year! Re: tyres, whassisface from BikeRadar was ratin' the wtb exposure 30c (they have a 36 too) as a super reliable nice riding (and slick) tyre for his winter bike in their best picks of the year vid. Very much lookin forward to seeing how Daisy's bike will look sat next to yours. Also, what the hell is that big round helmet with the visor at the giro party? i need it. Also also has matey seen the music video by "The Shoes" called "Time to dance"? Jake Gyllenhaal goes around brutally murdering people and it starts out with him in a fencing mask. Scarily reminiscent there.
Happy new year)))))
I can highly recommend Michelin power gravel tyres low rolling resistance comfortable fast on road and feel great on gravel too.
Happy New Year, Francis, to you and your merry band of travelers! Are you cranking up CCR in your clubhouse? I like their 11-minute version of Heard It Through the Grapevine.
Thank you Francis, wishing you all the best in 2020. Looking forward to your next on and off-road adventures. With the daily vlogging, I guess you have to cut the routine to the minimum. Yet cleaning-up the bike, chain and accessories will make a difference when you go long miles for weeks on. Punctures are annoying, mechanicals are problematic.
Good to see that you have heel since your crash at the Brooklyn RedHook Crit 2018
New bike day for Daisy... oh oh oh... next episode... Happy new Year
Have you tried 650b wheels with wtb 47 mm tyres? Pretty much all I use on the gravel bike now.
Looking forward to the camera strap episode. 📷
Can you give us a closeup of the Tailfin and how it looks after the 2 trips
Francis the aspect ratio of this video is perfect for iPhone 11 Pro Max 🧡
Thanks Francis. No idea you could get valve extenders for tubes without removable cores. A bag of inner tubes suddenly becomes viable.
You went riding without tubes that would fit your rims ? What an amateur mistake 😆😆 .... you'd NEVER catch me making that same rookie mistake (TWICE ...) 🙄🙄
NO SIREEE
Happy New Year dude 🤜🤛
and a happy new year to you and yours, if you could only afford a topeak roadie rack rx pannier would you stick to using a backpack ? as this is the only two things i can afford would love to have a tailfin but .... thanks
Lawrence is sitting in the background? Lawrence is epic, even if he dose not know himself! . fRANCIS jAMES AND lawrence are a force of nature!
A Schwalbe Marathon Mondial will definitely be insanely durable but in my experience they feel extremely stiff compared to TL tires and of course heavy. I'd probably recommend either Donnely X'plor MSO or Maxxis Rambler in Front and a Maxxis Re-fuse in the rear.
Great video. Love the breakdown of kit. Really useful. Interest in what laptop and specs you use to edit on the fly.
Asus Zenbook pro from about 6 months ago, it's the highest spec available though - reduces export time significantly!
@@Cade_Media Is that the duo screen model? Have been looking at that. Must be decent with the extra screens for editing on the fly
@@merseypicsvids the track pad is a screen, but I've switched it off!
@@Cade_Media Thanks for the info. Been looking for a new laptop to handle editing photos and video. Knew you'd be the man to ask - especially with all the excellent videos you churned out on the road in Vietnam.
Nice rundown of what worked and what didn't. With room to improve on tires, if you were to go back what would you bring this time?
Nice video.
What did you use to put your bike on the walk!?!
There could be a video in it???
I am going on a bike packing trip in South East Asia in February. What spare bike parts/tools would you recommend. Would you also recumbent taking some wend wax and tubeless sealant. Looking forward to your 2020 trips
Sweet stuff from Skin Grows back! Only for you? How about the rest of us smaller stature people riding XS to S sized compact geometry bikes?
It's all available! Not custom made ... Although Jamie keeps selling out so you have to be quick...
What's the orange filter bottle?
Did 3000KM on a Conti Ultrasport on various terrain in Ireland - NO PUNCTURES! Eventually retired them last month to preserve their possible world record! :)
Happy new year!!, what break pads would you recommend for carbon rims?
I've only run discs for quite a while now!
Francis > Spit my tea @ breakfast (ie: Fencing Mask shot) When you can start a New Year with a laugh like that, it might be a Good One !!
Thanks & Happy New Year to All...
Just some info;
A guy in Victoria Australia “BIKEBAGDUDE” makes custom waterproof bikepacking gear, (home business) but the quality is top notch and the gear is made to fit your particular bike with zips and access you need or want. Check him out! Small time operator trying to make it in the bicycle world. Not sponsored or a friend, just used his gear and it works.
I love your videos and your content is super interesting! I was wondering how you stop your valve cores from getting sealant in them? Mine always get clogged up and I have to clean them fairly regularly. Thank you
I have never had them clog up!
@@Cade_Media that's weird maybe I'll change sealant and see if that makes a difference, currently using cafe latex
I just checked my rear valve core and it's also clean.
Happy new year guys, quick question re the Vietnam trip how was the Osmo Action camera?
More reliable than the GoPro, image quality comparible, I like it!
A question on/for Skin Grows Back if I may ... ?
