The best Karting game on the PlayStation and one that stands up with best karting racers on other platforms. Developed by Naughty Dog and Published by Sony in 1999.
The game is quite highly detailed for a Playstation game and it does this by sacrificing some screen resolution to load in all those nice textures without excessive dithering. The 60fps ntsc region version is being played here and has a native resolution (before vertical doubling) of 512x216. The PAL version while sacrificing some speed runs at a higher resolution of 512x236 although strangely it just seems to stretch the image instead of actually utilising it for more visibility. The game does look ok in its Native Hardware aspect (after virtical doubling). You can select 4:3 in your player software if you want TV Aspect.
I play through Adventure mode as Crash. I wasn't sure how to best show the game and there was a couple of ways but I inevitable chose the more boring way. I should have just run through all the races to show the story and have that as a single part and all the rest of the fluff in subsequent parts. Instead I complete all events in each world area before moving onto the next eventually completing the story.
I am not particularly good at the game and hate time trials in any racing game especially when they are not optional and are needed for completion. I never really get the hang of the slide and turbo mechanic. Initially I just wanted to blast through events to get them done, but as I progressed and got better at the game I was getting the gold medals so the start of the game just looks bad. A couple of the tracks have a few trick shots to help cut corners or a section of the track. You wont see these in the initial races, but i do show them off later in the gem Cup. The hardest to pull off is on the sewer level and I don't show this one until the Relic clean up in part 3 (Not on Ytube)
The game is very enjoyable when playing just the race events but really does drag on when completing relic challenges and token challenges only to have to race every track again in the gem cups. The game is probably the longest Karting game I have played through.
Part 1 of this video plays through all events and end after the first encounter with oxide. Part 2 of the video completed the fourth world area and moves onto the Gem cups. After collecting all Relics I encounter Oxide for the final time to beat the game at 100%
The game can be completed up to 101% by getting all gold relics and even 102% by getting all platinum relics but that is too much for my lack of skills. I have attached a Part 3 of the video where I clean up those sapphire relics making them gold to show 101% completion. I wasn't really interested in doing well in these event at the start of the game and in hindsight I should have put more effort into those.

The remake is great, but nothing can beat the nostalgia of playing this on your TV back at the childhood.

The year 2000. I'm a 7 year old boy in Tennessee with a fear of airbags, living in a modest gray trailer, playing CTR in the living room with my mom. Controller in hand, playing as whoever I felt like playing as that day (Cortex was my most frequent choice for some reason IIRC), trying to stay in first place. I didn't need a real car, just a go kart on a TV screen with some power-ups.
The year 2020. I'm a 27 year old man in Tennessee who was scared of airbags until 16 years ago, living in a countryside house, watching CTR videos on CZcams, waxing nostalgic about the past, knowing full well the player's going to get first place. I have a 2011 Honda Accord with 6 airbags and can't wait for this COVID-19 outbreak to settle down so I can use said Accord to go get Crash Nitro Fueled.
The trailer is now an empty, sun-baked field, but I can still go to that field and remember that this was where I made lots of memories as a kid.

I doubt it, since the game it's a spin-off, and not actually a part of the original three. Just like Jak X: Combat Racing was not re-released as part of the high-definition collection for PS3, along with the first three Jak & Daxter games. However, we can still hope that CTR will be remastered someday, maybe at its twentieth anniversary in 2019.

Oh trust me u weren't. I grew up playing this game. It was one of my very first racing games ever. Heck its what made me fall in love with racing games tbh. I'll never forget playing the demo on my mom's ps1 (back in the day when demos were a huge thing) and then getting the full game long after that. My mom, brother and I played that game nonstop every week lol.

Alright i dare to say : Crash Team Racing is THE BEST Mario Kart EVER ! Nostalgia aside, you gotta admit the emphasis of shortcuts / weapons / verticality and the precise driving mechanics like the turbo boost and jump boost, the time attack mode with the boxes to crash (no pun intended) to gain precious seconds that forces you to MASTER each tracks and discover new shorcuts, forcing you to meticulously prepare your trajectory for each lap in order to collect them all, the collect-a-thon, the awesome Adventure mode straight out diddy kong racing, the music, the characters, the bosses, the tracks the multiplayer mode and battle mode where they give you nicknames depending on your playstyle, AGAIN the time attack mode with N-Tropy ghost to beat and then Nitros Oxyde after ! It was the complete package man. not a GOTY just GOAT !

I'll never forget as a 7 year old on new years eve sitting on the sofa downstairs playing this masterpiece just as it was about to turn from 1999 to 2000. We then tuned in to watch the millennium fireworks display after. It's still works too. The memories..the nostalgia!! 😊😊😊

Now that Crash had a remaster for his first three games, they could do a remaster for CTR. It was one of the best games in the franchise and one of the best racing games in the early 2000s.

