*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*
Well , I 'm 67 now gave up the mountain bike and bought exactly this bike . Well i could not be happier , it rides so smooth . I did buy a riser quill stem , and a easier to peddle rear gears. because the old owner was much stonger then me he had a close ratio race gear cassette . I have owned so many bikes old and new .Silky smooth and the ultega shifters still work wonders . but this is a dream ride .After just a fw mods for my comfort , I can't wait to ride it again and again .
Shimanos are dang indestructible. So many old Shimano parts in this channel.
2001 Lemond 853 frame, I upgraded everything, carbon crankset, carbon seat post, carbon handlebar/stem, new 11 speed 105 shifting and a new saddle. After that a set of Campy Zonda wheels. She weighs in just over 19 lbs and rides like a dream. The 56cm frame fits me like a glove. Needless to say she is my lifetime bike!
Sounds like a sick bike
@@vintagesteel I still like her!!!
@@ronbell7920 how do you fit a modern 11 speed group set with the frame? Is it possible or did you need to make the rear spacing bigger to accommodate the bigger cassette? Looking to get a 99 lemond that’s near my area and wondering if I could transfer my r8000 group set on it
@@TheSpiritOfTheWest , I have not had any issues setting a 130mm axle into a 125mm spacing that was the old standard on a steel bike frame. Steel is more forgiving than aluminum and aluminum may not be able to handle this. Luckily for most aluminum frame bikes are built to the new standard, so upgrading is easy. One just has to lose the spacer that may come on an older freehub.
@@ronbell7920 los ejes de 125 mm son de los años 80's o anteriores, para mediados de los 90's todos eran de 130 mm.
There's nothing more satisfying than taping a set of bars
I work as a bike mechanic and everytime I watch your video I think "damn this guy does restoring the best compared to others". It's so nice to watch these videos.
Thank you my friend 😁
you all probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot the password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Wesley Joshua instablaster :)
@Gideon Morgan i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Gideon Morgan it worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you really help me out :D
I still have my 2001 Lemond Zurich road bike. And it's still one of the sweetest riding bikes I have ever owned.
Same. Love my '99 Zurich. Guy that had it before me rode until he passed and I bought it from his grand-kids.
At the end I thought, you’ll say “I keep it” 😄
You can see it in his eyes for a fraction of a second XD
Lol when I got it for my dad I wanted it and every time I’ve worked on it I’ve wanted it. I even tried to trade my bro for it... perhaps someday it will be mine. 😁
I was kind of expecting him just jumping up the bike and pedal away, never to be seen again.
@@oldshovel The makings of a legitimate heirloom for sure! I can't imagine a world in which that bike wouldn't be practical for commuting in the next century. Aside from some wild and rare events.
dont cycle anymore but i love these older bikes. classic
Watching brand new bikes getting built up is pretty nice but nothing beats an old bike restoration to me. There's just something so special about it.
I too repair bikes and sell them. There is something really special about a steel road bike. I have restored steel and carbon before and while the carbon was definitely lighter, a really nice steel road bike is great at absorbing bumps and looks really really good.
Agreed steel feels so good.
I was drooling the whole time!! Anyone else?
YES, YES AND ANOTHER YES! FINALLY A ROAD BIKE ON THIS AMAZING CHANNEL
Thanks
Lemond has one hell of a story to his life. Nice to see you make her look perty again😀
Thanks
As much as I love new tech, carbon, etc. I still love the look of the classics! Well done!
Amazing bike. I still ride a Reynolds 853 here in the UK. They're very common. Reynolds tubes were produced for the framework for the Spitfire fighter plane during WW2. Gregg Lemond was a very decent rider. Went on to build some great bikes. I love this bike.
Lemond was more than just "Decent". He and his bike company a bit later on were stitched up by Trek (who built them) and Armstrong who despised GL.
That is a tuxedo with wheels. Such a beautiful bike.
Agreed. Thanks for watching.
This tune up rebuild is better than any new bike assembly video out there. This is so much more satisfying to give an old bike new life!
I've been actively looking for a project bike like this to restore for use this summer
I just ran into your site today and made a comment on your red GT on how to bring back the original shine on paint using Maguier's Ultimate Compound, which you should do from now on after you clean the frame & fork. Oh yes, I love your videos. Anyways, I'm a mechanic and own my private pro bike shop on Mercer Island 5 min from downtown Seattle. When the pandemic started early last year, my shop was flooded with incredible, perfectly brand new vintage bikes that had maybe 5 or 10 miles of use. One of them was a LeMond Zurich exactly like yours complete with the original tires that still had that fuzz line down the middle. Most came from couples when they were dating in the 80s and bought expensive bikes to impress each other, and after they got married simply hung them up and never used them again. So when the pandemic hit, they thought about riding their bikes again and bought them to me for a tune-up. So for a few months, my place was like a museum, and vintage nuts would come every day to see what was new. Ahhh I love bikes.
I love how you appreciate the craftsmanship that went into older bikes
Thanks
I love old steel road bike. Though my main road bike is a Raleigh Technium which is steel and aluminum. But the care you gave to this bike is well beyond anything I’ve ever given to my bikes.
While I really like your paint jobs, when the video started I was worried your were going to paint it. Glad you left it original, looks great!
I enjoy these restorations but I get triggered whenever he reaches for the sandpaper and removes paint on the frame or erases the branding from the crank.
That said repainting everything might be better for a commuter bike or one that gets left "locked" at school
Maybe if he masked the red and rainbow sections on the down tube/seat tube and left them original and left the rest a nice pearl white
Looks like a piece of art! Thank you👍
Turned out great! Nice job.
wonderful restoration so much love
This is a tune up!?!? This is a full restoration!! I can safely say I’ve never in my life polished my cranks. Hahaha. Respect to you good sir.
Really cool to see the process and the knowledge and the craftsman ship. Thank you for sharing
What a beautiful beautiful bike!
My first road bike while going to college in 08. Well done dude.
Great video and I love these old school bikes.

