- President of the Crown Council of Ethiopia, His Imperial Highness, Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie, was Jamaica's special guest for its Heritage Week celebration . The Prince, who is the grandson of the Emperor Haile Selassie, arrived in Jamaica for a week of official engagements which include the National Honours and Awards Ceremony at King's House and the National Heritage Week Interfaith Service. The Prince however visited the Rastafari community in Trench Town where he received a warm welcome from its member.

The Rastafarian Movement (RASTAFARI) is indeed a force to be reckoned with. But Rastafarians should never allow themselves to get too caught up in the cult of personalities. RASTAFARI is predicated on the Life and Teachings of His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Emperor Haile Selassie I but the Movement could easily be manipulated, hijacked, and subtly undermined by any number of forces if well-meaning Rastafarians do not remain on guard. The Makonnen dynasty does deserve to be highly respected but the movement could continue to grow in strength only if the focus is placed more on the MESSAGE rather than on the messenger or messengers. As HIM has taught, the aim of any man must be to become enlightened. And so, Rastafarians must resist the temptation to adopt the idolatrous beliefs of other institutions by attempting to elevate any human being to the level of being divine.
