    Barb Wire was a box office bomb but surprised you weren't familiar with it. I'm a bit younger than you so I was a young teenager in '96 and was well aware when it came out, though I didn't actually see it till probably sometime in my 20s. I own the Mill Creek blu, I did see the 4k come out but 30+ was a bit steep for me as the US blu I got for like $10, if released on 4k in the US I would pick it up for a bit more than 20. Solid and well made dystopian action film that's too easily dismissed by skeptics due to the lead being that busty Baywatch woman (Pamela, of course).

    This is A GREAT idea for a series Fuzz! I listen / watch all your content but I’ll be dialing in for ALL of these as I’m learning and loving many different boutique labels myself.
    Side note - Aura 3D has an interesting story. Allegedly it was far superior to Dolby Atmos and Dolby basically squashed them so they could maintain their platform here in the U.S. but over in Europe…most recognize Aura 3D and prefer it over Dolby Atmos mixes…

      Thanks so much my friend... It's awesome to hear you dig the series idea! I did not know that about Auro-3D. What a trip. So it sounds like maybe Auro-3D is more common in Europe. I've never noticed those mixes on anything other than Turbine releases, but I'm sure there are others who done them as well. You know high-end audio like that is not really my thing, so I fully admit my ignorance with that particular format.

      Thanks man! Yeah it's a killer box set. One of my favorite editions that I own for a single film. You can still get it in the alternate artwork variant, if you're having a change of heart. And yeah, this particular set is a bit pricier than other 4Ks they have, but given how hefty and substantive it is, I can understand the higher price point. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for watching man and weighing in! Really appreciate it. And yeah, that Renfield 4K is probably the way to go. We may eventually get a U.S. 4K release from Universal, but they can be pretty sketchy about releasing newer films on 4K in a timely manner. So as of right now, Turbine is the only company that has the film on 4K. And their steelbooks are nice too. Plus, they're a great company. Thanks Dwayne! I totally hear ya on the movies/titles being the most important thing. They are for me too. And that's another big reason I like the boutiques -- because we often get titles from the boutiques that we wouldn't otherwise get from the major studios. And many of the boutiques also offer standard editions for titles once the limited edition units have sold out. So I like having that additional option, for the instances in which we can't get certain titles from the major studios. Anyway, yeah that was really cool of Turbine to send out the review copies. By the way, I was just thinking about Back to the Future, and I was wondering if there's a good Back to the Future trilogy collection to buy on physical media? • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  Před měsícem +2

      Trust me my friend, you do not want to miss out on the 4K set of Back to the Future if you're a fan of those films. I get it about the cardboard slots, but it really is an absolutely stellar collection. The 4K restorations of those films look incredible, and they're the best those films are probably ever going to look. So here's what I did (because I feel the same way about that kind of disc storage): I just bought a blank/empty 4K case that holds three discs, and I put the 4K discs from my BTTF set in that case to protect them. I just keep the blu-rays inside the original packaging. It's the 4K discs I'm most concerned about. And then I keep that blank 4K case on the shelf next to my BTTF trilogy 4K box. Alternatively, you could just get like a 7-disc empty blu-ray case and store all the discs in that. I've done that with a couple of titles (BTTF, Fast and Furious box, my Phantasm box). It's not sexy, but it keeps the discs protected and allows you to enjoy to the titles without having to worry about the discs getting scratched.

    • @Shuxy
      @Shuxy Před měsícem +2

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Not a bad idea. It still irks me, but doing it that way protects the discs, and still has the case to display. I got the DVD version, and I got the digital 4k version, but I think I’ll have to get the physical one as per your recommendation and keep the discs in a separate case. • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  Před měsícem +1

