I really feel like this film gets a lot of heat because of what MGM did and it’s sad because the cast and crew really did a great job in the movie and I myself actually thought it was pretty solid remake. The fact that they got Mark Hamill to do the voice of Chucky, was an amazing choice and it had a solid concept that I feel we can relate in this day in age. But I also get a lot of the criticism from the Mancini side because it is his creation and the fact that he wants to keep it going and they want to try to erase it and try to cash in makes total sense why most people wouldn’t wanna see this movie. I think it’s safe to say that we won’t see this reboot series go anywhere.
Honestly I love that this is the closest we'll ever get to the Original Idea Don had for the series back in the 80s. The concept is loosey based off the Original Child play Script called' "Blood Buddy". Having Chucky Being Protective of Andy and killing for him. Fun fact: The longest intro is Child’s Play (2019) KILL COUNT at 8 minutes and 35 seconds, the shortest is I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) KILL COUNT at 16 seconds
I just love the way you ask how many people were killed in every single movie kill count video. My favorite one is definitely your line “ how many people became permanently unplugged thanks to some rogue ai?”
I agree with James and all the others saying this should have been a new IP. The only similarity between this movie and the original Child's Play (aside from the name and appearance) is that they both have a doll as the antagonist.
What's strange is that Megan is a good example of making a new ip, I don't know what people think about it, but it's antagonist is a ai, like this, and it's not a reboot
Honestly, this movie would have been a DOPE stand alone horror movie without a connection to chucky!! An AI doll is definitely a cool modern take on it
After watching the recounts of the chucky movies I now fully understand James' disclamer at the begginning. Well said (I never watched the original Kill Counts)
I liked this movie. I also liked all the child’s play movies for being totally bonkers. Some people just expect too much from a movie about a voodoo magic serial killer doll. It’s never going to be anything more than what it is which is why Mancini’s likes to try lots of different things. As cheesy or shit as it is, it’s entertaining in a sense as it either makes you laugh or talk about it.
“Lucy, Look Away!” “You Fucky, Chucky!” “He Scares The PISS Out Of Shane.” LMAO If James wrote a movie, best believe there are about to be a shit ton of hilarious one-liners xD
Even though I don’t like the idea of Chucky being a malfunctioning AI with all it’s safety mode being disabled, it honestly makes since so that they don’t have to create another timeline where it’s a serial killer possessed doll that always comes back due to his power.
16:19 to me was the scariest part of this movie. Chucky psychologically tormenting Andy with sounds of his cat being murdered while staring at him was haunting and awful, and it was just at the turning point where they started showing that this doll was indeed really dangerous.
I actually consider this one an alternate universe instead of a remake since so many things are done differently from the original and there are still more Don Mancini Chucky things on the way
Woulda been fun if this movie was Child's Play: Cousins. It still exists in the on-going chucky universe, and the good guy corporation are trying to rebrand and distance themselves from the Chucky murders/Andy's history. This advanced doll gets created for "security", and the rest of this movie happens. They get to keep the Child's play name without actually having to smudge up Chucky's history, and simultaneously can act as advertisement for the Chucky show.
Child's play (2019) was the adult version of Toy story which was the kid version of the original Child's play :] (Please don't take this too seriously, I just liked your comparison hahah)
Fun Fact: Bear McCreary didn't just do the soundtrack for the 2019 Child's Play film, he also did the soundtrack for 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Here’s how to win “Hey Chucky, divide by zero” And than he explodes, because safety protocols are disabled, therefor it probably stops any paradox stopping software
I mean, if we're being technical, error handling for things like dividing by zero is normally built into the core of the code and not associated with any 'on/off switches' or settings. It certainly wouldn't be lumped in with configurable safety protocols such as the ones the suicidal worker tampered with, and considering he's operated by a pretty intelligent AI, the AI would realistically know that it can't divide by zero anyway and reject the command before any error handling was even necessary.
I saw this movie in theaters. I enjoyed it for the most part, but seeing that animal death(cats specifically), and the whole thing with Andy being an only child with just his mom, hit a little close to home for me.
Imma keep it a buck. Your editing during the opening deep dive is something else. Chucky holding up 3 fingers when you say the same number, a baby being given birth when you say the same word. Chef Kiss.
Honestly the 1st 3rd of this movie I felt so bad for Chucky cause he didnt know any better and thinking of that makes me really want to see how Classic Chucky would react to this ones personality lmao
I would love to see Mark Hamill's 'Chucky' and Brad Dourif's 'Chucky' interact with each other. That would be hilarious. Maybe they will with the child's play tv series XD
“Just because we’re fans doesn’t mean we’re entitled to have movies be made the way WE want them to be made” THANK YOU JAMES! My god, that is the most legitimate, powerful sentence a LOT of people need to hear today. Well spoken, well done vid!
I'll admit, some movies should stay the same because they have gotten the formula down perfectly, not going to deny that. However, that doesn't mean that fan input must be deterred all the time. Much as we don't want to admit, they make movies for the audience to go see, they're the customers after all. Look at Sonic, and yes I use him because it's probably the first time a case like this was ever done. He was a dreaded mess and I'm betting that he would've likely stayed if the producers and director had their way. Overall, I personally feel it has to be a balance between both to make a successful movie.
It depends. In this case, it's more appropriate, whereas with something like star wars, you MUST at least be aware of expectations. Alienating your base is a foolish endeavour.
Honestly I’m so glad that the original director didn’t let the 2019 version remove everything that made Chucky iconic, and kept everything in the new show!! Even Glen(da), even if those movies (bride & seed) were… “questionable” I appreciate that they kept it in the canon universe anyways!
I love cats so if a had a buddi doll and it killed a stray cat (I own a stray cat named Tom) I would ask my mom if we could visit some place and drop it off there
In my own head cannon I put the remake as a film in the main Chucky universe based on the Andy Barclay story of a good guy doll coming to life and killing people.
The only great thing I can say about this movie is the animation scenes like when Chucky pops up from behind the boxes or when the buddi bear is climbing to Andy on top of the cart or when he peaks his head behind the shelf AND when Chucky says you are my buddi untill the.. END!! was very epic lol
I feel like the fact that it’s a “Child’s Play” remake will automatically make people hate it which sucks considering it’s pretty good. This was the first one I remember this coming out right before my 12 birthday. 3 years later and I think this movie is a perfect standalone film and it didn’t mess with the OG time line
My favorite thing about this movie is that it actually makes you feel bad for Chucky. He wasn’t evil, he was just trying to learn from his surroundings to protect his best friend. But he was raised in terrible surroundings and around terrible people, many of which would hurt Andy. He didn’t know any better and just wanted to remove inconveniences to his friend till the end. Even if he has to kill them.
"Why would the hearing aid be on the internet?" A lot of newer models are on wifi and have apps to control them. Some models let you play audio like music or tv shows directly into the hearing aid. This can make audio like watching a tv show with someone who needs louder volume due to being deaf better since they can have their own personal feed simultaneously playing louder as audio also comes out of the speakers at regular volume. It also allows you to have better control over the audio level if they're connected via Internet so now it's easier for people with a wide range of hearing to have a better experience in different situations. So Chucky using that to talk directly to Andy actually was very accurate and a cool touch to see! I've personally called folks through their phones and into their hearing aids quite a bit so it was nice to see that included in the movie.
The thing I don’t like about this one is that they take the whole serial killer possessed doll aspect out of it, which is literally the entirety of what Chucky IS. This is just a doll with an unexplainable malfunction because of a safety switch being turned off that picked up all the wrong things from AI learning intelligence. This isn’t even really chucky.
The running theme of "kids being hooked to their devices", I can't help but see this more as a fear of technology but coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't really know how technology works
@@markulyssestabasan3064 plus I think they needed another giant humanoid ally since Ultraman wasn't allowed :( Ultraman was in the original book, and I loved the show to death. Sadly they couldn't get it in and had to replace it with the Iron Giant and Gundam. I'm not mad, just a little sad. It's nice to see the Iron Giant in there though, they pulled it off really well.
This was one of very few movies that made me genuinely empathize with and even *pity* the bad guy. Chucky isn't bad, or even really good, he's neutral by default, even with his uncanny valley vibe. He mimics the things he sees, just like kids do, but he doesn't have the reasoning skills children do to think for himself (not at first, same way children develop it as they get older). This version of Chucky felt very "Frankenstein's monster" esque.
Espn Real he included Cujo because he was literally the namesake of the movie. Look up literally any of the Halloween kill counts where a dog’s death is certain, he doesn’t count them
16:08 Mickey Rooneys blood while Andy looks at mickeys dead body reminds me in Curse Of Chucky when Nica saw her mom dead these scenes are literally identical

