I am 61 and plan to do the PCT all by myself as there won't be anyone who will hike as slow as me!
I will enjoy the quiet and solitude and enjoy other hikers occasionally and that will be good enough. Good for you, btw!

@@paulsanders1 that's amazing! You'll definitely meet others going the same pace as you! The solitude and social aspect is a beautiful balance on the PCT!

I did my first PCT thru in 21 at 54 . You might be surprised at just who goes ahead of you and who you leave in the rear view mirror. but above all...DO IT.

Oh my goodness, this gives me hope! My husband and I are late 50's and planning it next year hopefully! Good luck! ❤

I am in the same boat, being 64. Needed 4 months to the midway point and left the trail there (Chester) two weeks ago because it would not have been fun navigating around the wildfires, and Canada was too far anyway (6 months visa). May continue next year. - And no, I did not meet anyone else going so slow who did not skip ahead or quit earlier. Sometimes I met people for a week or two. In the last week we were a group of 3 and then 4, for safety reasons around the Park Fire, but I slowed down this group at no more than 18-20 miles a day.

Really appreciated hearing about your toughest moments on the PCT and how you got through them. It’s a good reminder that even when things get tough, we can push through with some determination. Thanks for sharing your experience - it’s motivating to see how you handled those challenges

I never comment on videos, but I felt I must now. This is a great video!!! Thanks for making and sharing it. A lot of viewers are going to benefit from this. A great PCT video that will help anyone who watches it, whether they hike the PCT, some other trail or no trail at all. Thanks again for making this!!!

Thanks for this! I thru hiked in 21 and 22 and had so many of these moments. Honestly, I beat the mental shit out myself every time. Always good to know that just about every thru hiker does this.

It's the collective suffering! It always helped me push through to remember there were other hikers on trail experiencing the same thing.

I know the feeling of not being able to watch fast or do the 30s everyday! :( I have shorter legs, so I can't keep up! :( I totally get you! When I hiked it the 2nd time, there were people averaging 40s. CRAZY!!!!

Class of 2021 here. This wasn’t just my first thruhike but my first backpacking trip, and I was ready to quit on Day one. But the amazing experiences (and the friends I made) kept me going. It changed my life and am saving to get out for more adventures soon!

Good job. I'm guessing you started in early or mid March. So, the early desert sections didn't burden you too much with extra water carries.
I'm watching some current hikers pushing through the shasta area. A full body mosquite net and a sun umbrella would definitely come in handy.