      Great question! I've got several things to throw out in response. First, you may want to try playing around with the picture/image settings on your TV and/or 4K player (like brightness, contrast, etc.) and see if you can get the image more to your liking. More expensive players (like, say, a Panasonic UB820) may offer a little better picture quality, but it's really more about those players having more options for tweaking the image than entry-level players might have. The Panny UB820, for example, has an HDR Optimizer that can help make the image look the best it can on lower-end to mid-range TVs. A lower-end player may have fewer image manipulation attributes/options. The "experts" will tell you that you need to have your system professionally calibrated. I don't bother with that stuff personally... I have my own custom image settings that I prefer to use. And I do have two different profiles for those settings -- one for when I'm viewing 4K discs, and one for when I'm viewing blu-ray discs. When we're new to 4K, the image can seem a little darker and duller than what we're used to with blu-ray. So that's why I use different picture settings for watching 4K discs than I do blu-rays. I prefer to bump up the brightness, contrast, etc. a bit for 4K discs. Also you may want to explore different image modes on your TV and see what looks best to you (i.e. "filmmaker mode" vs. "standard" vs. "dynamic" or "vivid" (depending on the TV). To be completely honest, the "experts" would probably cringe at the settings I use, but they're the settings that make the 4Ks look best to my eyes. So that's what I roll with.
      All that said, keep in mind when we're new to 4K, it's my view that there can be a bit of an adjustment period in getting used to 4K images. It probably took me a good 9 months or more to start to fully appreciate everything 4K has to offer (like the high dynamic range and the wider, more accurate color gamut). It can take a little time for your eyes to adjust to the format. But I found the more 4K content I watched over time, the more it all started to "click" for me, and I started to see all the benefits of 4K (and notice what was lacking when I watched blu-rays). Overall, the 4K image typically has more depth to it, more pop in general. Colors can look incredible. But I didn't really see that as much when I first started watching 4K discs. So I felt essentially the same way as you do when I first started out with 4K. But with a few tweaks to the settings and a little time, I eventually really warmed up to the format in a big way.
      Also keep in mind not all 4K discs are created equal. It really just depends on the movie. Some 4Ks reveal a massive improvement and stunning picture, whereas other titles may only offer modest improvement. But overall, 4K tends to more accurately reproduce what was shown in theaters than blu-ray can. We've all gotten so used to the way blu-rays look, that we may not even be aware that some aspects of the image on blu-ray look really blown out and/or we get a lot of crushing (especially with dark scenes of a movie, where you can't make out any detail -- but with 4K, you can make out a lot more detail in darker areas of the image). Blu-rays typically do not accurately reflect what was shown in theaters, just due to the limitations of format. But 4K has HDR, which can tone down some of those extremes we would see on blu-ray and bring the movie closer to what the filmmakers intended (because we have more dynamic range and more accurate colors to work with). So the overall effect may be interpreted as a duller image at first. But if you make some picture setting tweaks to your TV and/or player, you should be able to get a result that's more to your liking.
      One last thing worth noting: The jump in quality from blu-ray to 4k is not nearly as big of a leap as it was when we went from DVD to blu-ray. The improvements in quality on 4K are a little more subtle than we got with the night/day difference between DVD and blu-ray.
      Anyway, I hope some of this helps a bit. But my advice overall... just play around with the picture settings until you get an image you like. Thanks for watching the channel and throwing this question out there! I think others reading may appreciate this as well.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Thanks a lot for the information I really do appreciate it! You seem to know the full extent of my question even before I knew what to ask so again thanks! I mean who doesn't love to tinker? LOL My future 4K selections will be based off of your Top Ten referenceable titles with my immediate choices of Dune and Dune 2--the timing of the physical media release is the reason for the 4K upgrade in the first place! I watched Dune today and the audio upgrade alone was like seeing it for the first time again. So thank you for your response and for your channel content ! I plan on going full tilt 86 inch 8K OLED on my TV before the end of the year LOL!

    I have Renfield 4k steelbook coming in today's mail. Also, the Men 4k steelbook. Is that Turbine?

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  Před měsícem

      I don't think Men is from Turbine. Where did you get them from? Like Diabolik or OrbitDVD or something? I know they often carry these kind of imports.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz It's not from Turbine. I think it's from Kino. I have credit if I use eBay so I bought that and Alex Garland's other two outstanding flicks. Plus Renfield 4k. And a bunch of blurays. Ones that I don't believe will be on 4k for awhile. Unless of course Turbine or Vinegar Syndrome surprises the crap out of me which they often do.

    Turbine needs to have a button or English options .. I gave up on creating an account there because I don’t read German. I buy from Diabolik instead. Maybe you can do a video on how to on Turbine ??

    • @TheOriginalFuzz

      I totally understand. I actually address this specifically in the video (skip to 49:42). There are a couple different ways you can change the site/pages to English, and I show you how to in this video. But they do have a button for English options.

      Thank you Fuzz … The Black Phone Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook was my favorite. I loved the movie and had to double dipped for BEST AVAILABLE QUALITY because Universal gave us a below average picture transfer.

      @@bluestaralltheway Great! You can also just click on the German flag in the upper right-hand corner of the website, select the UK flag, and it will change all the critical functions (menus, search, etc.) to English. You still have to use Google Translate to read the individual listing information though. So I go back and forth between changing the site to the UK version and using Google Translate on the German version to read the individual listing info.

    Dear god, are you Pamela Anderson’s ex-manager, trying to win her back? That’s probably the longest amount of time someone has pontificated while holding up a copy of that movie in the history of CZcams! 😂

      Lol -- It's all sincere, man. No ulterior motivations here... I don't say it unless I mean it. I loved Barb Wire. It was fun. And the steelbook artwork is sick!
