The 742 is nice too, if you want to spend a little less. Nib is #10, so smaller, but not too small, like the 74. You still get that big nib feeling from the 742, and I’ve seen it for as low as $150. I have a black 743 with an FA nib, which is soooo nice. Really wanted the 743 Verdigris, finally ordered one - it took me forever to find a seller offering it with the more interesting nib sizes. Have a Verdigris fine-medium being shipped today.
I paid $336 for a fine-medium at Nibsmith, an American seller and the only American seller that offers the Verdigris in the full range of nib sizes. I could not find it for less anywhere, except maybe eBay. Believe me, I looked hard. You might find it in black for less than $336 on one of the Japanese sites, like Pensachi. Or Amazon Japan.
I got my verdigris yesterday. I agree the box is too much. Love the pen, got it with a fine-medium nib. It’s perfect. But, I already have a bottle of the Namiki Blue ink that came with my 823., and I rarely use it. I would have preferred the pen in a smaller box, without the ink, and maybe for less money. But I love the pen, it took me forever to find a seller that had the Verdigris with the full range of nib sizes.
So where did you get it?
eBay - I bought it in the fall of '23...just haven't gotten around to reviewing it until now.
I like this pen and love the color! :)

I would trade both of my 823s for equivalent 743s. Especially the Verdigris color. So nice.
The 743 is a great pen. Mine has the SF nib and it is a glorious writer. Hope you enjoy yours.
Gorgeous color but I can't justify the premium price so I ordered a 743 in Black from Japan at a really good price.
yeah - it's a shame this color is a US exclusive - make it harder to purchase at more reasonable prices
Do you have recommendations for Japanese vendors who will ship to the US?
I don't, unfortunately. I travel to Asia a fair bit for work so I tend to ship to friends in Asia and pick up from there.
Where do you find this verdigris version for $200? I can't find it on ebay and the cheapest from the retailers is $336. Thanks.
He doesn't respond with where. Unfortunately.

$195?!? Did u have a discount code?
I wish he would tell us. :(
All I see is 336. I would pull the trigger under 200
@@JoannMarie7612 I know, right? It must’ve been used.
@@AlejandroPato-Fuego That’s all I see as well. I just can’t do that. Especially when u can scoop one for 200 on eBay.
I actually bought this one on eBay!
My Custom 74 was a dud. Nib was scratchy and skipped. My Metropolitan wrote 100x better. I will try this one at some point.
Same with my CH92, got a fine and it is very scratchy, i am used to sailor nibs so this definitely isn’t feedback lol
