The fact this show can go from the too many dogs bit to Barry threatening Gene’s child and grandchild is crazy.
Yeah that got dark AF.😮😮
It's one of the hardest things to balance in a movie / show... and Barry is a masterclass in it.
13:14 Sally centering Barry's needs (setting up his dinner early, getting a new Xbox controller and texting him throughout the day) after his narcissistic outburst is so realistic.
This is one of the few shows that doesn't overdramatize the effects of childhood neglect (as we'll see later)
Funny that Arianna mentioned true crime after observing some of Barry's actions this episode. Bill Hader is a B I G fan of true crime shows. Talks about them every chance he gets lol
Maple and Arianna should watch clips of Bill Hader talking about true crime and serial killers. I can’t get enough of those haha
I love true crime as well. I wonder if there's an overlap between Barry fans
I'm gonna miss the little segments at the end of rhe episode where Bill Hader and Alec Berg would talk about some of the events in the episode + some behind the scenes stuff
But hey: Bill Hader went on the Ringer' Prestige TV Podcast for EVERY episode of Seasons 3 and 4 where he talked about the episode! Its great stuff, about 30-35min per episode. Check it out if ya haven't!
Having Barry be mid psychosis for the rest of the show was such an insane choice but I'm here for it
Maple: "Oh my god, he's, like, a serial killer."
Arianna: "Well... he is."
Exactly! The show made a 180 tonal shift by doing nothing more than taking its cynical sitcom premise serious all of a sudden. The darkness was always there, it just didn't dawn on us. Great realisation.
This show is so good with the sound editing, never had a show make me laugh so much just from audio alone before..
My favorite is when Hank goes scary mode threatening Barry outside the acting class and then you hear the music in his car when he gets back in lol.
But sometimes it is also genuinely just well edited and makes you realize how oddly quiet most films/shows are compared to reality.
Just when I thought I couldn't love your reactions to this show more, you surprise me with an Old Gregg reference!
They really meant that scene where barry is engulfed by darkness
Maple referencing The Mighty Boosh! I love that
Whats wrong with milk? Sorry not everyone is an alcholic.
17:32 i always got the sense that Barry wouldn’t have gone through with it, but he made that threat as a last resort
When I first watched this video I screamed at 0:22 and 15:26 cuz I realized both those restaurants are within 10 mins from me and how insane it would’ve been to drive by them shooting those scenes 😂
This show and Evil are SO good with tonal shifts, from really serious to really funny and back. It's crazy how well the writers are at balancing the two.
I recently shotgunned the last two seasons of this series (not the best decision for stress reasons). Afterward I talked to a friend about it and I agree with what they said: “it shifts from dark comedy to dark drama.”
Nah. Barry was always dramatic. Look at Sally’s monologues in Season 2, the tension between Barry & Sam and Sally reckoning with how she left an abusive relationship. The drama was always the motivating force in the plot.
However, the focus does definitely shift in the second half of the show.
Barry Season 1-2 is a dark Dramatic Comedy. The focus was definitely on the comedy side and the drama (extremely well executed) sort of padded out the space between jokes in a fulfilling way.
Barry Seasons 3-4 is a dark Comedic Drama. The focus is on the drama, and the comedy/jokes are now what pads the drama out.
So it sorta just reverses, which makes sense. We’re seeing this show through Barry’s perspective, and Barry is in a SUPER DARK PLACE from now on. He’s given up on trying to “change” and “be a better person” and now accepts himself deep down for what he is - a killer. Subsequently, the show knows this too. It’s not trying to convince us that Barry is salvageable anymore. Barry’s done too much harm and damage that no amount of jokes or lightheartedness could fix.
Glad you guys have reached this point in the series, it's all down hill from here, watching Barry spiral into what he becomes by the end is hard to watch, but it's some of the most incredible character arc I have ever seen.
And like that, The dark comedy becomes what all dark comedies become; just dark without the comedy.
"He's like Old Gregg" lmao
Best reaction duo on CZcams. The Goats.
Gene swearing on Janice’s soul to the man that murdered her is so morbid lol
I love that they have the real Allison Jones, who cast things like The Office, Barbie, etc
Lol arianna when sally was talking about her writing process
Thanks for the double upload
I love Barry (the show not the person😅)
Omg Maple mentioning The Mighty Boosh!! Old Gregg hahaha
I think the Cristobal joke at 12:54 is that Bolivians are short so he takes so many steps to cover a normal amount of distance
Arianna looking buff as hell 🔥
It always bugged me when Gene said "fresh out of the army" when barry had been out for years. Plus he was Marine Corps, not Army
That was the point. He only really half listens. Not really interested.
It's funny to me that you said that Cristobal's long walk goodbye was the only funny part, because when I watched it I didn't catch the humor at all (I must have missed the car radio coming on) and was just fixated on Hank's heartbreak; it was the saddest part of the episode for me.
Is ordering milk with dinner an ick? Not that i would do it... Im more of a chocolate milk type of guy
"People just don't talk like that" is such an obvious and cheap joke.
And it's still so damn funny.
Na Barry wildin I'm fuckin hooked. Why didn't I watch this show before
Old Greg! You guys ❤
6:50 Ohh... I thought it was the same chick...
Just a season ago Barry wouldn’t kill a kid now he’s fully willing to. Barry was never a good person.
Honestly, Barry was a “better” person (in that he was still a cold-blooded murderer with no real morals, but he wasn't as soulless and evil as he becomes in season 3) before he tried to live a normal life.
