One of the most stunning voices I ever heard. She's is stunning also.
There was a lot of hype about this video when it came out. One of the first ones to do a big close up face camera that REALLY portrayed emotion over a long period of time. A few other artists have been inspired by it after this video. Still one of the best videos ever.
Sinead O’Connor, became my hero when she did her song war on Saturday Night live
And then said fight the real enemy and tore up a picture of the pope. She was talking about the Catholic Church covering up child sex abuse. A lot of people hated her for doing that, she was speaking out for what she believed in and it’s the truth. Some people just don’t want to leave the truth about the Vatican
The way she sings this song and the depth of feelings she puts out is incomparable to any I've ever heard. I truly love this song, I'm gonna be 50 soon and this song makes me cry every time. She never got enough recognition for it.
Sinead has said that the tears she shed here were about her mother, who had died in a car accident 5 years previous to this recording.

Sinead is best known for this song but actually has a whole plethora of great songs in her back catalogue. She is an incredible artist. I personally like 'Fire on Babylon, Scorn not his simplicity, Take me to church, Thief of your heart and her beautuful rendition of Belfast Child. Her voice is everything.
Not many women can pull off baldness, and her eyes are strikingly beautiful.

Stephen Hucks Actually he didn’t write it for her. He wrote it six years earlier, but hers is the best known cover.
He did not write it for her, in fact she recorded it her without his permission. They did not get along at all.

Sinead is back touring again around Ireland. Which is great to see. This was after all her problems. Amazing to see her back gigging again.
I loved Sinead O'Conner, her voice is so amazing. I am just so sorry that she burned her bridges in the music industry because of her politics, even though her causes were righteous. I will never forget the performance with multiple artists and the crowd actually boo'd her, so uncalled for. Her version of this song is so iconic and it is so hard to say which is better, Sinead or Chris. I do not think you can choose.

Wind that Shakes the Barley was the inspiration for her shaving her head the woman in the movie had her hair cut by feckin english soldier's bayonet on a rock held her down to cut her hair her name was also Sinead I'm Irish as well it's sort of a tribute to her hope the history helped thanks
Not true she shaved her head because her mother cut all of her older sisters red head off and the mother would introduce sinead as the pretty daughter and she felt badly about her sister so she shaved her head so she wouldn’t be the pretty sister.

This was a prince song ..he wrote it as a duet..sinead asked if she could release it he said no it's a duet..she laid it down on track and sent it to him..he returned it with the copywrite and said it's now your song ..he was blown away it could be sung as a solo

The Family recorded a version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" based on Prince's demo recording (a demo that is Incredible!) in 1985. Prince was writing so many songs that Warner Bros felt they could not release that much "Prince material", so Prince 'gave' many songs to other groups/'projects' like: The Time, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, The Family, and others.

It seems all everyone can agree on is that Prince wrote the song.
He did not write it for Sinead O'Connor. He didn't even know who she was when he recorded a demo in 1982. He wasn't satisfied with how it came out. A few years later he was producing an album by a group called The Family. He gave them the song and they were the first to release it on their album in 1985.

Sinead's version came out 5 years later. There are plenty of stories out there that Prince wasn't happy about her version and was upset that she recorded it. Sinead herself has said in interviews that Prince wanted to "beat her up."
If you want to hear something different from Sinead. Check out her song "I Want Your (Hands on Me)" from 1988. It is more of a dance track and was on her first album before "Nothing Compares 2 U."
She not to long ago sang this song on TV she looked great and sang it amazing well. I was so happy for her and all of us
Another great and intense Sinead O'Connor performance is Troy (live at Pinkpop Festival 1988). Such a strong voice, so many emotions. I always have goosebumps, when I watch it. For me it is one of the best vocal performances ever. I'd love to see you reaction to it.
Prince's own version of his song was released much later but is also great.
Maybe it's odd for a grown man in his 40s to say, but I actually prefer this version over Chris Cornell's, the karaoke drum beat notwithstanding. Not that he didn't do a marvelous job with it, this one just hits me more. Sinead sings it in a way that makes me feel like *I'm* the one who hurt her and that's more heartbreaking to me than being the one who got hurt.

I got to see her once when her first album was released. She was extremely Irish and I could, unfortunately not understand what she was saying between songs. The hard rock Sinead was very impressive and she took off pretty fast after that.

She changed the script on-the-spot & sang Bob Marley's legendary song WAR! She then proceeded to 'call-out' the Filthy Catholic Church & other corporate Wanker's out there who take advantage of the innocent for their own gain!So, she's been Ridiculed, Bullied, Shamed, you name it & she's had it biffed at her. Just so you know it is pronounced Sha-nade because it comes from the Irish language Gaelic.
It is the same reason the real spelling of my name is Sean. I hate when people spell it Shawn or Shaun (ugh that spelling makes me ill when I look at it).
In the past I could be understand not knowing that a name is spelled differently than how it sounds phonetically in English. In the information/internet age, though, you can find out the origin and spelling of a name in literally 2 minutes.

I am talking about when people decide to give their unborn child a name I think they could spend fewer than ten minutes finding some information about the name.