Super , my fav karting racing game of all times, even better than Mario Kart and Sonic in my humble opinion!
CTR thankfully doesn't have the case of relying on luck, hoping that the game doesn't hate your guts and making all the CPUs cheat, rubberband and throw like 10 bloody items at you in a row. If I remember correctly in CTR the CPUs never get powerful items like the clock or the warp orb so you don't have to worry about that kinda crap happening. Also even in 1st there's a high chance of getting a shield so you don't always have to rely on annoying timing to drop/throw your item behind you to stop a damn missile.

This is the absolute best kart racing game ever... I have a Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.. *breathes in and out* oh boy.. I can't get over the fact, how frustrating Mario Kart is compared to this masterpiece.. in CTR you can actually win, with skill and tactics.. sliding and getting the turbo boost, taking shortcuts..using your items wisely (you can only carry one item at a time)and winning by sheer luck is not as big of a component in this game.. in Mario Kart you just get spammed with blue and red shells and all that other stuff... you are first place and end up being last, because you just get fucked up by all the shells, banana peels and all the shrinking thunder... in CTR there seems to be a much better balance with the items and what you can do with them...
I also can't think of ANY stage that I personally don't like in CTR.. but in Mario Kart, nearly every stage is designed to frustrate you.. all the rainbow roads.. fuck those... and I highly appreciate the fact, that in CTR there are not so many stages, and moments where you can fall off the stage and lose time.. in Mario Kart you just fall off all the time because there is no safety net and there are a ton of banana peels and shells everywhere..
I lost interest in playing Mario Kart very quickly (it is my first Mario Kart by the way)just because the game feels very unfair and unbalanced... I would LOVE a remake of CTR alongside Crash Bash... sooo much fun.. so many memories...
Sounds like you were just bad at Mario Kart tbh. If it's as dependent on luck as you say then no one would ever be able to get 100% on the game, but it's easily possible!
@@robonaught But again, if that was the case nobody would ever win. I have won every level tons of times (it's easy to do!) even with being pummeled with shells and bullets and whatever else. If you are good enough to get far enough ahead, then those things don't matter if they're thrown at you.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe wasn’t too frustrating for me and I actually beat the game with all gold trophies, also they are going to make a CTR remake in 2019.

Look. All characters and tracks without needing to buy DLC. These were good gaming times where people just enjoyed gaming and never complained about graphics and frame rates. The thing is, people nowadays hate these because you have to actually put some effort into playing it and practice the locations to get good which is why a ton of people hated the Crash Trilogy and ended up blaming it on the controls like they usually do instead of actually practicing. :^)
CTR along with the other games in the Crash series, Tomb Raider, Spyro and Sonic were my childhood, I never even had internet back then which is why I think people don't appreciate what we have now and nothing beat finally finishing school and getting home to play those either.
Back when you bought a game, everything was included in it with the exceptions of expansion packs. Microtransactions were not even heard of back then.

wizzgamer When a console it's new they don't use all their potentially , if CTR would come in 1994 they will be more worst than the actual one or if Mario Kart 64 would come in 1999 they will be better than the actual Mario Kart 64.
Naugthy Dog developed Crash with a completely different programming language (LISP), which was actually much better performing and easier to debug than others languages. So, they made bug free(havent seen one so far on crash series), better looking, more fluid and no framerate-drop games for PSX!!

Because part of the N64's CPU is used for sound due to the fact the N64 doesn't have a sound CPU at all. Games that optimize the CPU well can make the N64's games look better than the PS1 (Conker's Bad Fur Day being the biggest example: It just about reaches Dreamcast level graphics.)
I love the Oxide Station entrance area in the hub world so much better in the original. The way you’re actually in his space station rather than just on a balcony viewing his station from the outside like the remake

Have you even played it? Lol. The rubberbanding was so bad on the SNES/N64 that to get past 150CC - and Special Cup even with pure luck the CPU will win 9 times out of 10.

+Kat Clairmont Although the majority of the Mario Kart games are better than the Crash Racing games, I'll have to agree with you that this game is way better than Mario Kart 64 because as you said the rubberbanding AI is fucking horrible in that game and sometimes when the lead racers are ahead of the track they just disappear from the track nowhere to be found. I just feel that game wasn't polished compared to this game.

I always went Polar bear purely because even tho he was slower, his smoothness on the sharp turns actually had him flying ahead of everyone else. Whenever i played the faster ones, the dragging round corners was headachey hehehe. :)
They are beginner because of how easy they are to handle. Try playing as Tiny or Dingo. It's hard for the inexperienced ..
Of course you'll have an easy time with the game. That's why they're beginner status 😄

I used to print out CTR pictures from the internet before I owned the game and remembered it took like 2 minutes to print each image on one of those old printers where you had to wait for the ink to dry

I only played the demo of this that was a cheat in the menu of one of the PSX on the first Spyro game ever. If you did the correct code: L1 and triangle on both controllers at the same time while at the load game/new game part of the menu on the first Spyro the Dragon PSX/PS1 game, the demo for this Crash Racing game will start!
BTW, this game was just a clone of Mario Kart.

I never liked racing games as a kid and still don't now. But I loved playing this. Having never owned a Nintendo console as a child I never played mario kart. So this was my first cartoony racing game and I gotta say I'm glad.
