So, a grand is a bit more expensive than i was expecting. I was expecting 6-700. I might still be willing to pay 1000 though. For that price i would like to see a commitment to providing user serviceability and the ability to buy parts when out of warranty issues arise. Please do not make them unrepairable and do not restrict the availability of replacement parts.
This may seem like an odd ask but i am sick of 1000 dollar plus items breaking 3 days outside of warranty and manufacturers going out of their way to restrict the availability of replacement parts #RightToRepair

Cheers to the wonderful progress!

    • @FreeaimVR
      @FreeaimVR  Před měsícem +1

Walking backwards isn't implemented yet, but it will be done before the consumer release.
For strafing, the shoes have rotating drive modules. You can take a few sidesteps and then when you walk forward the shoes will bring you back to the center. You can see that here: czcams.com/video/PoIr0Ba0zpQ/video.htmlsi=X1k5HMl2HkmWEfq1&t=172
So they don't do continuous strafing, but they can move you sideways after taking a few steps.
We're most likely going to have some gesture options too. For example, you can lift one heel while standing still to walk backwards, or put your foot out to the side at an angle to strafe.

Not long ago I needed some recovery that included "do not sit still" and "walk more", but in winter Sweden with icy streets and -20 C that would not be recommended to recover from something caused by "ice, street and darkness", so I can see a health benefit for those shoes before as a thing for games. Now I do not class VRChat, Resonite and Sansar as games, but just to have some worlds you can walk in had been better motivation than just walk in a circle at home or and a treadmill that often take up too much space. Like I would love to be able to walk a bit in a game like Myst or Riven or even Obduction.
So I am very excited when I see those shoes and hope more healthcare and rehabilitation look into them and that simple but practical balance frame.

Do you see a way this can be developed for running in the future? This is something even omni directional treadmills struggle with without the use of a harness, but curious as to whether this has been considered at all and how it might be implemented?

The VR shoes already last 1.5-2 hours minimum. That's about how long a Quest 3 lasts. Weight and the game influence how long they last. I weigh 170 pounds and they last 2 hours when I play games where I'm walking almost all the time, but for other games where I'm standing around a lot they last much longer. Plus the batteries are easy to swap.

can you run with it? or walk backwords?

This is the current max speed of the shoes: czcams.com/video/JAYVDkn9W5A/video.htmlsi=LgLs1PqoUyRk9Zvl&t=379
So they can go up to about a jog. For me this speed feels a lot faster in VR than it looks. We don't have walking backwards yet but that will be implemented before the consumer version is released.

$1k? that's ridiculous for the target audience. what a shame

Isn't that because the target audience isn't large that those product remain "expensive".
It's probably not even expensive regarding the cost in R&D it involve.

@lebluxtv yeah, in what market do you price an add-on to a product at twice the price of the product? That's really limiting your sales.
This needs to be at $300-$400 for mass adoption.
