I'm sorry, but...THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED. They DID get together, there was strife between them, they struggled to be heard, and Freddie die. Sorry if the actual story bothers you. It's his story, not a formula.
Musical biopics have a formula because: 1) They are biographical 2) They are about musicians and their music 3) They are cinematic 4) They are about some kind of struggle(s) What do you want from a musical biopic? Fighting aliens on the moon?
Lady everything in life follows a formula.. not just movies. Sacred geometry is all around us and there's always a systematic pattern in the way things are done here. Yes there are innovators, pioneers, and geniuses who try to step outside of "the box" but even they soon realize you can't escape the underlying math of life. People are born, they learn things, they do things, and they die. That's just universal truth
@@yeezzy_1345 Why would you change it? Freddie lived like a fucking god. He fucked everything that moved, drank all day, did all the drugs and had a job he actually enjoyed doing. Goddamn, I enjoyed my 20s as a bartender surrounded by drunk, horny girls, but this guy? This guy takes the gold medal for living you best life.
Freddie was ethnically Persian from India where they are called Parsis and was born in the British colonial ruled archipelago of Zanzibar in East Africa. Complicated and epic as his life itself.
That's the thing about introducing a biopic. In general, these people only know what the celebrities portrayed were selling. Be it acting, music, etc. But they're clueless about the rest. So yeah, you can see where bandwagon mentality gets people. They don't just ride the tide, they try to stir it up. She clearly wanted to be the top opinion there.
Also, it's really annoying that the one buzz kill up there threw out a bogus opinion and then out of awkwardness and not wanting to be combative the rest of the panel tip toed around her the rest of the time, quasi agreeing with her uninformed opinion despite the fact that they didn't agree at all. The second person from the left was positively thrilled about the trailer during the viewing but had to tone down her excitement completely because of debbie downer in the corner over there. What a wet blanket of a human.
The sassy one complaining should go watch a documentary and some interviews about queen. I think that would clear up a lot of her concerns. It's a trailer...they have to promote to the masses. So naturally its gonna follow a formula. Every trailer follows the same formula. They have to present a 2 hour story arc in 2 minutes. But if you actually know the history of the band a lot of the clips in the trailer make sense. And since the events in this are all completely out of order it helps to be able to place them properly in the actual bands timeline. I think queen had anything but a generic rock band story. For starters they're all college educated, they all wrote and contributed, they bickered but never broke up despite making solo projects and taking breaks. And they're to this day the best band in history to be able to play huge venues and hold an audience in the palm of their hand. Freddie is an icon and one of a kind. And his life story, with the band and outside of it, is anything but formulaic.
Also, can't believe people got upset there wasn't enough gay stuff in the teaser. If people actually knew about the man they wouldn't be upset that Mary plays a huge role. He was in a relationship with her for years during the beginnings of queen. He considered her is only true friend he ever had, and bequeathed his entire estate to her in his will. When she tried to tell him not to he told her that in another life they would have been married and had a family and it would have all been hers anyway. So long story short, she's a big fucking deal to Freddie. And anyone who assumed they wouldn't address his homosexual relationships later in life is a fool. I venture to say that he is one of the most famous bisexual men ever. And there's no way to tell his life story without that playing a part. Also, he was hardly in the closet. He was very shy and private, hated doing interviews with people he didn't know and rarely did them at all, but to anyone who isn't a complete jackass he clearly wasn't hiding his sexuality post 1980.
To answer the formula question. Because back in the day bands usually had to graft and work hard to get their break, then they make it (if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be getting a biopic), drugs are very common in the industry and if there wasn’t some trauma or difficulty their lives wouldn’t be interesting enough for a biopic, and then people tend to die eventually. If you don’t have all that then you don’t have a a structure or a biopic An absolute airhead observation, I’m not surprised a couple of your fellow reactors dug you up for it too. Films have to have a formula. Maybe read more into Tzvetan Todorov and equilibrium/disequilibrium theory. There has to be a starting point, an ascendency to success, an unexpected tragedy and then a resolution that restores peace. Aside from film theory, all great rock bands have the turbulent story. That’s what makes them memorable and worthy of exploring through film. Their primary purpose is to entertain, something impossible without dramatic fluctuation. These films are also a history lesson, so the famous “making it” and “braking it” narrative has to be included because that is exactly what happened to these people. There’s no secret mind-blowing plot twist. A typical audience member would not go to see this film to learn something wildly new, they would go to learn about what they already know from a deeper, personal perspective. This type of film does not require someone to critique how interesting the story is; it requires someone to critique how the story is told.
I understand where she's coming from, but what band - has not fought/ended? The Beatles (Literally all of the members had disagreements with each other), Nirvana broke up cause Kurt died, Led Zepp stopped cause John Bonham died and they knew they couldn't find another drummer like him. Do you really expect this film to not have any form of controversy, disagreements and conflict with one other lmao? Like in LIFE - we are our own main characters, and our daily conflict is what molds us to how we are and who we are. It doesn't make a difference with Queen either. This movie should have those conflicts mentioned/showed (The runaways (film bioptic) they showed they had fights because of the controversy of Cherie and Jackie jeopardizing the band for personal gain fame, unlike Joan jett who wanted it for the music) - plus Brian May and Roger Taylor where there when they worked on it and I don't think they would allow the writers to mess up factual things like they fought.