When Barry just starts slapping his head. Most women wouldn’t understand. Amazing scene
mr chad, please do 1917 (2019). i would like to finish my compilation and i can't do it without A&M in it. 🙏🏼
the holidays and how transitions have us strapped for time.
I'll see what i can do but scheduling extra shoot days isn't easy this season.
👏Old👏Greg. 🤣☠️
When u find out Barry really isn’t the good guy of this story
Probs should’ve known that when he murdered his innocent friend and murdered Janice lmao
As if they wouldn’t know that by now? What about this psychopathic mass murder made him seem like the good guy? The guy who murdered the love of his “savior’s” life just to cover his own sorry ass?
@@joshuadoty4682Exactly. Yeah, he obviously didn’t want to kill Janice or Chris, but he still did it. So what if he felt terrible about it? Does Barry’s remorse give Chris’s wife her husband back or his children their father back? Does Barry’s self-hatred give Cousineau back the love of his life?
Y’know what’s the worst part? Barry killed Janice when her and Gene were still in the Honeymoon stage. Maybe their relationship would’ve failed or maybe it would’ve changed Gene’s life forever for the better. But Barry stole that chance from Gene. Barry took away any chance of Gene actually knowing. Now Cousineau will NEVER know, and it probably hurts so much more to know how in love she was with him the very day that she was murdered.
Barry stole his future with the love of his life. EVEN IF IT WASN’T GOING TO WORK IT, IT WASN’T BARRY’S RIGHT TO STEAL THAT CHANCE. And for what? Just to cover for his sorry ass. Just to coverup crimes that he knew he committed.
Barry Berkman is a fucking monster. A charismatic character, sure, thanks to the effortless tour-de-force that is Bill Hader. But a fucking monster nonetheless.
@@logan-pe4rmI wouldnt call self preservation evil. Also yes the fact he didnt want to do either and feels terrible absolutely matter.
@@PeacefulJointNo, they don't. He still killed them regardless. Whether he wanted to do it or not, he still had a choide to and choice to take innocent lives instead of facing the repercussions of his own actions. Self-preservation doesn't immediately justify anything. If that were the case, selfishness wouldn't be seen as a negative trait.
I mean, come on. If a serial killer who has killed many people kills a cop because that cop is about to arrest them, does that make the serial killer NOT evil for ending the life of that cop because of self-preservation?
“And that’s how it works” Is she insinuating Barry should have been arrested for yelling at his gf? He was in the wrong obviously but he doesn’t deserve to be arrested 😂😂
Wheres 3x1
If you trying looking before typing out a message, it'll save you some time. Just less buttons to press, you know?
I also saw this pop up before episode 1 for some reason
This season jumps the shark. Barry’s jump to just going crazy because it’s good drama. This was the fall of the show.
He doesn't just go crazy because its good drama. He loses his cool because of the repercussions of his kills
@@volkoveditsyea, obviously that’s the idea they’re going for. But it’s just such an insane jump from Barry’s rational, reasoned character that i don’t personally buy it.
@@kwahzimotoI don't know, I disagree. This makes a lot of sense character wise given the amount of guilt and consequences of his actions had caught up with him by the end of season 2, so he's almost fully given up on trying to be the good person that he thinks he can be.
Barry was never a rational person, that part is just untrue lol. From being way too idealistic and naive about escaping his life of crime, and his uncontrollable murderous rage that he displayed way before season 3. This darker side has always been a part of Barry, it's just now fully embraced because of how jaded he became.
@@Nocturnewashere Maybe in a normal sense, he isn’t rational since he is a murderer lol but I mean more that he just completely throws caution to the wind. He was always somewhat careful, or at least tried to be, in the way he handled his work as a killer. But I see what you’re saying. I just think it was too big and sudden a jump to just becoming a total maniac in my opinion. I just remember watching that first episode of the season and going “oh, Wow. They’re really just going for crazy Barry”. Less nuanced in my opinion.
@kwahzimoto Barry was on an obvious downward slope since Season 1. I think killing Chris is what really started that spiral. I don't know how anyone can think it's sudden after Season 2. Even by that Season he's getting sloppy. He went to the hotel Sam was staying at to try and kill him with basically no preparation. The rampage at the end of Season 2 deliberately focuses on the younger guy he killed during his rampage, and it affecting Barry. It was too much to come back from. I don't see how anyone can think its sudden after both Seasons have clearly demonstrated him being losing it.
7:24 “he’s clearly a violent person.”
I’m sorry what? Grow up
In what way is Barry not a violent person?
@@UnleashthePhury that girl doesn’t know that. She’s assuming someone is violent because they yelled.
It was clearly very aggressive & not acceptable behavior but again, it’s a big assumption to make
@@bigpictureguys8415 wtf are you talking about? They've literally seen him kill an entire warehouse full of armed thugs to get revenge on 1 guy, how is he anything but psychotically violent?
@@andrewl9004 Not to take his side but hes not talking about the creators lol hes talking about the character. Sallys side lead hasn't seen ANYTHING about barry.
@@MrFrankEast you're right, I should've rewatched the time stamp before I commented. I still think the original comment is trolling, Barry was acting unhinged in front of Sally screaming at full volume in his partner's face, shes allowed to be concerned.
7:24 “he’s clearly a violent person.”
I’m sorry what? Grow up
Is this sarcasm? He’s a hitman
