#Witcher #Witchershow #Bruxa - Zábava
I'll see you guys & gals next week for a somewhat festive video
Can’t wait!
I hope it's about KRAMPUS😀
Could you do a video on the mythology influences on Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn's vampires?
I hope you've found something more optimistic and joyous as I really need that right now.
Gaunter o’ Dimm
In Portuguese "Bruxa" is the literal translation of the English "witch".
Great video, as usual.
That X on his "Bruxa" pronunciation was pretty good for a gringo.
I thought it sound too close to Bruja
Strigas also feed on the life forces of children, just like in Hocus Pocus. In s1 we get a mentioning of a selkie. While those r dangerous in Witcherverse, but in rl Scottish legends they’re seals 🦭 that could shed their skin, to come ashore, find human lovers and start a family.
... Just *'Like'* in Hocus Pocus. . . 😶. 👌👍....
You mean just like in Supernatural
@@Werewolf914 That too.
The Bruxa bout to make me act up 😩
This notification literally came while I was playing tw3 and listening to the last wish at the same time.
I always felt that the Bruxa had too many abilities. I was surprised to find out that they were not considered higher vampires. I like how fast they are portrayed in the game.
In the myths they are invulnerable, can shapeshift and can use magic so the myth version actually has more powers.
I recommend to read Alexander Afanasyev. He was that for russia, what the brothers Grimm was, for ushere in germany. A Folklore and Fairy Tale collector.
I really love that kind of slavic myths.
Thx for the video!
I saw 2. series of The witcher. When they mention a witch in the hut on the basilisks legs, first thing I was thinking of was Baba Yaga. And I was right. They portrayed her little bit different than classical Baba Yaga, they even didn't call her Baba Yaga.
Baba Yaga is really popular figure in my country. In a slavic version of Hansel and Gretel the evil witch which tries to eat both childern is Baba Yaga. I heard that fairlytale many times as a child.
I'm very glad you've done a video of the creatures from The Witcher and Slavic folklore I'm so happy to learn more from your channel and John Solo! Keep up the good work ❤
Haven't watched or played The Witcher but I love the myths.
I think you’ll be interested in perhaps doing a video on the Vouivre from medieval France. This fascinating creature is a female dragon-like monster that was said to roam the wild parts of France. There is a sad lack of information in America about these creatures. Perhaps you could do a video about them, yes?
In my region it is more of a snake than a dragon (although in some place she flies).
The main caracteristics are always the same : huge size, venimous set of teeth, Queen of snakes (in several legends a brave hunter manages to wound / kill her but is then chased and eaten by the snakes of the forest), and she posses only a single eye, set on her forehead. Said eye is a huge diamond that she needs to put down to go bathing. This is her at her most vulnerable, because if one steals her eye she will then be blind to fight you
Still, a video about lesser known monsters would be a good thing as it seems to be a staple in this channel
Slavic folklore + Witcher 🌏💚💙
The myths behind the creatures in this video is quite facinating
Nice video. It reminds me of old tales my grandma read me when i was a little girl. I didn't watch witcher season 1 but I'll give it a try. I have seen witcher from 2002.
Witcher lore is so fantastic, up there with the greats like Elder Scrolls and Fullmetal Alchemist
Neat one
I'm pretty stoked for Season 2 of the Witcher! The first was great but I'll have to rewatch it as it was so long ago. Thanks for a rundown of the monsters upcoming.
The Leshy looks like they combined Sirenhead and a Xenomorph, polish folklore is scary 💀
Mythic leszy is shapeshifter so he appears either as animals or human animal hybrid or elderly man covered in moss and such things. The further he is from the forest the smaller he gets. He can help people lost in the forest, or make you lost, same goes for hunters, he may aid them and help them find prey or make them become prey instead. Overall a really fun spirit.
The crones also has influences from the witch from hansel and gretel, they also took care of the kids to eat but they didn't do it by themselfs and we also found a kid who was abandoned by her parents in the woods and told to follow the candies and those candies would lead them to the crones
The crones and their cronies.
❤ all your video's mate.
good morning from japan ^^
another great vid. thank you.
So far I am happy enough with the show. I hope they continue.
Great video.
Yes my favourite creature the leashen I really like the neutral forest spirit thing.
The indigenous people of Australia ~ the Aborigines would love the leashen/leashy. Ideology compatible with the dreamtime stories. 👥👣🌿🫒🇦🇺
It’s always interesting to see what inspirations different stories have taken from folklore. I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a video about the folklore inspirations behind Disney’s #TheOwlHouse . The creator, Dana Terrace, was hugely influenced by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosh, and several other things pop up as well. These include a house that at one point walks on bird legs, and even a character named Kikimora. This is a video I would truly love to see if you are so inclined.
