      I love it! You'll make it happen. Just remember to have the driver pull you out of the water slowly. We have a video on how to drive for foiling -- czcams.com/video/nX6KnJiMUuA/video.html highly recommended. When you're starting it's a real partnership between rider and driver.

    Thanks again for your great videos! I have the need to pump but from a totally different path - I first kite foiled, then wing foiled, and just started surf foiling this week. I already want to start connecting waves and need to pump back out! We are setting up a dockstand on our docks to start pump foiling. Your tips and explanations are invaluable! Great videos! Thanks!!!!!

    This winter, we traded in the stern drive for a G23. Tomorrow we are trading in our 03 suburban for a new F-250 Diesel Tremor so we can better pull the new boat. With the Armstrong gear, I think I’m close to qtr million invested in wake foiling and I blame YOU GUYS😎

      Hey Donny! I know you're a huge fan of Johnny so I've copied his response here:
      That is all 72cm mast. Front wings 1250, 1550 V1 and V2. 232 tail original, new and Flying V.
      I am 180 Tim 165.
      It is possible to do these transfers with all of those wing setups. Work rate will be different.
      In a nutshell smaller wing have to be very precise with your pumping and you need to work pretty hard to keep the foil in the zone.
      Larger foils have a slow stall speed so they stay ‘up’ easier but tend to be slower at their pumping speed so you don’t stall easily but your forward progress is slower.
      The new 1550V2 is awesome by thinning it out they have found the right balance. Best foil for the ‘fish ladder stuff’ with minimum effort. My favorite all around though is 1250. Loose fast great behind boat and in real surf.
      Lastly the key to pumping is having a fast exit velocity and then maintaining that same speed and drive. That’s what Tim is doing with the ‘run-up’. Exit out of the wave so you have lots of speed then maintain it and pump keeping the mast as high as possible without breaching.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Kurt -- great to hear. It depends upon the size of your wake and the boat. If it's a BIG wake then it's easier to go 1-2 outside ladder. If it's a small boat (outboard or older wake boat) then 1-1. The turbulence is the key so squat low and go for it!

      Tim

    Wakefoil board 20l or Wingfoilboard 60l? Hi, I am addicted to wingfoiling, I am 87kg and have a 110l board and I am doing great, 90% of gybes in regular and 50% in goofy. We are starting to do some wakefoiling maybe twice a month in order to have fun and improve our foiling. Would you buy a specific wakefoil board of approx 20l or would you buy a second wingfoil board of lets say 60l which I sould use for wakefoiling and wingfoiling (or at least try in strong winds). The foil we would be using for wakefoinling is 1550, tc60 and 300 or 232. Many thanks!!

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Ramon -- what a great question! I'd say - get them both :-). All kidding aside -- you certainly can by a strong wind wing foiling board and use it...but it won't be as fun behind the boat but that's all relative. I would say, optimize for what you'll do the most. You certainly can foil any board behind the boat and I personally get a kick out of it (I've done 80L in the FL inner coastal, a big F1 the other day here) but you just don't get the performance that you'll see out of something like the SKT311 or the FFB Whip. If you're going to be behind the boat often -- get a good board for it - stiff - carbon. For wake foiling you'll want to be on the 232 tail wing (or even better - the flying V - check out our review here: czcams.com/video/HMVt8knUnqg/video.html). You'll love the V for wake foiling and for wing foiling -- it is fantastic! Shoot us a note if you'd like to buy one.
      Great job on the winging btw. Where are you from? What water are you winging on?
      Keep up the good work and keep in touch! Hopefully you follow us on Instagram at halflifet.5

      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm a bit confused - apologies. Are you talking a full Naish setup? If behind the boat - yes - 75cm is ideal. You can make the 90cm work but 75cm is better.

    I’m exactly one year into my journey and I’ve got most of my transitions down now. The one that still eludes me is going front to back. I noticed that you guys are going WAY out there before moving back toward the boat but the one goofy rider stayed much closer. Is it easier going far out there and coming back?
    Also, I haven’t tried that cross over drop one back I saw in the video which is so rad. Which approach do find to be easier for dropping back waves?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey Carson -- way to go! We're happy to do a zoom lesson to see what's happening in your ladder transitions. Just shoot some ~30 videos, email us at halflifet.5@gmail.com and we'll set up time. In the interim -- here's a few things to thinking about:
      1) For the ladder 1st to 2nd outside -- it's all about the exit. Load up on speed and carve harder than you think you need to. This will put you in position to get on the second wave regardless of how far out you go. spy the tip of that second wave and head there...you'll end up just behind it.
      2) My favorite is the internal drop back. It's just like a left to right transition but once past the main turbulence take a turn toward the next wave back. I'm front quarter of the wave and you'll end up ~1/2 way back. Hammer that front leg as you come over to ensure you don't breach and immediately head down the line.
      Hope this helps! We've had a lot of success for the Half-Life nation doing Zoom lessons so let's make it happen!
      Cheers,
      Tim

      @carsonking3798 Před 3 lety +1

      @@HALFLIFEVIDEO Thanks for the kind offer Tim! Honestly I haven't tried the drop back more than once or twice because I know I'm likely to fall off and make my wife come pull me up again. I think the big tip is the hard carve out. Just pulling off to the side and pumping while dropping back kills my speed while you guys are holding speed through carving out and back (the fish hook replay was great). My foil could also be part of it as I'm riding an Infinity 99 which is probably slower than what you guys ride but it does pump pretty well.
      I'll train up my 10 yr old on my iphone our next time out and see if I can get a clip to analyze. I'm really psyched to try the internal drop back since I never have!