For the bike-packing adventure(s) I'm pondering, I will have to carry medicine which ought to be kept chilled. Do they by any chance produce any sort of bag/pouch with thermal insulation properties? 🤔🤔
I could probably get away with a reqular frame bag and some chiller blocks but it would be nice to do it properly ...
Ta
Depending on size and packing of the medication, could a thermos and some ice work? I know finding ice might not be the easiest thing in the world in some places though
That's a good idea@@Thejiminatorful thanks! I'd be packing a couple of small vials of insulin with some refreezable chiller blocks so I'm sure i could make a small thermos work 👍👍
Hey Francis! Do you use the Axle or Frame mount option on the Tailfin?
Axle, so I can use it on any of my bikes!
HNY Francis! #Party :-)
Soooooo... if the camera strap isnt made anymore.. does this mean we can get a review/pics sent direct so we can make our own..? 😁
Any chance you can convince James to do the same with his kit? I guess the Open hasn't made it out of the box yet though?!
Yeah he's in Antigua... But maybe when he's back!
@@Cade_Media I took it to Antigua and left it there
Please provide links for products. It would be helpful to understand the products more for this who don’t know all the products. Otherwise happy new year.
Would be nice to hear from the other two guys what they think about their set up. If the sponsor alowes other bikes 😉
We can do this and it's a good idea! Wilier are nice and chill
Kryptek camo (Typhon black)
Chapeau
Bottom bracket and wheel bearings survived?
Yep, no noticeable wear at all.
Great way to start the new year although technically we stared the new year a day ahead if you 🤩🤪
🤩💫😎👍🇦🇺🌟
so you used SPDs for the whole trip but on your road bike you usually use SPD-SL. my question, how much better does SPD-SL perform to you, because I never used SL only SPD up to now, maybe just a short rating from 0-10, did they perform different when you did those long rides over many hours?
There's too many variables, my road shoes fit much better than my MTB ones because they don't make a wide version.
I noticed James had a couple of knobbly tires strapped to his tailfin for the entire tour - could that not have solved your back tyre issue? Why didn’t you use them?
Didn't have any long valve wide tubes, we could only find road ones
@@Cade_Media I was wondering this myself. Thanks for answering.
What sort of brake wear did you get in Vietnam, did you have to change pads?
Not much at all, still got some meat on. I guess there wasn't that much elevation in the grand scheme of things.
That frame. Is it carbon or ?
I’m contemplating a Canyon Grail AL for flight travel. Somehow I feel I should keep my carbon bike at home. 😆
Yeah carbon! I'd rather travel with carbon, at least you can repair it if it's damaged, unlike alloy.
Steel would probably be the best choice for longevity, but having said that I've never had an issue and flown a lot with my carbon bikes - just need to be careful when packing.
How do u repair carbon if it ever happen?
The only reason for me to get Grail is because it’s AL actually. And also the look of it. 😆😆😆
Daisy's is *definitely* a Wilier Triestina, not a Canyon. Nice job @Francis Cade 👍
@@reddotcycling6971 with a carbon repair, lots of places can do it - you used to have to find a sailing boat carbon repair plage but a few bike ones have popped up now.
I had a toptube repaired for £200 a while back.
Belated HNY to you too.
You lot are probably too cool to use Garmin but the battery life on the new 830 I just got is epic and I understand the mapping/course routing is meant to be great too...just sayin’
Btw bike packing in Argentina next....
Too cool for Garmin?! I'll use whatever works!
Francis Cade 🤣 fair comment... I’m not going to tempt fate but so far mine’s doing what it should
TAILFIN...Seatpost Extender?
Francis you didn’t fix any tire but James did it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣and also a happy new year 🎊🎆🎈
Salam dari fixie Pekalongan kak
Happy NY!! any chance I can get my skingrowsback delivery too please? +1 month since I ordered through the company website and nothing. haaaaaaaaaa
I think black friday meant they had too many orders to deal with - mine was sent before and was sitting in customs for a couple of months
@@Cade_Media thx :)
Tyres are always risk benefit thing. I run as light and fast tyres as I can. Mostly for the fun and feel.
CZcams has been an absolute nightmare recently. Have you considered posting videos in a different platform?
Exactly why I prefer fast tyres!
Why has CZcams been a nightmare?
@@Cade_Media ads and the level of tracking is out of control. Plus the format of presenting the content in the main page show sensationalist videos. I am mostly fed up with the amount of tracking they do.
I can see why there’s such a big gap Lawrence videos, he wasn’t doing much work behind you 😂
Hellooo in 2020
Second 😭
Not a good start to the year
Laptop bag ?
Forgot to mention because I left it at home - worked perfectly
Francis Cade I think it looks like a great solution for touring I start my trip from Gold Coast to Perth 99% wild camping in 10 days just over 900 km not as fast as you guys but stoping at a lot of bars on the way lol
State of my meme page after Vietnam 😬last
hny
First ;)
Did someone say whisky
Your chainrings and cassette look completely shagged.Probably the chain as well.
they are just dirty, chain has barely stretched too and that would wear first ... can't imagine the motor oil was great for the whole system though
Time 8:25 what you got your girl a new bike what are you trying to tell her..PELETON
What? no Tattoo this time? lol