I love that show! Its a comfort for me, along with Amphibia!
Auuggg.... Good pd ol slav creatures 👌👌. I'm here for it.
This Creatures are so interesting!
10:45 I'd rather encounter none of them if you don't mind
Outstanding video thanks 😊👍
Good Explaining 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I can’t wait for season 2! I’m watching The Wheel Of Time to satisfy me for now 😍
You should do the lore from the Nioh games
Another thing about the crones is that they're basically the owners of the swamps of velen.
In Philippines: Bruha/Mangkukulam in English a Witch
Really good video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 keep it up
I hope we get a lot more Creatures in S2 it's one of my favorite parts of The Witcher books, games, and show, also one of the biggest reasons Supernatural is my favorite show and I'm obsessed with it is because how many Gods and Monsters from all over the world there are in it, though I wish they would've used even more a ton of episodes are Ghosts, Werewolves, and Vampires (of course 3 of my favorite episodes, Heart, Bitten, and Red Meat are Werewolves) with 15 seasons they could've had even more, also sucks the budget wasn't higher because 95% of the Monsters in it are normal looking humans with maybe a few differences.
Ohhh we sure do
Yeah all the monsters and Witcher were based on Slavic Folklore Yeah but there are some monsters who are based on what other mythology and folklore
5:40
It was confirmed to be a demon, not a crone.
I just noticed that most of the monsters have a female aspect. Interesting. 🤔 Thanks for making the video before the season starts tomorrow.
It's the fear of adultery combined with general distrust of solitary females that creates these types of figures.
Most of this lore was invented by men.
Probably that's also the reason why - during the witch hunts - there were claims that alleged witches were dancing naked around a fire while having s*x with demons.
Suppressed perverse erotic fantasies from chronically underf*cked men.
The infamous "malleus malleficarum" was written down by that creepy catholic incel clergyman Heinrich Kramer ... and it was already condemned by theologists of the Inquisition for unethical and illegal procedures, even then in 1486 .
Both of you have very good points. Thanks for your thoughts!
@@Gaia_Seraphina LMAO "chronically under fucked men" and "Catholic incel" had me wheezing. 😆 And you are right. A lot of these monsters with a female slant to them were inventions of men back in the day placing uncanny, super natural characteristics out of distaste and contempt for women. I love cryptids and folklore creatures but the under lying misogyny of these monsters is an uncomfortable reminder of the unchecked power men back then to control the narrative of society and cultural lore. That seems more horrifying then even these monsters are.
Kikimora is the namesake of a certain spider species
First💯💯 . Interesting to learn about this👍👍
Very good video, though my only correction is to the pronunciation of the Spanish word "bruja", that should be pronounced like bru-ha
He pronounced it correctly for the portuguese name tough. And it's written correctly aswell
As far as I'm aware the crones are a game creation, or at least not presentin the books so I don't think we'll be seeing them in the show.
There's an eery feel to the audio glitch at 9:52 💀
If we do see the crones, I would imagine that their depiction would have to be very different from the game, as the series has the license for the book, not the games, if I recall correctly
I could be wrong, but wasn’t the hut/demon inside almost word for word “Baba Yaga” look it up in Slavic Lore. “Lives in a hut in chicken legs”
@@hudsonfrank1733 That's what I assumed at first. It's clearly going to be something inspired by those myths even if it's not the actual baba
I'm hoping that the newly appointed Admiral Green Bull has a Leshy mythical Zoan devil fruit
Personally I thought the Kikimora looked like a Griever.
Wait you mean to say that bruxae are based of brujas, btw its pronaunced brooha not broosha
Portuguese pronounciation and spelling is what he is showing in the video. So it's not a mistake on his part
We already saw Gerald searching for a Dovah, but we all know the day he'll really be afraid is the day he'll have to face Dovahkiin !
Personally I must have missed most of this in Season 1 of the Witcher. Now I really do have something to watch for during Season 2. Wow was I that dense about the characters!!! For Season 1 I went into it thinking that The Witcher was themselves a dynamically neutral being similar to a Gandalf. The gentleman seemed to have his own agenda which even seem to defy his own clans objectives.
The book really helped me understand the depth of characters and how the plots intertwine
Keep up the good work sir 👍 🙏
I enjoy western fantasy and lore but seeing the same things recycled over and over is tiresome. Getting some Slavic folklore is very refreshing
The show doesn't really tap into the Slavic elements well so hopefully the second season will utilize the lore better.
Bruxa is actually the Portuguese word for "witch" '-'
I learnt that when first playing batman Arkham asylum?
