But, Haile Selassie's regime was returned to power with the help of the British & white South African army who liberated Addis Ababa & Ethiopia in May, 1941. [Ethiopian patriots did their best to resist the Italians but their role in liberating Ethiopia was merely of symbolic value]. After liberation, many of the slaves freed by the Italians were duly returned to their Ethiopian owners.
