- These daily vlog posts are trial and error attempts to learn how to video b-roll better and tell a story both visually as well as verbally. I am using only the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the PYGTech Mantispod Z at the moment. No extra lighting. No tripods. No microphones. Eventually, I will add some other equipment. Right now, however, the focus is on getting the video and learning how to entertwine it together in editing to create a more compelling story.

That is an amazing audio difference and from such a small device! Smaller and lighter is always a good thing when you’re traveling. It looked like a really nice coffee shop and I didn’t mind the quieter background ambience chatter. 🤷🏻♀️

I have my wireless microphones and have come to conclude that for my workflow, it is easier to do like you mentioned and just replace the audio.
I love Culture coffee too. I found it on a photowalk once and love the back “mezzanine” area too.

Hi, Tim! Cute coffee place. I've noticed that when you use the DJI mic, sometimes, the sound is not quite synchronized with your lip movements. It doesn't seem to be off by much, but is noticeable at times. No, I didn't notice that today, but in other videos, I have. I thought it was just me, but now that I fully understand it is separate, I can see how it could happen. It does a great job of reducing the background noise, without obliterating it. I like that. Thanks for the video. I appreciate all that I'm learning watching your videos. Have a lovely day, Tim!

Yesterday I downloaded Apple’s Final Cut Camera to my iPhone. It offers much more video control, than the native camera app. I think I can use my DJI Mic 2 via Bluetooth in Final Cut Camera, but I will know for sure later today.
I couldn’t get mine to connect 😡

The lighting looks funky in there....maybe it was overcast outside.
The only challenge with that approach is matching up all of the clips. I would recommend taking the receiver along with you. The Shure MoveMic pairs direct to phone without a receiver if you record using the Shure app. I recently invested in the RODE Phone Cage which has a neat magnetic grip for the phone and plenty of cold shoes to attach mics etc.,

I enjoyed the comparisons. And that’s a great idea to just record internally through the DJI mic. I keep expecting my pocket 2 to wear out but it just keeps going. One day, when it does, I will get a pocket three or maybe pocket four lol and some of those mics.

You can improve the audio straight out of the iPhone dramatically if you change the audio quality setting in the app voice memo to lossless. I don’t know if it takes that higher quality into account when you do video, but for just capturing audio if like night and day different. I use that app when my in laws start reminiscing about early memories and I want to capture them. They don’t like being videotaped but I can discreetly capture these stories for their kids grandkids. You probably could use that where you need to be discreet or you are out without the dj2.

I love these comparison videos. I don't always pick up the differences but I could definitely hear it today. My worry on a trip would be that the Mic will die while I am filming. Is the audio from the camera/phone always there if you have a Mic failure?
Yes. It is always there. But the mic has 14 hours of recording time. :)
