So I got on my first MTN bike in 1989. In the early 90’s the Schwinn Paramount was the premier MTB that I could not afford! I used to drool over that bike. Awesom.

That is the whole idea of a build like that. Mix and match to see what works and what doesn't. I call it a "velcro" build....throw stuff at it, see what sticks! Fun build. Thanks for another great video!

I just love the part when you open the drawers and boxes chock full of parts - a mechanic's dream. I unfortunately live in an apartment with a small cellar where my small bike parts shoe box competes with the rest of the family's stuff. Ahhh how I miss the full garage where one can just sprawl out. Thanks again for the great video

Brings back memories of my Paramount PDG 90 with a gorgeous red, white, and blue frame, and a Marzocchi suspension fork, my first suspension equipped bike. It was a great bike but the seatpost seized in the frame (my fault for never greasing the seatpost), and an aggressive last-ditch effort to unseize the seatpost toasted the frame sadly. Nice to see you bring a PDG back to life.

Appears to be a Reynolds 853 Nevada City. That’s a tough one on what to do with it. Clean it up and ride it is the obvious, but not so exciting for a video. Not quite “racey” enough to justify a retromod build with a new groupset. Could do a flat bar roadie. Or a touring setup for bikepacking

Yeah unfortunately while cassettes and chains are pretty interchangeable you cannot usually use a Sram derailleur with a Shimano shifter and vice versa. The pulls and throws of the shifters and derailleur don't match well. The only exceptions I know about are Sram MRX shifters which are specifically designed to be used with Shimano derailleurs.

Awesome build Oldshovel ...nice attitude ...sometimes it don't have to be pretty , it just has to work properly ! Love that ! To the shifter situation most Sram have printed on the cage of the derailleur the shift ratio ... if it's 1:1 then it needs a Sram shifter because they build also deraileurs and shifter compatible to shimano parts but those have a different actuation rate . Well done mate ! I just was confused that you din't do a paint job on this xD but maybe in the future ...who knows ! Can't wait for the next video !

@@oldshovel Yeah I can totaly understand that ! But it's the same struggle with the older 6-8 gear derailleur those have only about 1mm play on the upper pulley and that's why they don't work with 9 and up but I always modify them to 9 what is very easy to do, and because I personaly love the look of the older derailleur.
