- Battery test , is 100 miles possible with 1 charge and a 500 wh battery, over 100 miles in a day, mainly along the trans pennine trail in South Yorkshire.

@Alterego i did it yesterday with my giant fathom e+3 i tested it and can go now to 40kph very short ride. I can go higher if i want to.

Thank you for the video. All in Eco, flat route, I'm not surprised. The problem with e-bikes is that terrain declivity, higher modes, wind, etc. have a huge influence on range, and from 100 miles you go down to 20 miles in no time. But since you topped the battery up at the cafe, there's no challenge here.
I hear what you’re saying and with the benefit of hindsight I wouldn’t have topped up the battery
Terry, for my benefit it would have superb to watch you drain the battery without recharge. I predict you'd get the same result, but it may have done more. I'm assuming the ride was on a towpath and therefor level throughout. Thanks for your efforts, real good information. Gary
There were some hills involved but it’s about as flat as you can get in South Yorkshire

Word of caution the short charges create cell group voltage imbalances and without a means to balance the cell group voltages risk having a battery failure. When you charge to full give the battery plenty of time to balance. Great video 👍👍👍👍🏴😎

Terence Hilbert No problem unless it’s a frequent or daily occurrence. My first battery went out of balance I was 10km from destination 30km from home. I peddled the 10km and thankful found an expat at home. Took the pack home and drained all the high voltage cell groups to equal the lowest voltage that had caused BMS, shut down. I now only ride with a smart BMS, see the cell group voltages and I connected active balancers. NB. I would charge several times a day and although now I’ve a 4.7kwh battery I just go further faster. :)

What's the best way to store the battery over winter full or at 50% ?
Terry, is battery power percentage truly linear ? Is 16% at full battery the same as 16% at near empty. I'd read it's not, but I can't verify.
Hi Gary, thanks for your comments. Battery power definitely drains faster over the last 15% check out this video where I do run out of power. Apologies in advance for the sound quality, I managed to get the camera very wet!

I managed 83.77 miles on my Giant explore 500watt, no recharge in summer. Mixture of eco, tour and off....to Goole and back from Wakefield. Saying that yesterday at 1c, only managed 44 on same settings.
The weather will effect it, you won’t get the same mileage in the cold
What battery charger do you take with you ? the original is a brick of a unit and im not keen on taking that one with me.

Yes definitely the most common problem, good idea to also carry a good multi tool for loose screw and bolts etc
I wonder how long these batteries last before they die. What is the life cycle of these batteries? Are they rechargeable maybe 1,000 times?
Over 3 years old now and done over 5500 miles and very little noticeable drop in battery performance
Thank you. It's a lifetime battery then. That's why you pay much higher to the brands like Trek, Giant actually.
What is the average speed though? Because time is also an important variable.
Yes I agree , however the speed is as much down to the fitness and ability of the rider as it is to the level of assist. Typically on minimum assist (50%) I only average around 1mph more than I would with no assist.
Nice bike, nice little video but with nearly 50 miles on the clock you still had 60% battery so the real test would have been to push the battery to its true limit rather than topping it up at the cafe.

Only if you have ridden on flat land, and on occasions use no battery. I have a 2020 model, 625wa battery, and on a hilly terrain, max 100 km, not 100 miles. Of course, always in ECO.
Yes as I said in the video did almost the whole route at 50% assist, never turned it off though
I'm in the Lake District, I doubt I would get half that range.
Yes I agree, this was done using minimum assist, it’s much more practical and fun to use the full range of assistance, this obviously drains the battery much faster.
@@terrysallbikes I tend to just use high assists for the huge hills here and nothing at all on the flat,still only gets about 30 miles ish. Can't wait for those new batteries to drop in price, they can do over 200 miles on single charge but with the bike they cost about 14 grand right now.
How many watts is your motor and what was the total weight it carried? (Bike, you, gear)? And average mph if you know it.
Hi, you’re going into detail. Here’s what I know the bike weighs approximately 21kg, bags and contents 3kg and 84kg myself, it’s a 250w motor and I think my average speed was around 11 mph, lots of bike trails and stop start riding. Hope that helps
Hi when the battery is fully charged it is 100% yes , when I charge mine and don't use it for a while my battery goes to 90%
Hi, yes it’s 100%, I charge it the night before if I want a full charge. If you’re not going to use it for a while it’s best to store it with about a 70% charge, they all lose power when not in use

I’ve charged the battery several times when stopping for food and drink, never been refused, although they sometimes seem a little surprised at the size of it!

Yes of course, I wouldn’t make a habit of it but it isn’t going to hurt now and again