Even Mark Hamill loved voicing Chucky, he agreed that there was no need for a remake because the original was perfect.

This intro was perfect and hit my thoughts exactly. Thank you for taking the time to address it
A character named Andy, who only has his mom around, has a sentient toy?
Is this the adult version of Toy Story?
Jason Juneau I mean toy story was the child friendly version of child’s play
Child's play (2019) was the adult version of Toy story which was the kid version of the original Child's play :]

THANK YOU JAMES!
It depends rly, sometimes fans can be entitled to give FAIR criticism
Aaron B OR, your the problem

It's not a good child's play movie but it's a good movie by itself
Honestly I’m so glad that the original director didn’t let the 2019 version remove everything that made Chucky iconic, and kept everything in the new show!! Even Glen(da), even if those movies (bride & seed) were… “questionable” I appreciate that they kept it in the canon universe anyways!

It feels like he lives under a rock with some of the commentary he puts out.
what happens if you go offline? do they have data for hearing aids?

The thing I don’t like about this one is that they take the whole serial killer possessed doll aspect out of it, which is literally the entirety of what Chucky IS. This is just a doll with an unexplainable malfunction because of a safety switch being turned off that picked up all the wrong things from AI learning intelligence. This isn’t even really chucky.

Ultraman was in the original book, and I loved the show to death. Sadly they couldn't get it in and had to replace it with the Iron Giant and Gundam. I'm not mad, just a little sad. It's nice to see the Iron Giant in there though, they pulled it off really well.

Fr I felt bad for him when he said "I don't like being left alone in the closet" 😂
I agree because the first one was mysterious but the new one was just an a.i learning from awful influences
This movie is admittedly pretty cool. It'd be one of my favorite modern slashers if it wasn't an attempt to take back the IP.