I thought the 3 crones were in the first season… now I have to re-watch it all again
🥰 Love this channel! M&FE 💯
Cool I was hoping for more scare monsters from Witcher Season 2 👾👹
The bruxa (which means witch) of the Witcher is not a dead witch but most probably what we call a Lurpia/Lamia/Lumia and its several derivates as Moura Lavandeira (washing fairy), in galician-portuguese versions, i do not know how are called in Spanish or if they have them.
U beige watched it??
Broooooooo ♥️
alot of these Buxa are seen on the boarder between Mexico and the US
The Crones - Sudjaje?
Although it is all obviously just superstition, I love mythology and folk lore. It's just so fascinating to me. Not only the stories, but that people used to actually believe in these entities.
Many of these, were made after actual creatures of folklore.
Unfortunately, even in our modern age, there are some individuals, that still believe they do.
But I guess those kinds will always exist.
Modern people who believe in f.e. angels are no better than their ancestors concerning superstition.
@@Gaia_Seraphina
Superstition is superstition, regardless of how people delude themselves into it.

⬆️ Hey, check it out, a ⬆️ spooky Internet ghost!
I wish they could replace the actress playing Yenn...
Why?
Please no, she is beautiful
@@melekbasri1575 But she is not like in books. Showrunner really hated the books. Books are better
@@karolinakuc4783 So? She is still gorgeous XD
Gemini - its symbol is said to depict the twins Castor and Pollox can you do a video about this
I like how he says that the three crones would probably not be the main villain…oh how wrong he was
Hey do you have any videos on the Tuatha De Danann in Irish Mythology and Folklore? I'd like to learn more about them?
The sad thing about Irish folklore is that a lot of it has been filtered through a Christian lens.
Please consider doing a feature on Trinidad & Tobago Folklore. Creatures such as the Douens, Soucounyant, Phantom, La Diablesse, Loup Garou, Jumbie, Papa Bois, Mama d'Glo, Churile etc... amazing mythical creatures 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
Somehow S2 coming out totally snuck up on me. I´ll get on that real quick when I find some time.
Glad something good came outta season 2
Great video. Comment for the algorithm.
Arachnoforms
I thought the Bruxa storyline is actually really sad, she couldn’t fight her nature (plus the weird beauty and the beast undertones were odd).
I misclicked curse my fat thumbs. I wanted to tap the like button. Also iirc baba yaga is a grey area being in the fact she's neither good nor evil she can be extremely vindictive but she can also be benevolent.
im rewatching season 1 lol
9:52
Bro make a video on goddess danu in Irish mythology
No mention thus far about the Sylvan
Huh, you’ve done a few videos on Baba Yaga but you didn’t clock her hut
Or as some witches would prefer: The Maiden, The Mother and... The other one.
🤣🤣
The mother the maiden the crone? Are they not facets of the same being?
@@christophergoldshot9028 I think he's implying it's a little rude to call someone a crone 😅🤣
@@moondust1992 ah I was curious about that... Tho would it not be mildly irreverent to not refer these powers as they are? Feel free to let me know if I come across as insensitive as that's not my intent, if anything I like talking about folklore.
To look around for the creatures, games are a better place to start apart from the books. If the show is as true to the few monsters that were in the books as it is to anything else...oh wait, it's not, after all it has evil doppler in it. Yup. I can't stand that show. Misscasting turned out to be the lesser of the problems it has.
Great video anyway ^^ Slavic demons and spirits are pretty interesting.
My fav slavic spirits are probably rusałki and leszy as well as Hellboy comic depiction of the Domovoi(Hellboy smokes cigares with the fella and has a nice conversation).
Gaunter O’ Dimm
The vampire could be based off the Strzga, a Polish who in their humanoid form look similar to a banshee and can transform into flying animals (Typically owls)
For the Algorithm
What about the myriapod literally cannot find anything explaining why it didn't want to kill ciri instead seeming to want communicate with her
please do serbian/ Balkan old mythology and creatures
is there a god or creature that name is ritna or rinta dont remember it was from my dream i remember from

The show is way inferior to the games and books. Honestly I won't watch season 2 because of how much they messed up season 1.
Season 1 mainly consists of the short stories anthologies.
The main plot starts now.
I was wondering if I should read the books because I’m having a hard time following the show. I keep feeling like I’m missing a lot of information. An episode by episode synopsis/explanation would be good to have!
@@amymeyers9682
The show's season 2 differs somewhat from the novel "blood of elves" though. I don't fully remember the details, cuz I've read the novels approx. two decades ago in polish.
Season 1 was confusing due to the time jumps ( cuz it was based on the two volumes of short stories ).
But you can read just those two short volumes for a better understanding.
The Last Wish
Sword of Destiny
Sorry not sorry but I only like the Witcher video games. Couldn't get into the books or Netflix show.
Do not watch show. Play games or read the books.
You give the writers too much credit. Season 2 was horrible
Striga sounds just like your average girlfriend
