This was super helpful! I can't believe my local mechanic was trying to charge around $200 just to do this! I'd love a video of you showing how to get to the bulbs inside the tail light.
Thanks so much for this! I need to replace the assembly on my driver's side and VW wanted to charge me $180 to put it in. I think I can do it myself after seeing this.
Thanks, that really helped! I need to adjust the rear bumper on my GSR as it seems to be hanging slightly on the left side and you need to take out the rear lights for that job. The only remaining issue is the fat Fender subwoofer on the right side of the trunk, I hope that's just a big plastic cover which can be removed
Thank you for this video. I tried this and found VW engineers use a plastic white screw that is fitted too tight. If I use force on this it might break. If it needs to be that tight and needed a spring too, it is obvious you need a metal screw. They just want to save cost or weight, what about the cost to consumers? 😢
Ok so if you are replacing the whole tail assembly, i would verify that it is the correct one for your vehicle, because I've had that happen before a few times. Make sure you're plugging the cables into the correct sockets on the taillight, And make sure there in the right orientation, they only go in one way i believe.

Your welcome, I also have a video of how to remove the taillight bulbs also.
Super helpful..noticed my wife's light was loose. Turns out the retaining screw stripped out the slot in the housing. Rip
Thanks for the info. A tip if you don't mind:. Your camera was wiggling around a lot.
