  • Face to face with the most iconic bird of Uganda: the shoebill. The Mabamba swamp in Lake Victoria near Entebbe is an amazing place for birding and is one of the most famous locations to track this astonishing bird. The swamp is home to a population of 12 shoebills and it took some effort for our guide and the boat driver to find one of these wonderful birds in the swamp as the papyrus surrounding the channels is very tall. Finally, we were rewarded with a close encounter with this amazing bird.
    Welcome to our birding and wildlife safari to Uganda in August 2019. We stayed two nights at the wonderful “The Boma” hotel in Entebbe. Our first destination was the Mabamba swamp where we had our very first encounter with the majestic shoebill and other water birds. The area of Entebbe offers many different species of birds and was an ideal start of our birding trip around Uganda. Immediately upon arrival, we spotted great blue turacos and black-and-white-casqued hornbills.
    For animal identification, please refer to the video subtitle or to the species list below.
    With best regards,
    Sandra and Markus

    I only need to walk by the canal here where I live in Ireland to see the likes of herons, egrets, ducks, swans and sometimes cormorants. But the more exotic hornbills and shoebills and such would be worth the journey to Uganda to see. Wonderful video.

      Hallo Doris, ja, das war ein Highlight gleich zu Beginn der Reise. Also für Vogelbeobachtung ist Uganda schon eine Reise wert, wir hätten noch viel mehr Vögel gesehen, wenn wir mehr Zeit gehabt hätten. Aber man kann einfach nicht alles in einer Reise unterbringen. Aber ja, diesen unglaublichen Vogel einmal in freier Wildbahn zu sehen war schon ein einmaliges Erlebnis und auch die Bootsfahrt durch den Sumpf hat uns riesig Spass gemacht. Viele liebe Grüsse, Markus

      @SandraMarkusTrachsel  Před rokem

      Vielen herzlichen Dank Walter! Das freut uns sehr dass Dir unsere Videos gefallen und Du wertschätzt, wieviel Leidenschaft und Hingabe dahinter steckt. Wir hatten für den Schuhschnabel nur etwas mehr als einen halben Tag auf dem Victoria-See zur Verfügung und hatten uns so sehr gewünscht, dass wir ihn sehen. Und wir mussten lange warten, bis er endlich aufgetaucht ist und dann ist er sofort weg geflogen. Aber unser Guide und der Bootsfahrer haben alle Hebel in Bewegung gesetzt und sogar das Boot über seichte Stellen hinweg geschoben und gezogen, so dass wir am Schluss diese wunderbaren Aufnahmen machen konnten. Es ist jedes Mal eine Lotterie ob man etwas zu Gesicht bekommt oder nicht und dann gibt es entweder Freudentränen oder halt nur ein Schulterzucken. Aber das ist in der Natur und bei Tieren so, mal sind sie da, dann manchmal leider nicht. Ganz viele liebe Grüsse, Markus
