The TV show is The Entertainers, which ran on Friday nights on CBS in the 1964-65 season. Carol Burnett, Caterina Valenti (seen here in the introduction) and John Davidson were the co-hosts. Chita Rivera's then-current Broadway show, from which the musical number was taken was BAJOUR, which opened on Broadway Nov. 23, 1964, and ran 232 performances. It was a typical Broadway semi-hit of its time, not great and not terrible, but highly professionally done in every department.

A forgotten gem! According to a "secret" Grandma told me, we had Rom (szigany?) blood in the family. (Story too long to relate here.) While I liked the romanticized portrayal of "Gypsies", it overlooks the prejudice many faced, including the fact that Hitler targeted Rom as well as anyone else he held to be inferior.

Thank you for posting this. (I only just discovered it, and it's the highlight of my day.) Many, MANY years ago I saw BAJOUR from a five-dollar seat in the highest (nose bleed) balcony of the theater. The dances blew me away, as this again did today. Although Bajour was not a "great" show, that really was Broadway's greatest era.

If there were, I'm sure youtube would have taken them down ASAP. Also, they would have shown some at the BC/EFA WSS reunion last year, but they did not. That would have been a treat.

Thanks for the information. We always think things are Sullivan or Como in that era!

Sorry about that! We THINK it was a summer special with hostess/singer Caterina Valente - who ironically... and incidently, is on our Advisory Board! Even Liza Gennaro isn't sure which show. But we know it wasn't Perry Como or Ed Sullivan. But it obviously was shot live in NYC.

what an awful song! "I'm taking pot luck at the rainbow's end!" Poor Chita. And this was the theme song, can you imagine how bad the lesser numbers must've been?!?
They repeated that potluck line 4 times as if it were some winning lyric!!

Can’t tell about the quality of the lyrics, for I am not a native speaker, but I love the Cast Recording of Bajour. it may not have been a great show, but it’s got a wonderful score.

When you try to present an incredible gifted "2nd banana" as a star.