Good job. Very beautiful!!!👍👍👍
Love your CZcams channel. Continue with the excellent work
I got the exact same bike - very light weight, very nice comfortable ride. I would personally keep it. My bike was in worse condition.
Looks fresh and new. Great job !
Bravo! One of my favorite bikes to ride. You did a supreme job on bringing it back. Love my old Lemond's.
Great job of giving the bike new life
Nice work and I hope your brother will appreciate that bike as much as you do! Good well done!
Awesome restoration! So great to see my classic bike like new! Good job Rob!
Lol thanks dad. 😁
I had a 99 lemond and it was one of my favorite bikes ever.
Extending the life of bikes is the whole reason why I changed careers from teaching to bike mechanics. It’s such a shame to throw away. Thanks for making these videos.
It came out great !! More road bike restorations please !!
Lol I’ll do what I can.
I still have a Lemond Tete De Course and love the ride! Thanks for showing that old bikes still produce a great ride!
As always ,another one of you great restores. I hope you continue to add road bikes to your repertoire of restores moving forward. Stay safe & healthy looking forward to more of your vids. Take care for now
Thanks Alex
YOU ARE BACK! Welcome back my friend, and what a beautiful project to bring in 2021. I’m excited to see what you have in store for the year and how you grow. Lovely restore
Awesome thanks
I love your videos. So relaxing to watch and love the bikes.....and very educational.
Thanks
Lovely job . Something very satisfying about bringing a bike back to life 😀
Thanks
Thanks for the great video. Working on the restoration of a ‘97 Trek 1220 aluminum road bike myself.
Wow! A very nice bike before. An absolute showpiece after. Very well done.
I had a 1999 (2000?) Lemond Alp d'huez. Brilliant bike. I miss it. I loved the geometry and wish modern bikes used it.
Wonderful job love those "corsa" road bikes
Those cranks 😳. So rad 👍
Wow amazing Transformation 😮
Excited to see a road bike on here. Although I am moving from the road onto gravel and really loving that. My first love was the road.
Fab it brings back so many memories bud, I used to ride a folding bike to university and later an old road bike, those good old days 👍
Awesome
Excellent job as usual
Great bike
Love that a bike can be improved so much by a thorough clean and polish and maintenance, it must have been well looked after
I own a leMond Tourmalet from 2004 (the same year my daughter was born) with a brushed aluminium finish and green decals. Apart from the fact it looks beautiful it really does inspire confident riding. Highly underrated in terms of feel and the finish on the welding is the best I have ever seen on a bicycle. Mine will stay with me and hopefully, one day, my daughter will appreciate it too.
Nice! I just finished up re-doing a Lemond Buenos Aires of about the same vintage. Great video!
I love vintage steel road bikes and l love your channel. Finally, my two loves have come together!
I just bought this frame/ fork /headset...cool to see this build.
Have been dabbling in a bit of bike restoration and am currently working on a project and have drawn much inspiration from watching your brilliant videos👍
Awesome, the bike is a beauty. Great job!
Well done Sir, much respect from Liverpool, England 🏴 👏🏻🤙🏻👏🏻
glad to see you uploaded..really nice bike!

I'm watching all your videos to help me restore a 1988 Schwinn Caliente'. Thank you for your content and links.
You can see the love you have for that awesome old racer I hope your brother gives you the chance to get it from him when he's done with her
I hope so too 😁

How I like the sound when cutting the shift cables. It's pure magic. As always great job. Greetings from Germany.

That's awesome refresh on ol school...
Great pleasure to watch the restoration, so grateful the original paint is intact, thank you😘

Fabulous, your brother is a lucky person!!! Nice work, I especially like the attention to detail with sanding/buffing the cranks and seat-post - GREAT JOB!

Hello my friend, I am just in love with your Channel. I am 40 years and i love old bikes. Like you say.... Nostalgia!!! I am a photographer for more than 15 years and i love my job. But lately i felt the need of a new hobbie. And I am learning to fix my bike. Everyday is a new thing and i just feel love for it. My next step will be paint a bike. I already painted some parts of the bike. All that said.... i can say you inspire me and gave me a new thing to play with. Thank you so much.
Ps: I was lookin for some Oury here to buy, but saddly we dont have here.
Awesome
Beautiful piece of jewelry, great bike and again a clean job. Greetings from Germany
Thanks
I remember wanting to buy a similar LeMond frame, & couldn't I quite afford it. Big fan of LeMond since started racing in '87. Thanks for posting, keep them coming! 🤟🤠
Rode and raced a Zurich for a couple of years. Greg knew what he was doing in terms of frame design. I've never ridden anything so comfortable for hours in the saddle. Not a "quick" bike, certainly not first choice for criteriums, but for a long road race, very tough to beat! And Rolfs are great wheels! Bike wound up looking just great! Loved the video!
Thanks
This brings back a lot of memories. I worked as a mechanic in a bike shop that sold Lemond and the owner rode on the first TdF 7-11 team and was a good friend of Greg’s. Lemond would call the shop to talk to my boss frequently but he’d always pretend to have a woman’s voice to try to fake us out so we wouldn’t bother him LOL
Lol awesome story. Thanks for sharing.
I love those old Rolfs!
Beautiful!
So satisfying!
Thanks
Excellent, as always! Thank you for these lovely videos and work. Your younger brother must to be proud of you! Congrats from Madrid, Spain
Thank you my friend
